The next addition to the wizarding world is the mobile title Harry Potter: Magic AwakenedThe game was initially announced back in October 2019. Having had a few small scale tests runs, the first open beta has now been announced for May 29th.

Harry Potter: Magic Awakened will be a card-based RPG with some tap and shake mechanics included as well. The game looks heavily story-driven, beginning with muggle-born players receiving their acceptance letter from none other than Rubeus Hagrid. Players will experience all the nuances of being introduced to the wizarding world, such as shopping in Diagon Alley, accessing Platform 9 3/4, and being sorted into Hogwarts houses.

There are several YouTube videos from the various test runs showcasing how the card-based battling will pan out. The game will utilize a mana bar styled system with each spell given a mana value and depleting the bar accordingly. Players will have to wait for the bar to refill before casting another higher valued card.

The RPG action's interwoven into the card system by dragging cards onto a target and watching the magic play out. This is a welcome relief to those who were expecting full RPG style gameplay and were trepidatious about turn-based cutscene mechanics upon hearing the game would be card-based.

Unfortunately, there's no word yet when the game will head West, but Harry Potter: Magic Awakened's open beta will be available on May 29th in China for both iOS and Android. Sign-ups are available now on the game's official site.
