Nostalgia is a powerful thing. It’s why there’s a Demon’s Souls remake on the PS5, why Activision just made a mint off of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1+2, and why so many games are numbered into the teens these days.

Half-Life has already had its remake in the form of Black Mesa, but some of us are busy adults that just don’t have the time to devote to another playthrough of Valve’s classic shooter. So instead, maybe give Half-Pint a try.

Half-Pint is actually not a mod unto itself, but a level for a larger Half-Life mod called TWHL Tower 2. Just like the original TWHL Tower mod, TWHL Tower 2 has players go from one end of a tower to another with each “floor” being made of a completely new level made by a community of Half-Life map makers.

You’ll find Half-Pint on Floor 18 of oTWHL Tower 2. Half-Pint proves that you don’t need to spend hours and hours of your life reliving the glory days to get that warm feeling of nostalgia. You can shoot your way through Half-Pint in about five minutes and relive all the important plot beats found in the original Half-Life.

You'll start in a lobby that feels just a teensy bit cramped, and then you'll get shoved into a resonance chamber that's little more than a closet where strange science is happening. Then it's off to the races as aliens from another dimension invade tiny Black Mesa. You murder aliens, dodge trash compactors, fight off an oversealous US Army, and eventually make your way to the portal that takes you to Xen.

Only you don't wake up in the final showdown of Half-Life. As the row of paintings shows, modder MrFloyd couldn't be bothered to include Xen, so he left it out. But still, everything else is there, including a teeny tiny railroad ride.

You can grab TWHL Tower 2 over here, but just keep in mind you need to have the original Half-Life installed to get it to work.
