343 has revealed that Champion rank is in the works for Halo Infinite.

Although Halo 5 is arguably the black sheep of the franchise, one of the positive additions it made to the series is the introduction of Champion rank. Champion was a rank above Onyx and showed that a player was one of the top 200 in the division. Despite it appearing in Guardians, Champion rank currently isn't a part of Infinite, although 343 has revealed that is soon to change.

343 revealed the news in a new blog post on the Halo Waypoint site, focused on detailing how ranked play works. Although most of the blog post is simply explaining some of the terminology used in the mode and how things like ranked rewards work, the last section has 343 answering some popular questions from the community.

One such question is whether Infinite will see the return of Champion rank, to which 343 said, "We hear this feedback loud and clear, and we’ll be adding it in a future season down the road. Similar to the reconnect feature above, we still need to scope out the work for this before we can commit to any timing". Similarly to a lot of content coming to Halo Infinite, there's currently no roadmap or release window for the feature.

343 also responded to concerns from the community that there are too many Diamond and Onyx rank players in the game currently, to which it said, "Earlier this year we confirmed that ranks were on average somewhat higher than expected, as discussed in our previous blog post. But our recent updates to ranked matchmaking, and the accompanying rank reset on Feb 22, should have helped to adjust the distribution."

Finally, 343 also went into detail on something we can all relate to - not levelling up much within a match, "If you’re not going up much after a win it could be because you didn’t perform well in that match, your individual skill was higher than your opponents, or your CSR is currently over-ranked and the system is correcting itself."
