In Harry Potter: Wizards Unite, potions are used to aid you along your adventure in various ways. Some are quite useful, while others seem to strike a moot point. Lengthy brew times and elusive ingredients may outweigh the use of many potions. Let's breakdown the entire list of potions along with their uses, brew times, required ingredients, and an overall time-waster analysis.

The 'Extimulo' Family

The Extimulo potion, along with its enhanced counterparts ('Strong' and 'Potent'), serves as a sort of strengthening solution. Lowering Foundable severity, as well as enhancing your offensive against Oddities and Wizarding Challenge Foes- this family of Potions is no doubt a must-have, but the more potency you require, the higher price you pay.

(Stats ordered: Extimulo -> Strong -> Potent)

Brew Times: 2hr -> 4hr -> 8hr

Ingredients:

Bitterroot- 1 -> 3 -> 4

Snowdrop- 1 -> 4 -> 6

Re'em Blood- 1 -> 1 -> 2

Hair- 1 Granian -> 1 Abraxan -> 1 Unicorn

While Extimulo and Strong Extimulo Potions have moderate brew times, Potent Extimulo Potions hold the second-longest brew time of any Potion. The Unicorn hair required for a Potent Extimulo is also harder to come by, found mainly inside Portkeys or as rewards, while Granian and Abraxan hairs are more akin to nickels and dimes.

Due to this, you shouldn't hold out for Potent Extimulo Potions. Instead, brew all of the Strong and basic Extimulos you can, to ensure a steady supply. When you do have the ingredients on hand, you should take the opportunity to brew as many Potents as possible.

Baruffio's Brain Elixir

Another undeniably helpful Potion, Baruffio's Brain Elixir grants double Wizarding XP. Effective in Wizarding Challenges, Portkeys and encounters. This valuable potion comes at high costs.

Brew Time: 12hr (Longest of all Potions)

Ingredients: 2 Leaping Toadstools, 1 Frog Brain, 1 Runespore Egg, 1 Powdered Dragon Claw

Via Kim breakfast bar

To start, Leaping Toadstool is exceedingly rare and the other ingredients are none too commonplace either. Given their rarity, it's good you do not need to stockpile ingredients; the recipe calling for only 1 or 2 of each. Overall Baruffio's Brain Elixir is a long, but worthwhile endeavor.

Healing Potion

With a self-explanatory title, the Healing Potion is an invaluable resource in the heat of Wizarding Challenges. Thankfully, it's also amongst the easiest to obtain.

Brew Time: 2hr

Ingredients: 1 Wormwood, 3 Bubotuber Pus, 2 Dittany, 1 Dragonliver

With the shortest brew time of any Potion and all of its ingredients being highly commonplace, this Potion is easy to brew and should be kept in copious supply.

Invigoration Draughts

The Invigoration Draught applies 1 Focus (3 with Strong Draughts) towards Strategic Spell casts in Wizarding Challenges. Depending on your Profession and playstyle, these potions can be relatively useless- or rather helpful.

Brew Times: 3hr -> 6hr

Ingredients: 1 Honeywater, 1 Vervain Infusion, 1 Scurvygrass, 2 Lovage (Sneezewort for Strong)

The ingredients are fairly easy to obtain and brew times moderate but, if your Profession doesn't call for their aid, don't waste your time.

Dawdle Draught

This Draught is said to lower the chance of a Foundable departing. With a description like that, it's akin to the fabled 'liquid luck' in that, do we know if it truly works? With the time and ingredient requirements, it might not be worth finding out.

Brew Time: 6hrs

Ingredients: 2 Valerian Root, 1 Sopophorus Bean, 1 Butterscotch, 1 Hermit Crab Shell

Between its questionable effects, exhaustive brew time, and uncommon ingredients- though not exceedingly rare either- this Potion is possibly the biggest time-waster of all.

Wit-Sharpening Potion

This Potion boosts your spell efficiency by half against Elite Foes within Wizarding Challenges. While this effect is helpful, you won't need too many on hand, given its selective use.

Brew Time: 4hrs

Ingredients: 4 Ginger Roots, 3 Newt Spleens, 1 Ground Scarab Beetle, 1 Armadillo Bile

Both brew time and rarity of ingredients are moderate with this Potion. Though definitely not a necessity, it's a good one to build a small stock of before a big day of Wizarding Challenges. If you're not a Fortress fighter, however, don't bother!

Tonic For Trace Detection

New with the arrival of Dragons in-game, this Potion grants you heightened Trace Detection as you explore. Though it's effects are tempting, it comes with costs.

Brew Time: 7hrs

Ingredients: 6 Baneberries, 4 Bulbadox Juice, 4 Angels Trumpets, 2 Erumpent Horns.

Via Kim breakfast bar

Not only is the Potion new, but so are all of the ingredients. So far these seem to spawn rather unevenly. (You may accrue a large pile of Angel Trumpets without collecting another single ingredient.) If you can gather all of the ingredients, this is surely a helpful Potion for rural players. The extensive brew time may not be worth it for those with naturally sufficient spawn rates, however.

Overall, every Potion can be of use and you should brew them when you are able- if only to maintain your Ingredient Vault capacity for more important ingredients. You should always be selective and prioritize when brewing, especially on a time crunch, keeping in mind the brewing time and your Potion Vault capacity.
