When speaking of Bellatrix Lestrange one must go in with the mindset of everything being ridiculous. The character isn’t exactly known for her sane presence of mind and is infamous for her crazed antics during the second wizarding war in Harry Potter. Bellatrix Lestrange was a late addition to the series, having debuted in the fifth instalment, Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, but made an immediate impact.

She was responsible for a number of tragedies toward Harry and his close personal friends. This is something Bellatrix took great pride in, having been the chief deputy to Lord Voldemort during his heydays. Mainly due to Helena Bonham Carter’s portrayal of Bellatrix, she’s seen her fair share of fans in the real world. These people overlook the fact that Bellatrix was a total mental case who doesn’t deserve, nor cares for, anyone’s respect other than from Voldemort.

A number of ridiculous things happened to Bellatrix during her lifetime. Her involvement with the dark arts and Voldemort assured she would partake in things most people dare not dream of. In her own way, those things can be considered great feats considering not many could pull off what she did. With the Harry Potter series seeing an end in 2007 after Deathly Hallows, Bellatrix’s fame fell down a bit, until Cursed Child came around.

This screenplay revitalized interest in Bellatrix greatly despite she being only a posthumous mention in it. For you to know just how much Bellatrix was involved in, read on about the 25 Ridiculous Things about Bellatrix’s body.

25 Giving Birth To Voldemort’s Child

Starting off with the weirdest thing that happened with Bellatrix’s body, Harry Potter and the Cursed Child-which remains a lousy, fan fiction-style story-revealed that she had given birth to Voldemort’s child between the events of Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince and Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows.

The timeline doesn’t quite make sense, much like the story itself.

At no point did we have any indication that Bellatrix may have been with child, but as the story’s supposed to be canon, we’ll have to take the word of the script for the play and accept that Bellatrix was up to more than just bad in her spare time.

24 Utter Devotion To Voldemort

via: deslea.deviantart.com

There was absolutely nothing Bellatrix wouldn’t do for Voldemort. The woman was crazy for Voldemort to this degree that she was seen licking her Dark Mark tattoo when she was about to be broken out of Azkaban.

Bellatrix also showed true concern for Voldemort when the latter fainted after hitting Harry with the Avada Kedavra curse in the Forbidden Forest. It is believed that had Voldemort ordered Bellatrix to take her own life for him, she would do so with no arguments. Bellatrix even told Narcissa if she had sons of her own she wouldn’t have flinched in the slightest to offer them up for the same task Draco had.

23 Voldemort Still Never Loved Her

via imgflip.com

Evidently, Voldemort had some knack for physical affection seeing that he fathered a child with Bellatrix, but one shouldn’t be too quick to jump in and consider the Big Bad to be filled with feelings of love for his Baby Mama. This is because, despite being the father of Delphini, Voldemort still never cared deeply for her mother.

Voldemort saw Bellatrix mainly as a chief lieutenant in his Death Eater army and was livid at her fall at Molly Weasley’s hands due to her usefulness to his cause. Deep down, there were no loving feelings in regards to Bellatrix, who knew no love like the one she had for Voldemort.

22 Her Polyjuice Potion Was Disgusting

via imgflip.com

When Hermione Granger impersonated Bellatrix to infiltrate the Ministry of Magic, she had to make use of the polyjuice potion to take the form of the witch. Hermione was a shrew concoctor of the potion, but even she could do nothing about the bad taste the potion brought to her mouth. She claimed the potion tasted vile and disgusting, perhaps more so than the ill-conceived cat hair potion she’d ingested in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets.

The reason why Bellatrix’s potion tasted this way wasn’t because all polyjuice potions are supposed to, it was due to Bellatrix’s vile personality. Hermione was literally tasting evil when taking Bellatrix’s polyjuice potion.

21 She Didn’t Perish As Seen In Film

This is a point of exasperation for a sizable amount of dedicated novel fans. The films made it a point to glamorize a lot of the elements of the books; chief among them were the Death Eaters freely flying about, a quality only seen in Snape and Voldemort in the novels.

Bellatrix’s perishing scene isn’t part of the canon.

In Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows, Molly Weasley finished Bellatrix’s life, but it was only done by using the appropriate spell to do so. In the film, Molly blasted Bellatrix into nothingness, which is never covered in the novel canon. It did look pretty over-the-top in retrospect.

