You know you’ve done well by a series when fans have started making fiction around it. Halo is no stranger to this, the series has been adapted into novels and comics over the years. However, one fan has decided to create a live action movie set within the Halo universe, and the teaser trailer is quite impressive.

Film student Gareth Reeve has been working on Long Way Home, a story set in the Halo universe, about a lone trooper finding themselves stranded on Delta Halo after a failed drop from orbit. The 35 second teaser shows the trooper waking up next to the drop pod to find themselves separated from the rest of the squad. After picking up a pair of dog tags, the trooper sets off to find their squad; but it seems that they’re not alone.

As spotted by GameRant, the teaser is pretty faithful to Halo lore too. The ODST suit is spot on and the curvature of Delta Halo can be seen in the background as well.

The Halo novels have played a big role in building up the universe and expanding on the Master Chief legend. The books give us a look at the origins of John 117; he apparently reached peak Olympic level physique at age 14, could run at a speed of 35 miles an hour, lift three times his body weight and see in the dark without any technological help. He once also beat four Helljumper ODSTs with relative ease during his Spartan training.

We’re not sure when we’ll be able to see the full Long Way Home film, but if the teaser is anything to go by, it might be an enjoyable watch for fans.

Big budget video game movies haven’t always given us what we want, just look at Prince of Persia and Assassin’s Creed. Let’s not get started on Tom Holland’s Uncharted movie playing musical chairs with its directors. The once planned Mass Effect movie also had its own set of problems. “It felt like we were always fighting the IP," said Mass Effect dev Mac Walters. "What story are we going to tell in 90 to 120 minutes? Are we going to do it justice?"
