Some might consider it the worst kept secret in games or a pleasant surprise. Regardless of how you label it, Microsoft Xbox shadow launched the Halo Infinite multiplayer beta early ahead of its December 8, 2021 date as a gift for the console’s 20 years of existence.

While the multiplayer beta is still missing a few maps and game modes, Halo multiplayer is officially back in a big way. One of the biggest features of Halo multiplayer is the vehicles. Whether you’re taking part in Big Team Battle or simply find yourself on a large map, operating vehicles has remained a staple throughout the series. Halo Infinite introduces a few new vehicles but also brings back a slew of fan favorites. You’re in luck if you find yourself behind the wheel of these sweet rides in Halo Infinite.

Updated May 14, 2022, by Avery Lawrence Feyrer: The second season of Halo Infinite's multiplayer has finally launched with a slew of new game modes and content for players. But one factor in winning multiplayer games remains consistent: vehicles. Operating vehicles throughout a match can be the key to victory, so we've added a couple more entries to highlight the best vehicles in Halo Infinite.

12 M290 Mongoose

halo infinite mongoose

First introduced in Halo 3, the Mongoose is a smaller vehicle that's good for quick getaways. Unlike the larger Warthog, the Mongoose does not have any weapons attached to the vehicle, only a back seat for one other Spartan.

The Mongoose is strictly utilized for fast traveling across maps, especially in Capture the Flag. Even if you have an ally Spartan on the back seat, firing toward enemies is extremely inaccurate unless they have a rocket launcher.

11 Razorback

halo infinite razorback

When you jump into Halo Infinite multiplayer, you’ll find one of the newly added vehicles looks similar to an old classic. The Razorback is essentially a more beefed-up, defensive vehicle compared to the Warthog.

Because of the extra layers of armor around the vehicle, the Razorback can withstand a considerable amount of damage before becoming inoperable. The downside of rolling around in the Razorback is its lack of any offensive firepower. There isn’t a stationary gun attached to the Razorback, so other than the weapons your passengers have equipped, there won’t be much shooting in the Razorback.

10 Turrets

halo turret

Ok, so turrets might not necessarily constitute a "vehicle" per se, but we're allowed to bend the rules a bit. While some vehicles like Wraiths, Scorpions, Warthogs, and Gungooses (Gungeese?) have turrets stationed on them, there are other stationary turrets scattered throughout some maps that will prove advantageous if controlled.

Two main turrets are usually included in various multiplayer maps: human and Covenant. The UNSC turrets operate as standard machine gun turrets that can quickly dwindle an enemy's health, while the Covenant turrets fire plasma projectiles. The benefit of stationary turrets compared to turrets placed on vehicles is using your super Spartan strength to rip them from the grounds. Turrets have unlimited ammo when they're stationary, but will have a limited clip when ripped from their station.

9 M290-M Gungoose

halo infinite gungoose

Also appearing in Halo 2: Anniversary and Halo 5: Guardians, the Gungoose makes its triumphant return in Halo Infinite. This offensive-focused variant of the Mongoose sports a machine gun to go along with its superior evasiveness compared to other vehicles in the game.

In maps like Fragmentation and Behemoth, the Gungoose is extremely useful in not only getting around the large map but also because of the open terrain, it’s highly effective offensively. The Gungoose doesn’t share the dependency for success that the Mongoose has with its lack of firepower.

8 M12 Warthog

halo infinite warthog

It’s not Halo unless Spartans are rolling around in Warthogs. Luckily, the classic army vehicle is back once again in Halo Infinite. Halo’s flagship vehicle is equipped with a stationary M247 heavy machine gun for high offensive potency, and can also carry another Spartan in the passenger seat.

The Warthog is extremely effective in Capture the Flag on larger maps. The flag carrier can hop in the passenger seat, while another teammate provides cover fire from the machine gun. Halo’s iconic vehicle has become so popular that people have even wished for a real-life version of it.

7 M12R Rockethog

What could be better than a machine gun? Maybe...a rocket launcher? The M12R Rockethog is exactly what you’d imagine if you swapped the machine gun on the Warthog with a more chaotic replacement.