20 The Polyjuice Potion Also Changed Hermione’s Voice

While we’re on the topic of changing elements during the transition from book to screen, here’s another tidbit for you: the polyjuice potion also changes the person’s voice to their intended target. In the films, this is something very clearly ignored. Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets introduced the concept by showing Goyle and Crabbe with Harry and Ron’s voices respectively.

In Deathly Hallows – Part 2, Hermione still quite plainly sounds like herself while wearing Bellatrix’s appearance. This was all done to make the cinematic experience more thrilling, with the possibility of Hermione’s cover being blown; however, none of this exists in the novels.

19 Accidentally Injuring Neville (For Real)

This may sound like a ridiculous idea, but is something that happened in real life. Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix was the first appearance of Bellatrix, and perhaps getting carried away in her portrayal of a mad woman, Helena Bonham Carter accidentally injured her co-star, Matthew Lewis, during filming.

In the above picture, the actress is moments away from puncturing Matthew’s ear with the pointy wand she’s brandishing him with. Although Lewis didn’t give it away then, the actor was seriously injured in the process and had to be checked out by medical officials. To her credit, Helena Bonham Carter did admit she felt terrible about it.

18 She’s Stronger Than Aurors

via youtube.com

You better believe it; Bellatrix looks like a frail lady in her middle age, but when speaking through sheer magical force, she’s more powerful than almost anyone we’ve seen in the Wizarding world. Bellatrix has defeated the likes of Mad-Eye Moody, Tonks, Kingsley Shacklebolt, the Longbottoms, and Sirius Black.

All of the mentioned names were either aurors or supremely powerful wizards.

However, you should count your lucky stars if you’ve never met Bellatrix in the battlefield as chances are she won’t take long to take your life. Only Molly Weasley can claim to be the one to defeat her definitively.

17 Personally Trained By Voldemort

via bustle.com

If you were wondering how Bellatrix became powerful to the degree that she could defeat one-of-a-kind wizards, here’s your answer. Bellatrix had the ‘honor’ of being trained by one of the greatest wizards to ever live: Voldemort. The Dark wizard, while having committed many crimes, truly was powerful to the highest degree, and having tapped into the deepest depths of dark magic, Voldemort could even summon power enough to beat Grindelwald and Dumbledore.

He trained Bellatrix the most out of all his servants, being absolutely certain that she would never leave his side, and taught her almost as much as he knew when it came to dueling.

16 She Enjoys Being Bad

Via: Playbuzz

If you were having any misgivings about Bellatrix being a person dealing with some kind of Stockholm syndrome at the hands of Voldemort, then think again. Bellatrix didn’t turn to the dark side because of Voldemort’s influence (well, maybe a little), instead, she was lured into being bad simply because she enjoys it.

A lot of the acts she’s committed have happened due to the pure enjoyment she receives from them.

During times like Dumbledore’s final moments or Sirius’ end, Bellatrix is heard loudly cackling in glee. She thrives in dark times and her motivation to bring about these events is her enjoyment for them.

15 She Was Bad Partly Due To Her Wand

Via: Pikabu

It can’t be said with absolute certainty whether her wand made her bad or whether it were her actions that caused the wand to become that way, but Bellatrix’s malevolence was carried forward, or stemmed from, her wand. The wand was labelled as “unyielding” by Olivander when judging its capabilities and the wizard was noticeably uncomfortable around.

He wasn’t the only one as Harry and Hermione proclaimed their distaste for Bellatrix’s wand as it was a tool for the number of horrible acts she’d committed. With a wand core that fed off of bad practices, it contributed toward Bellatrix’s merciless personality.

14 She Used To Be Attractive

via harrypotter.wikia.com

It’s hard to picture anything attractive about Bellatrix; whether it was who she was as a human being or physical attributes, but the witch was once quite the looker. Being part of the same family as Sirius meant she also inherited the good looks the family was famous for.

In appearances before her incarceration in Azkaban, Bellatrix was routinely described to be beautiful. In her lone appearance before her current state in the movies, Bellatrix’s picture was seen in a family tree where she did appear to be in a much better state than the one we’ve become familiar with.

13 She Was In Love With Voldemort

via pinterest.com

It’s pretty ridiculous to fall for someone who has no clue of the concept of love, but such was the case when it came to Voldemort and Bellatrix. The only time Bellatrix ever showed tenderness was when she was in the company of ole Voldy. Bellatrix’s motivations to be part of the Death Eaters, while feeding her villainous tendencies, were mainly due to her unconditional love for Voldemort.

