An update to the Steam website reveals that the software giant is breaking into the console market, with the release of the Steam Deck. This handheld console will allow users to play their Steam library on the go.

The Steam Deck can optionally come alongside a dock, which much like the Switch, will allow users to hook up to the TV and play on the big screen.

It will retail for $399, and launches December 2021. For anyone interested, there will be an additional fee for reserving a Steam Deck for yourself - it sounds like Valve is planning for them to sell out fast.

From the little that Valve has said so far, the Steam Deck looks poised to push portable gaming further than where it is right now, predominantly with the Switch. According to the announcement, have "more than enough" power to run the latest triple-A games.

Reservations go live tomorrow, 10AM PDT. From what we can see on the website, the dock will launch at a later date. This will only apply to customers living in the United States, Canada, United Kingdom, and European Union. Information on other regions is said to be coming soon.

While Steam Decks are sold under the reservation system, only one will be available per customer. You will also need a Steam account that has made a purchase prior to June 2021 if you want to reserve one in the first 48-hours.
