Although many of these Hogwarts Mystery cheats aren't "cheats" in the traditional sense, they're still incredibly useful for new players and veterans alike.

17 Keep An Eye On Your Level & Experience Bar

Hogwarts Mystery Harry Potter Progress Bar Level Up
  • Expend as much energy as possible before leveling up to maximize rewards.

Like many mobile games, Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery makes use of an "energy system" that is tied into the core gameplay. There are a lot of interesting mechanics to be found sprinkled throughout the Hogwarts adventure and many (if not most) of them require players to expend valuable energy. When a gamer runs out of energy, they'll be forced to "get more" before they can progress.

Energy can be purchased, snagged as a reward from certain quests and activities (although many do not recommend this, as other rewards are much more valuable), or repaired naturally via timed replenishment. By simply waiting, the energy ball will refill over time, which is the cheapest and best option for most. However, those that are paying attention to their experience bar can completely refill their energy meter should they level up. This can be a great way to expend a ton of energy to get rewards, while simultaneously leveling up to refill the meter.

It's important to note that the process gets harder as players grind through levels but it's very useful to "know when a character is going to level up" in the earlier parts of the adventure.

16 Always Grab Gems As Rewards

Harry Potter Hogwarts Mystery Choose Reward Gems
  • Always take free gems when offered.

They're the most useful and rare resource. Hogwarts Mystery rewards diligent students. Completing quests and gaining access to bonus stars will usually reward players with an opportunity to pick from a hoard of gems, coins, attribute points, or energy. Unfortunately, as much as the best students may deserve them, only one gift can be accepted per offering.

Energy-hungry players may immediately cling to the idea of banking the valuable resource to immediately complete tasks and quests but the star of the show will always be gems. This bright-colored currency can only be refilled by spending real money on the title and can be used for a variety of things to help players progress. Energy will refill over time and attributes and coins can be ground out. It's highly recommended that whenever players have an opportunity to receive free gems, they take them.

15 Utilize The Notification System

  • Use phone notifications to keep track of energy, quests, and timed events.

If you don't mind having notifications pop up on your phone screen then it would be a good idea for you to allow Hogwarts Mystery to send you notifications. You'll spend a lot of time waiting for your energy to replenish unless you're willing to shell out a lot of cash.

If you want to ensure you're prepared the moment the time limit is complete, then it is a good idea to allow notifications so you don't miss out on something important.

14 Tap On Items For Energy

  • Tap items and house elves every six hours.

According to Prima Games, there are a lot of items strewn about in the game that you can tap to earn a little extra energy. One of the biggest frustrations for players is the fact you have to wait so long for your energy to replenish, or else pay real money to speed up the process.

If you tap on the house elves you see around, you'll get some energy! Other things you can tap is the first blank portrait in the East Towers, books near the Bench on the Lower Floor East, the second suit of armor in the Great Hall, and more. These items will reset every six hours, to keep an eye on the clock.

13 Choose Your Dialogue Options Carefully

  • Choose dialogue options that fit your house, try to think like a Ravenclaw, Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, or Slytherin in these situations.

If winning the House Cup is important to you, as it is for most players, you'll want to win as many house points as you possibly can. House points can be earned in a number of ways but one way people often forget is in ensuring you represent your house to the best of your ability.

That means when you talk to characters, you should choose the dialogue option that reflects whatever house you chose at the beginning, whether that be Slytherin, Gryffindor, Hufflepuff, or Ravenclaw.

12 Turn Off The Wifi To Reset Your Game

  • Uninstalling and reinstalling won't work for Hogwarts Mystery. You'll need to start the game with Wifi off to get a fresh character.

There may come a time when you want to reset your game completely and get a fresh start. Maybe you want to make some different decisions or maybe you took a break and now you want to begin again without all your previous choices affecting you.

Normally to restart a game, you would just uninstall the app and then reinstall but that doesn't work for Hogwarts Mystery. According to Prima Guides, you instead need to turn off your WiFi and data and then start the game without it. You'll get an error message and from there, you can turn everything back on and restart the game successfully.

11 Use The Internet For Quiz Answers

  • Players that are grinding out attributes and rewards should look up Quiz answers to ensure they complete tasks quickly and accurately.

If you don't mind legitimately cheating to make your gameplay easier, you can use the internet to find the answers to many of the quiz questions. A lot of people have spent time creating guides with a layout of all the questions you might be asked and their answers.

This includes the Potions, Charms, and Flying quiz questions and beyond. This way you won't waste a bunch of time if you happen to forget the answer to a few questions.

10 Watch Ads

  • Watching sds can be annoying but they are supremely helpful in Hogwarts Mystery, helping players to refill energy faster and gain rewards.

Like most other games with microtransactions, Hogwarts Mystery gives players the option to watch short 30-second advertisements in exchange for energy bits. As long as you’re okay with sitting through a quick ad, this is a much better option than having to wait a half hour or longer for your energy to replenish. Watching ads can also grant you a certain number of free gems per day. But beware: you can only watch a limited number of ads per day before having to wait for tomorrow.