This was the precursor for the fangirls who love the Joker-Harley Quinn romance.

The guy couldn’t care less about the girl, who would go to the ends of the Earth to impress the one she loves, even if it means taking lives of innocents.

12 Her Role Was Greatly Expanded

via youtube.com

The Harry Potter film series was in need of a regular villainous figure to drive home the idea of the wizarding world being in dire straits. As Voldemort wasn’t available to appear on a regular basis, the filmmakers made use of the second best character to achieve this. Bellatrix’s scenes in all of Order of the Phoenix, Half-Blood Prince and Deathly Hallows – Parts 1 & 2, were modified to include more of her.

Those who are intimately familiar with the novels will have undoubtedly noticed Bellatrix showing up more than was expected of her. Fortunately, most of her scenes made sense (except maybe one).

11 Trapped In A Loveless Marriage

Via: Fandom

People will remember one of the most ludicrous things about Bellatrix was the fact that she was named Lestrange and yet her significant other was never once seen either onscreen or in the books. This was due to Bellatrix’s marriage to Rudolphus Lestrange being purely a marriage of convenience.

Bellatrix had no care or consideration for Rudolphus.

JK Rowling said that Bellatrix married Rudolphus because it was expected of a Pureblood witch to be married off when she was age. Rudolphus was never mentioned by Bellatrix, despite being present in many important situations. In the films, he’s never mentioned by name but can be seen in the background.

10 She Wasn’t In Half-Blood Prince (Much)

via aceshowbiz.com

To build upon the point made earlier above, Bellatrix’s scenes were added to the story of the film. This has only ever been done for her as the movies follow the events of the books closely. In Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince, Bellatrix appeared at the Burrow to set the house aflame. She also had a confrontation with Harry near the house, where Fenrir Greyback attempted to make his move.

She was given a starring role in the siege of Hogwarts.

In the books, Delphini is meant to be conceived around this time; however, the films added Bellatrix in the assassination of Dumbledore, even having her attack Harry at one point as well.

9 Oldest Of Three Sisters

via imgflip.com

Bellatrix acts childish and immature throughout most of her appearances, which is why it should be a surprise to know that she’s, in fact, the eldest of three daughters. Many would have forgotten by now that Bellatrix had two sisters, rather than simply Narcissa Malfoy. Her other sister was Andromeda Tonks.

Not much is known about Andromeda other than her status as the blood traitor of her family by marrying Muggle-born Ted Tonks. Bellatrix seemed to have had a close relationship of sorts to Narcissa, having referred to her with a pet name; but all in all, Bellatrix isn’t the model sister figure one would expect.

8 Her Maiden Name

via bustle.com

The sisters just mentioned were not only closely related to Sirius, they shared his name! Bellatrix hailed from the House of Blacks, making her one of the very few pureblood wizards still alive. This caused her superiority complex and affiliation with the Death Eaters.

This also makes her disposing of Sirius all the more disturbing.

Bellatrix took the life of her first cousin without any trouble. Sirius was also a good decade younger than Bellatrix, which meant she had no problems taking the life of someone she should’ve treated like a younger sibling. Knowing the way the Blacks were, they would’ve been satisfied a blood traitor was taken out by a pureblood in the family.

7 Expert Occlumens

via youtube.com

For someone who was brash and tended to blow their head off at the most menial of things, Bellatrix sure had a knack for Occlumency. It didn’t really align with her characterization to be adept in closing off her mind seeing as Bellatrix was always loudmouthed, but this skill was also one of the perks she received due to her association with Voldemort.

Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince revealed that Draco Malfoy had been learning Occlumency from his aunt in order to close his mind off to powerful wizards such as Dumbledore. The presence of this skill in her arsenal made Bellatrix powerful to another degree.

6 Her Greatest (And Twisted) Pride

via youtube.com

You’d think one’s greatest achievement would be to top classes at school, or receive a promotion at work, but for Bellatrix, her finest accomplishment was landing herself in Azkaban.

This may be confusing, but in Bellatrix’s twisted mind it was something to be proud of.

In one of her only collaborations with her husband, Bellatrix interrogated Neville Longbottom’s parents to the point that there was nothing left of their conscience. They were permanently admitted to an institution for the insane and Bellatrix was sent to prison. However, over a decade later, Bellatrix proudly used this as an excuse for her loyalty to Voldemort and rubbed it in Neville’s face.
