One of the great things about Halo Infinite’s Multiplayer is the maps. Each map looks and feels meticulously designed, and the level of polish from 343 Industries is abundantly clear. There are three different sizes of maps in Halo Infinite: small, medium, and large. They take place in a wide variety of locations, times, and terrains.

This list will rank every map released by 343 Industries according to their fun factor. Since each map has its own set of strengths and weaknesses, the only fair way to stack these maps up is by how well they can generate the most fun Halo moments.

Updated March 21, 2023 by Amanda Hurych: Echoes Within, Halo Infinite's third season, has given us three fantastic new maps, so we've updated this list to include them all. We have the small but highly vertical Chasm, we have the sniper-friendly Cliffhanger, and we have the absolute star of the show, Oasis. If you've been thinking about dipping back into Halo Infinite, these three maps are a good reason to revisit the multiplayer scene, even if it's just for a short while.

15 Launch Site

Launch Site in Halo Infinite

Launch Site takes place in a long corridor inside a rocket silo. The center of this map is an open dogleg road that directly ties the opposing sides together. Each end offers plenty of spots for teams to defend themselves, but the space in between them will leave you exposed.

Fortunately, you can take one of the few side routes where you can sneak towards the other side. These passages will give you good sniping positions and introduce opportunities for short-range firefights. This map features everything you might want from it. At the same time, it's arguably a case of following the map-making rule book a bit too rigorously. As a result, despite the game's polished visuals, there's an overriding sense that Launch Site is... we don't want to say generic, but... generic.

14 Deadlock

Deadlock in Halo Infinite

Deadlock is a massive open concept map designed for Big Team Battles. On the one hand, the scale is wild. On the other hand, several distinct paths from north to south — including cavernous tunnels on either perimeter — lend it the feeling of a large pillbox.

This map is far from bad, but marrying its size to such somewhat linear layout (we say somewhat because, technically, you can choose the high ground between paths - at your peril) can often make objective-based games like Capture the Flag a tad tedious. Running down a long and linear path doesn't offer much by way of excitement.

13 Cliffhanger

Cliffhanger was introduced to us during Halo Infinite's third season, and it is a welcome addition. It's a sprawling map that is large enough for players to have a lot of space, but sadly not vehicle friendly. It makes for a great location for Capture The Flag if you're willing to hoof it instead of taking a nice Warthog ride.

A lift that can shoot your Spartan to a more remote section of the map (called Sanctuary) gives you a sense of mobility that might not otherwise be there. It's definitely the sort of map where you want to nab a long-range weapon of some sort and find some high ground to pick off opponents from a distance. If that's your thing.

12 Bazaar

Bazaar in Halo Infinite

Bazaar is a testament to small-sized Halo maps and why they are a perfect fit for the series' trademark gameplay. These maps reward quick movement, clever thinking, and perfect reaction timing. This one will make getting right back into the action take you mere seconds, and you'll be constantly engaged.

That's not to say it's too small. Or rather, its small size is supplemented by enough doors, corners, and outdoor spans to make running and gunning just one possible approach. Ambushes are frequent, and typically brutally short affairs. Check Bazaar for Slayer and similar fare.

11 Highpower

Highpower in Halo Infinite

Highpower is an enormous map done right because it directs the combat into a central area. So, while the map is massive, you will probably run into more fun combat situations.

Moreover, the various paths and verticality create loads of opportunities for clever fighting tactics. There is no shortage of epic sniping hideouts and tight combat zones for you to explore, whilst at the same time, it taps into the strengths inherent to Big Team Battle. That epic sense of scale is on full display here.

10 Streets

Streets in Halo Infinite

The Streets map has one of the best themes in Halo Infinite. It is not too often that we get to see city environments in the Halo franchise, so when we do get them, we have to hope they'll stand out in all the right ways. Centered around a city square, with open buildings to navigate (and snipe from!) in every direction, it's a focused affair with lovely neon lights to color our, uh, murder sprees?

9 Fragmentation

Fragmentation in Halo Infinite

Fragmentation is like Highpower's younger sibling and is more streamlined than the rest of the large maps. As a result, combat encounters are typically more intense and wide in scope. Plus, the increased verticality of this map keeps the combat compelling and opens up exciting strategies.

Fragmentation is the best map for epic team-sized confrontations and bombastic combat scenarios. The map design perfectly creates these moments of controlled chaos. If it weren't for a certain post-launch addition, we'd go so far as to label it the best Big Team map in Halo Infinite's arsenal.

8 Live Fire

Live Fire in Halo Infinite

If you are looking for an excellent Slayer map that features both indoor and outdoor combat zones, then Live Fire is for you. It's the perfect size map for close-encounter combat scenarios. The main building sports multiple levels, but rather than doors and elevators, players climb and descend its heights through slowly rising corridors.

