As you increase your rank in Hardspace: Shipbreaker, you will have to deal with an increasing variety of hazards during your shifts. From hazard level three and up, you will encounter electrical hazards. Certain parts of the ship will hold an electrical charge, which can spark and jump to nearby objects when removed.

Sparking electrical equipment can cause damage to salvage objects and your suit, so it's best to avoid them. Let's take a look at each form an electrical hazard can come in, and how to avoid and deal with them.

How To Deal With Electrical Hazards

The simplest form you can encounter an electrical hazard is through computer terminals, lights, and other powered objects. These salvage objects will always have a charge in them, regardless of if you've removed the power cell or power generator. When detaching a computer terminal from the ship, electricity will arc off of it slightly, and in some cases can damage nearby objects.

To avoid this, stay a safe distance away from the terminal while detaching it. Computer terminals and similar objects will only discharge electricity while they are being detached, and are safe once they've been removed from the ship. Computer terminals have a fair amount of electricity in them, while smaller objects like lights or door consoles only have a small amount, making them much less dangerous.

For higher power objects like power cells and power generators, you'll need to be a bit more careful. Power cells can be removed similarly to computer terminals, but they will retain their charge even after being detached. Because of this, you'll want to handle them carefully when removing and storing them in the barge, as bumping them into other objects can cause the power cell to spark, damaging nearby components with electricity.

To safely remove a power generator, you will first need to remove the three fuses found around the ship. Once you've done that, the generator will be safe to detach. Like power cells, you'll want to be careful when removing it from the ship, as bumping it into other objects can damage both components.

If electrical hazards are giving you trouble, you can upgrade your work suit to increase your resistance to electrical discharges, up to 75 percent. While this won't protect salvage components from being damaged by electricity, it will keep you a bit safer in cases of accidental discharge.
