Hector “H3CZ” Rodriguez has officially reacquired the OpTic Gaming brand after Immortals Gaming Club purchased the company in 2019. H3CZ has been tied to NRG Esports since OpTic’s sale, acting as the company’s co-CEO. OpTic Gaming has now been reunited with its former owner, taking over the Chicago Call of Duty League slot as well.

Rumors suggesting H3CZ would reacquire the OpTic Gaming brand surfaced earlier this month. The former Call of Duty competitor took over the organization in 2007, acting as CEO until parent company Infinite Esports and Entertainment was sold to Immortals Gaming Club in 2019. After the sale, H3CZ joined NRG Esports as co-CEO, acting for both the main organization and the Chicago Huntsmen Call of Duty League franchise.

H3CZ has now confirmed his return to OpTic Gaming, reacquiring the organization from Immortals Gaming Club. Alongside the organization itself, NRG’s Chicago Call of Duty League slot will be rebranded to take on the OpTic Gaming name. Starting in the 2021 CDL season, the Chicago Huntsmen will compete as OpTic Chicago.

“OpTic Gaming has always been a part of me, and I am glad that it has finally returned home to our fans,” H3CZ said in a release. OpTic has previously hosted teams across multiple esports titles, including CS:GO, Dota 2, and PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds. Along with its CDL slot, the organization owns Overwatch League franchise Houston Outlaws.

OpTic Gaming will return to the Call of Duty League as OpTic Chicago in 2021.
