The season of giving kicked off early in Harry Potter: Wizards Unite with the new Gifting feature allowing players to share gifts with others on their Friends List. Between this new social mechanic and the two-part Yule Ball event taking place throughout the month, Wizards Unite is gearing up for a festive holiday season indeed.

How Does the Gifting System Work?

There are a few different ways to obtain gift boxes, each one yielding a different sort of gift to aid friends in their adventures. Similar to Pokémon GO's gifting system, Gift Boxes are found at various points of interest. Wizards can obtain boxes by dining at Inns, uprooting Green House plants, and completing Wizarding Challenges within Fortresses.

All gifts include a supply of Wizarding XP and a chance at a special item. However, the method in which the Gift Box was obtained determines the color of the box and contents inside. Boxes obtained from Inns will be blue and contain Spell Energy. Green Houses fittingly produce green Gift Boxes containing useful Potion Ingredients. Last but not least, Fortresses may award yellow boxes upon completion with a gift of various Runestones inside.

With Gift Boxes ready to go in the new Gift Inventory on the social page, players may send and receive gifts with fellow wizards via the Friend List also located under the social tab on the overworld screen. According to the game's official news site, sponsored locations will reward greater base rewards. This presumably refers to Wizards Unite's new sponsorship with Simon Malls®, Mills®, and Premium Outlets®.

Things To Be Aware Of

There are several factors of the new gifting mechanic that players should be aware of. Firstly, wizards may not open Gift Boxes they collect personally and must instead gift the boxes to friends. The Gift Inventory allows wizards to stock up on boxes while out and about, holding a max capacity of thirty boxes. As wizards may only send one gift to each friend every twenty-four hours, players will want to make sure not to leave anyone out so as not to run out of storage.

Wizards also have a limit to how many gifts they themselves may open each day. With a limit of ten gifts a day, players may want to prioritize gifts from more active friends so those friends are able to continue sending gifts. Keep in mind the color of the boxes hints at the contents within, providing another method for prioritizing gifts received. Gift givers and recipients alike are able to see the point of interest where the gift was collected, bringing long-distance friends together over the holidays.

Harry Potter: Wizards Unite's new gifting feature was a great way to kickstart the holidays. The mechanic further encourages player cooperation and provides more ways to keep a supply stock of necessities for maintaining the Statute of Secrecy. The Calamity poses an ongoing threat, so remember to spread the holiday cheer within the Wizarding World as well this year.
