Gaming has seen many great marketing strategies. However, one of the best marketing strategies of the new millennium was easily the Halo 3-branded Mountain Dew that convinced many gamers and Halo fans of the tastiness of Mountain Dew. To this day, the nostalgic red variant of Mountain remains special.

Halo 3 Mountain Dew Game Fuel's concept was fairly simple. It was a soda aimed at gamers to advertise both it and the game to end all games (at the time), Halo 3.

The drink had a specific cherry-esque flavor that made it oh-so-delicious. Of course, the wow factor of Halo 3's release probably enhanced the flavor, but the variant of Mountain Dew was a very appealing one. Halo 3 Mountain Dew Game Fuel trumps the taste of the original Mountain Dew in the eyes of many.

While the soda itself advertised Halo 3 on its bottles, with Master Chief gracing their labels, there was also a bevy of related advertisements. One from August of 2007 can be seen below.

As may be familiar to many players of Halo's multiplayer, many gamers throughout the above ad show comical frustration at their failures in-game. However, one player who consumes Halo 3 Mountain Dew Game Fuel keeps his cool as he bests the competition. Ads like this, and the way they targeted gamers specifically, partially led to the stereotype that Mountain Dew is a staple of hardcore gamers' diets.

The same soda recipe would later be used for games like Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3, and maintained its generally superior flavor. This is in the same way that many prefer cherry or vanilla coke to old-fashioned Coca-Cola. However, one major factor of Mountain Dew Game Fuel's success was the upcoming release of Halo 3, which would be one of the Xbox 360's greatest hits and one of 2007's highlights, alongside the likes of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare, Super Mario Galaxy, BioShock, and the first Assassin's Creed.
