The Hades fans who want to experience more of Zagreus' adventures could be out of luck, as the developers seemingly won't be working on new content for the game for a long time.

Hades started out as an Early Access title on PC in 2018. The game gradually received new content updates over the following two years, before it was announced during a Nintendo event that it was leaving Early Access and coming to the Switch that day. Hades has finally hit ver. 1.0 on both PC and Switch, which means that the story can finally be finished in the way that the developer originally envisioned.

Now that Hades has sold over a million copies, there is a question regarding the future of the game. The Greek mythology setting means there is a lot of room for DLC and expansions to the story of Hades. It seems that the developers are in no rush to beef up the content in Hades, however, based on a comment made by creative director Kasavin during a recent Reddit AMA. According to Kasavin, the team still needs to work on bug-fixes and take a much-needed break, before work can begin on anything else.

Right now, we're supporting the launch of Hades v1.0 and making sure everyone can get in and play. After each of our major updates, we've been on standby to fix any bugs we missed, fine-tune the latest changes, and make other small improvements based on feedback. We'll be in that mode probably for a number of weeks. Then once things settle down a bit, we're going to take a bit of a break as a team. We gave this game everything we've got, and know we need to recharge before immediately throwing ourselves into another intense long-term project (or whatever we decide to do). After that break is when we'll get our bearings and finally start planning what's next, hopefully with clear heads and a bit of hindsight and all that. Whatever comes of that planning might not be something we're ready to say anything about for some time, as we don't like to announce our plans until we have something we think is exciting to show. So, we really appreciate your patience on this.

Hades is a fantastic game and this is partly due to its incredible replayability. As a roguelike, the player is expected to keep failing and coming back a little stronger each time. The various systems in play in Hades mean that each run through the Underworld is a joy to play. The only problem is that players will eventually tire of facing the same group of mobs, and a steady stream of content updates or a sizable DLC pack could keep them invested.

Hades only launched a week ago and it's not surprising that the developers haven't announced the future plans for the series, especially as they're still trying to get cross-saves working. The world of Hades is ripe for more exploration, but it seems that we'll be waiting a long time before we return to Zagreus' side.
