Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery is decking the castle halls for the holiday season. The first title by Portkey Games has been largely overshadowed by the launch of the company's second partner project with Niantic, Harry Potter: Wizards Unite. Despite the waning success, Hogwarts Mystery has provided consistent updates and additional content for its loyal fanbase to enjoy.

This year's festivities will not only include in-game holiday themes and side quests but also a 12-day holiday advent for players to follow along with on social media. The advent consists of various daily tasks to earn in-game rewards and is running now through December 14th.

As with last years' Christmas event, Hogwarts is embracing the holiday spirit by decorating the castle from head to toe including house dormitories, the castle grounds, and even Hogsmead. There are also limited-time seasonally themed side quests to complete. This quest chain is open to students who've completed Year 1 Chapter 7 in the main storyline.

Social Media Advent and Sweepstakes

Hogwarts Mystery developer Jam City has broken away from solely in-game festivities this holiday season. By partaking in the Christmas Countdown at Hogwarts 12-day advent event, taking place on the @hphogwartsmystery Instagram page, players may earn in-game rewards such as currency and festive attire. The daily activities consist of small tasks like tagging a friend to the post or voting on in-game holiday scenes and exclusive prizes. Certain daily tasks enter fans into sweepstakes for the chance to win Harry Potter merchandise like holiday-themed puzzles or mugs.

Portkey Games is every bit as focused on producing new content for their first title as they are on new endeavors. In addition to regular occurrences of in-game events, the application of social media sweepstakes is a new way Jam City and Portkey Games are working to keep their fanbase actively engaged.

Hogwarts Mystery may not be as prominent as it was prior to the launch of Wizards Unite, but that doesn't mean the developers are any less dedicated to the first title's consistent progress and fan involvement. Harry Potter: Hogwarts Mystery serves to remind muggle-dwelling wizards there is truly nowhere like Hogwarts for the holidays.