The result? The kind of 'watch your six and your twelve, and by goodness, don't look down' that classic entries like Halo 2 made so famous all those years ago.

7 Behemoth

Behemoth in Halo Infinite

Before we begin with this one, we can't help but love its name. Behemoth shares its title with one of Halo 3's most wonderful vehicles, which was given a sandy color scheme as befitted its areas of deployment. We can't imagine this map isn't named in its honor, as its exterior is filled with desert sand.

But how does it play? Quite well, we'd say. A large Forerunner structure covers the majority of Behemoth's area, with lift-supported levels and numerous deadly outcrops. But those of us who stick to the outer edges, where the desert's beneath our boots, can attempt to keep a close eye on everything indoors — or wreak havoc with Behemoth's multiple vehicular options.

6 Catalyst

Halo Infinite Catalyst Map

There's something to be said for how slowly 343 Industries has been rolling out its updates. We know. We get the frustration. All the more reason to hope that, when new content does drop, it's of a higher caliber. Catalyst makes the cut. Not only does it do the excellent Forerunner aesthetic justice, but the inclusion of that long midway ramp with a highly desirable weapon spawn at the center adds a few quicker heartbeats to the experience.

Further narrow bridges connect to heavily contested spots in team-based gameplay, while solo fare like Slayer will see you darting to and fro or lingering just around a corner, waiting for unsuspecting prey.

5 Aquarius

Aquarius in Halo Infinite

Aquarius calls back to classic old-school-level design. This indoor map features open rooms for more explosive encounters and tight corridors that test your reaction time and quick thinking. The intensity of these encounters ensures that there will never be a dull moment and keeps the action going.

Again, the art direction of Halo infinite shines through in Aquarius. A lesser representation might eschew the beautiful glass, the lush vegetation within wide-reaching, aquarium-like tanks, and the vibrant colors of the walls themselves for something more muted and staid.

4 Recharge

Recharge in Halo Infinite

Recharge features not one, not two, but three (OK, maybe two-and-a-half) floors of vicious Halo gunfights. Every twist and turn, on every level, is designed to send players toward inevitable clashes not just quickly, but with the chance for a calculated assault. Plus, there's the outer rim; if you're not careful, someone's bound to punch you straight off the ledge. Fun.

On top of that, the smaller scale incentivizes near-constant exploration and movement. Recharge is the best map for Slayer and Strongholds. There is a sense of energy (no pun intended) that Recharge continues in Halo’s legacy as one of the best multiplayer game series.

3 Chasm

Who doesn't love a small map with a lot of verticality? Looking at Chasm before playing on it might make you think it's a nightmare of hidden nooks and crannies and lethal drops, but it's the sort of map that encourages smart thinking and layout awareness. Several well-placed throwables also add to the fun as you can chuck them at enemy players from on high.

This map clearly took inspiration from the section of Halo Infinite's campaign right before you first meet the Weapon. It's a lot of fun, especially if you stay in communication with your team. Also, highly recommend you try your best to acquire a grappleshot. It'll make reaching those top pillars easier.

2 Breaker

It's a good sign for a game's longevity when a long-awaited map selection update delivers the best one to-date. Breaker is everything Halo Infinite does right. From the captivating atmosphere of a fallen vessel in a shipbreaking yard, to the deadly tunnel and its teleportation off-ramp, to the thrill of driving a Mako over a ramp and praying you evade the dual twirling lava cannons (!), it's not just the finest fit for Big Team Battle. It's downright brilliant.

There's nothing quite like delivering the enemy's flag across the lava lake and the plethora of places they'll aim to snipe you out of the running. Better yet, enjoy the scenery when your rivals capture your flag in a well-timed vehicular getaway... only to get melted to slag because they failed to cross that gap in timely fashion.

1 Oasis

Overhead view of Halo Infinite multiplayer match on Oasis map

By far the jewel of the maps introduced in Halo Infinite's third season, Echoes Within, Oasis is an utter Big Team Battle joy. You know how much we love our vehicle-heavy maps. Oasis includes room for tanks, Warthogs, Ghosts, and even Wasps. There are two bases on either side of the map, and in between is a long stretch of open road with curves, jutting outcrops and a gravity lift into a larger building.

Which brings us to the second reason Oasis is so phenomenal in terms of layout. Not only does it function as a great vehicle map, the inclusion of an indoor fighting space is perfection. The interior of the facility gives you plenty of opportunities for tight corridor play that can work alongside the vehicle storm that might be raging outside. So no matter what multiplayer mood you're feeling, Oasis has got you covered.
