Early last month, 343 released a patch that was supposed to address Halo Infinite's bizarre issue surrounding melee. The patch reduced melee damage overall, made the Mangler a two-shot kill in multiplayer, substantially increased the number of melee trades by changing some obscure coding, and also instituted a fix that would alleviate some "awkward melee encounters."

Unfortunately, it seems like that last fix didn't quite take. In a recent Reddit post, a Halo Infinite player provided two examples of Halo Infinite desyncing, with the second example the most egregious. The original poster comes across an enemy player who seems to simply disappear, only to then reappear right beside them with the butt of their battle rifle already halfway through the player's face.

Such unfair encounters are why players agree that there are remaining collision issues in Halo Infinite, and developer 343 Industries knows it too. Replying in the comments, senior sandbox designer Brian Berryhill, aka 343_Taxi (thanks, VGC!), said that it’s something 343 knows about but just doesn’t have the resources to deal with fully at the moment.

"The TLDR of it is the devs that would work on these fixes have been allocated to other Infinite work," wrote Berryhill. "Their work has had some knock-on benefit to our UCN solution, especially around movers (players, vehicles, etc.) on object devices (elevators, pistons, bridges etc.), but not around the melee and "around the wall" shots. These devs are coming home to Sandbox soon (hopefully)."

Despite the reassigned team members, Berryhill confirmed that fixing player collision "is high on our priority of fixes." He also confirmed that videos like the one posted to Reddit "always get pulled into bug/task threads for UCN (networking) improvements." Hopefully this is an issue that gets more attention in the coming weeks.

In other Halo Infinite news, Forge mode might be just around the corner. Recent leaks showcase the current state of Forge mode, with players being able to swap weapon models and properties thanks to weapon scripting. Co-op is also on the way, but the closest we've seen to getting it in action has been this mod.