The Rockethog made its first appearance in Halo: Reach and has remained a constant inclusion ever since. This vehicle variant gives you a heavier offensive output with rockets instead of bullets, but the lack of fire rate could prove costly. Other than the difference in firepower, the Rockethog is virtually the same as the Warthog.

6 Brute Chopper

Since making its debut in Halo 3, the Brute Chopper hasn’t seen much love in the main Halo series. Most notably, the Brute Chopper appeared in Halo Wars and Halo 3: ODST, but didn’t show up in Halo 4 or 5.

The Covenant ground vehicle makes its return in Halo Infinite, this time being a primary vehicle of transport for the Banished. Sitting only one person, the Brute Chopper is equipped with side cannons and booster thrusters for increased speed. Brute Chopper drivers are mainly safe from enemy fire from the front of the vehicle but are mostly unprotected if shot from the side or rear.

5 AV-49 Wasp

halo infinite wasp

It’s a bit surprising that the only aerial vehicle in the Halo series was the Covenant Banshee until Halo 5 introduced the AV-49 Wasp. This flying machine was developed by the United Nations Space Command which operated similarly to its Covenant counterpart.

The Wasp comes heavily equipped with a machine gun and a rocket launcher. Having the ability to switch between the two different types of firepower expands the offensive capabilities of the aircraft, making it a solid ally or a formidable foe.

4 Wraith

halo infinite wraith

The Covenant's answer to the UNSC's Scorpion, the Wraith packs a heavy punch. This massive tank is fully equipped with a heavy plasma cannon that can melt enemies in an instant and a plasma turret for quick suppression fire. Typically, Wraiths have a blueish hue to their armor, though many Wraiths in Halo Infinite with have the red coating that's affiliated with the Banished. The heavy plasma cannon can be a bit difficult to control, as the large globs of plasma have an overarching trajectory, so having a precise aim is a must. Although the plasma cannon deals heavy damage, the projectile moves slow enough for opposing forces to evade, especially if fired upon from a long distance.

The main advantage to operating a Wraith is its near-indestructible exterior. A Wraith's armor can withstand considerable fire from small weaponry, allowing it to blaze a path forward for its allied infantry units. However, the downside to Wraiths is their mobility; the giant Covenant tank is extremely slow and difficult to quickly maneuver, so if enemy forces can trap a Wraith, it might be game over soon after. The tank does have a speed boost, but again, it's difficult to change direction when operating the Covenant vehicle.

3 Banshee

halo banshee

One of the oldest vehicles in the Halo series, the Banshee is the Covenant’s pride and joy in ruling the skies. This aircraft is fitted with the latest plasma technology, featuring two Plasma Cannons and one major plasma bomb.

The Plasma Cannons are similar to the standard-issue Plasma Rifles that the Covenant foot soldiers use and the secondary plasma bomb is compared to the power of the Fuel Rod Gun. Typically, a one-shot from the Plasma Cannons will instantly kill opposing infantry, while only two or three plasma bombs will completely wreck an enemy Scorpion tank.

2 M808 Scorpion

halo infinite scorpion

Why isn’t the most powerful vehicle in Halo Infinite the best in the game? Because power isn’t everything. Yes, the Scorpion tank is a rolling heap of destructive metal that will obliterate anyone and anything in its path. But its overall lack of fluid mobility causes some frustration for Spartans.

Although the Scorpion has its fair share of mobility issues, the tank is an absolute beast and will bulldoze over most objects in front of it. The tank is fitted with two weapons: a high-velocity machine gun and a high-powered cannon. By utilizing both forms of firepower, the Scorpion tank has the capabilities to take down nearly any adversary, no matter if they’re on foot or in another vehicle.

1 Ghost

halo infinite ghost

Surprisingly, the best vehicle in Halo Infinite isn’t human-made. The classic Covenant Ghost returns and nothing screams Halo like the hovering purple transport that’s equipped with high-powered energy cannons. The Ghost separates itself from the other vehicles in the game with its combination of offensive firepower and quick mobility on the map.

As is the case with all vehicles, there’s the off chance that you can get hijacked. The advantage the Ghost has over other vehicles is its ability to thrust forward in speed quickly, most likely causing fatal damage to an opponent. The Ghost isn’t the most powerful vehicle in Halo Infinite, but it does a lot of things very well, which makes it the overall best vehicle to command in the game.
