Halo Infinite’s delay was a severe blow to Microsoft’s next-gen launch catalogue. The sixth main entry of the iconic FPS was delayed until 2021, amid reports of drastic changes in its development team. 343 Industries has been radio silent with fans for the most part, but that might be about to change.

According to 343 Industries’ community manager John 'Unyshek' Junyszek, the developer aims to keep fans in the loop going forward. Penning a recent blog post, Junyszek admitted that the team has been "quiet longer than we'd like". Emphasis was put on the parts that came unhinged after Halo Infinite’s delay, regarding Halo Gear, brand partnerships, and other pockets of industry. After the game’s surprising setback, 343 spent the next few months recalibrating, and as a result, the Halo community felt left in the dark.

While the team’s dedication to march forward is admirable, the fans want to be a part of the resurgence. Junyszek confirmed “We hear you” after empathizing with the community’s hunger for updates. He conveyed the team’s excitement to share Halo Infinite’s “rich story and characters”, but ultimately, we were told to wait and save our enthusiasm for “when it’s ready”. Describing 343’s readjustment phase as a “hectic time”, Junyszek did offer fans a behind-the-scenes look at the field recordings used to give life to Halo Infinite's weapons. He also included a piece of artwork showcasing a portrait of Rookie from Halo 3: ODST.

Highlighting the team’s desire to “show rather than tell”, attention will now turn to the holiday season where Junyszek will disclose 343’s "end of year" community update on December 17. Confirming the developer’s plan to “be more communicative in the coming months”, Junyszek thought that 343 would end this year “on a pretty strong note”. The manager’s closing statement has suggested a departing surprise as we leave 2020 to history. Perhaps the Halo community will be able to mark Infinite’s new release date on the calendar before the year is out.

Community Director at 343 Industries Brian Jarrard swatted rumors of Halo Infinite’s delay to 2022 back in September. He confirmed that all of the rumored dates were purely speculative, and stated that nothing was planned. One month prior, Cinematic director Joseph Staten - who worked on the original Halo Trilogy - joined the Halo Infinite team to help shape the campaign, and get development back on track.
