The Hangzhou Spark are one of the best teams in the league. They are the fourth seed going into the playoffs and have won their last four games. It wasn't always good news for the Spark, though. They struggled at the beginning of the season and the beginning of stage four, but despite their setbacks, the Spark are in prime position going into the playoffs. Can they keep their momentum going and make a run toward the Overwatch League Grand Finals?

The Spark ended their regular season winning their last four matches. They beat the Shanghai Dragons (defending stage 3 champions) 4-0 on the last day of the regular season. Hangzhou struggled in the beginning of stage 4, though. They went 0-3 and looked completely out of sync and confused with the introduction of the 2-2-2 role lock. Their MVP candidate - Guxue - was struggling a bit to get used to playing in a predominantly Orisa based meta and the top 6 were slipping through their fingers. A run in the playoffs seemed all but impossible.

Fortunately, the Hangzhou Spark were able to figure out what was holding them back. Guxue slowly worked his way back to MVP form and is looking strong going into the playoffs. His Orisa play has been consistently great in the second half of stage 4 and he will need to perform to his typical level if the Spark want to make it deep into the playoffs.

The 2-2-2 role lock is prime for a DPS player to pop off. If you have great damage dealers, you have the potential to be a solid team. Thankfully, Hangzhou's DPS players are starting to pick up the pace. Godsb is looking like one of the best Widowmakers and overall damage dealers in the league at the moment. He even became the first Overwatch League player to kill two Widowmakers at once. Check it out for yourself in the tweet below. All joking aside, that flick onto Diem was insane and if Godsb can keep up his incredible DPS play, the Spark are a dangerous team.

The Hangzhou Spark have the potential to be one of the best teams in the league. They have shown it time and time again. Their biggest weakness is they are slow to adapt to the meta. In the beginning of the season they struggled with the GOATS meta and went 3-4 in stage one. In stage two they went 5-2 and in stage 3 they went 6-1. Like the beginning of the season, 2-2-2 role lock in stage four proved challenging for the Spark, but they figured it out. The playoffs will introduce Sigma into the lineup and it looks like the meta will change once again. The Spark will need to adapt quickly if they have a shot. If they do, Hangzhou is a force to be reckoned with and will carry their end of season momentum deep into the post-season as they make a run towards the Grand Finals.

The Hangzhou Spark will play the Los Angeles Gladiators on Thursday, September 5th at 7:00 PM PST.