9 Choose The Right House

  • Players are able to choose any house they want, instead of being placed into one.

Unlike Pottermore or other Harry Potter-themed media, Hogwarts Mystery actually lets you pick your own house. While it’s important to choose the one that feels right to you — most people know instinctively which house they belong to — your choice of house will also affect how you accrue house points in the hopes of winning the House Cup and nabbing some handy gems. It helps to choose dialogue options that match the values of your house: brave and daring for Gryffindor, dedicated and loyal for Hufflepuff, intelligent and witty for Ravenclaw, and ambitious and cunning for Slytherin.

8 Find All The Easter Eggs

  • Easter Eggs reward players with energy and resources when tapped on.

Throughout the game world, there are several energy reserves hidden in the game’s locations that contain extra energy that will definitely come in handy during your wizarding adventure. Make sure to explore every area in the game and interact with every item and character to find these Easter eggs. A couple of examples are tapping a sleeping House-Elf in the Dungeons and finding the girl in the black painting near Charms class in the East Tower.

7 Take Care Of Your Pets

  • Choose a pet wisely but eventually snag all of them if you can.

Just like Harry and Hermione, your first year at Hogwarts wouldn’t be complete without an animal companion. Hogwarts Mystery gives you the choice between owl, rat, cat, and toad. Owls cost the most gems, while rats and toads are the cheapest.

After letting them rest, waking your pets up will grant you free energy, which is invaluable to completing the game’s challenges and quests. While expensive, having all four pets will give you the most free energy per day.

6 Pick Your Favorite Wand

  • Wand choices are purely cosmetic but players will receive one of three wands based on how they answer Ollivander.

While your trip to Ollivander’s may seem like you’ll be given the choice between dozens of wands, in reality, you’ll be given one of three: a 12-inch acacia wand, an 11-and-three-quarter inch blackthorn wand, or an 11-inch hornbeam wand. While the difference is purely cosmetic, it just wouldn’t be the same adventure without the perfect wand, would it? Ollivander will ask you how you felt about your brother being expelled from Hogwarts before awarding you your first wand. Answer “I was angry” for the blackthorn wand, “I felt bad for him” for acacia, and “I was determined” for hornbeam.

5 Study Up

  • Players should take their time and focus during lessons.

Just like the real Hogwarts, you’ll need to put your nose to the grindstone to succeed — think more Hermione and less Neville. Learning spells, taking flying lessons, and brewing potions will increase your skills and prepare your hero for the more challenging tasks ahead. Don’t rush it, either. If you don’t wait for your turn to demonstrate your skills to your professor, the game may read the attempt as a failure, setting you back even further.

4 Learn How To Duel

  • Players should try to "guess" what their opponent will cast during duels. Play smart.

Much like classic RPGs like Pokemon and Fire Emblem, the dueling system in Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery uses a rock-paper-scissors model to determine the winner. There are three styles: aggressive, defensive, and sneaky.

The first phase is mostly based on chance, although you might be able to guess which stance your opponent will take based on previous battles. Then comes the action round, giving you options such as casting an offensive spell, throwing a vial, or drinking a healing potion. Keep an eye on your health and exploit your opponent’s weaknesses to succeed.

3 Make Friends

  • In-game friends can really come in handy, it pays to be somewhat social in Hogwarts Mystery.

Harry wouldn’t have gotten far without his trusty friends at his side, and in Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery, neither will you. Friendship is one of the most important aspects in the game, as developing friendships with other students can grant you extra gems and nab you companions for some of the game’s most difficult quests. You can level up your friends’ attributes to match with yours, though it’s a good idea to wait until your own skills are appropriately high. Keep an eye on dialogue with your friends, as choosing the right dialogue options to match their personalities will make befriending them that much easier.

2 Maintain Your Focus

  • Mastering mini-games can make the adventure much more rewarding.

One of Hogwarts Mystery’s most challenging mini-games involves a quick-time event that involves the touch screen of your mobile device. A glowing ring will pulsate between other rings on the screen; your job is to tap quickly while the glowing ring is inside the boundaries. It can be challenging to get this right, and it’s arguably the only part of the game that requires speed and dexterity. One tip is to hold your finger on the button and release it at the right moment — this will make it much easier to get the timing right.

1 Max Out Your Attributes

  • Try to keep attributes as balanced as possible, it gets harder to level as time goes on.

Your character in Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery comes with three key attributes you can level up throughout the game: Courage, Empathy, and Knowledge. This is essentially the bread and butter of the game: going to class, buying items with gems, and even choosing new looks for your pets will level up your attributes, which will in turn level up your character. Because leveling up in late-game can be challenging, we recommend balancing all three attributes equally, as each will unlock different dialogue options with friends that will net you extra experience points.
