The Halo TV show looks like it’s finally about to go into production, and now we know who will play the series’ biggest hero, Master Chief.
Pablo Schreiber is an actor you may recognize from various projects over the years. His breakout role was as Nick Sobotka on the beloved HBO series, The Wire. Since then, he’s played roles in movies like First Man and Skyscraper, as well as starring roles in shows like Weeds, American Gods, and perhaps most notably, as George “Pornstache” Mendez on Orange Is The New Black.
The Halo TV show has been bouncing around in pre-production for quite some time now. Originally envisioned as a show for Xbox One’s dead on arrival Xbox Entertainment Studios venture, it was later picked up by Showtime. The show will be helmed by Kyle Killan (Mind Games, Awake) and Steven Kane (The Closer, The Last Ship), and will be produced by Steven Spielberg’s Amblin Entertainment studio.
Microsoft and 343 Industries will also be on board, likely working in an advisory role and making sure the series feels like Halo, so you can expect the suits to be the right color, the pistol to be overpowered, the warthogs to be easy to flip over, and other details specific to Halo.
We only have a little information about the show itself right now. It will be an original story that takes place in the same universe as the video game, and the 26th-century war between humanity and the Covenant will play a big part in the plot. Dr. Halsey, the unethical scientist at the front of the Spartan program, will also play a role of some kind in the show.
Also, Australian actress Yerin Ha is said to be playing a “shrewd, audacious 16-year-old from the Outer Colonies who meets Master Chief at a fateful time for them both.” So, it sounds like Master Chief might be getting himself a new plucky sidekick.
There’s no release date for the Halo show, but it will probably be coming out sometime around the release of the upcoming Halo: Infinite. Hopefully, when the show finally debuts, Pablo Schreiber will be able to tap into the same well of emotion and personality as the Master Chief we all know and love.
