2020 is going to be Hatsune Miku's year. Her highly anticipated rhythm game Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA MegaMix for the Nintendo Switch is already scheduled to be released on February 13 in Japan, but that won't be Miku's only big moment this spring. The Vocaloid idol will be making her Coachella debut this April, according to the recently released festival lineup.

The Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival is an annual music festival held every year in California. The festival has become a hub for Instagram baddies, YouTube influencers, and celebrities of all kinds to converge and party with only the hottest music artists. And this year, Japan's pop princess Hatsune Miku is coming along for the ride. She'll be performing on April 10 on Weekend 1 and again on April 17 on Weekend 2, according to Coachella's official lineup released this past Thursday night.

This invitation will mark Hatsune Miku's Coachella debut. But performing in front of sold-out crowds in front of millions of fans and live streaming cameras won't be a problem for her. She's been regularly selling out concerts in massive amphitheaters and stadiums for the past decade in Japan.

For those who are unfamiliar with Japan's pop idol, Hatsune Miku is a holographic performer developed by Crypton Future Media. Her first appearance was in 2007 as a "Vocaloid", a singing vocal synthesizer. The name "Hatsune Miku", which roughly translates into "first sound of the future", refers to both the software voicebank, which enables Miku to sing lyrics through a user's text commands; and the kawaii singing mascot who takes the appearance of a 16-year-old girl with electric blue twintails. While singing "live", she appears on a giant video screen like a hologram. Though she may not physically be there, it has not stopped crowds from cheering her on for years.

Miku won't be the only Japanese idol to perform at Coachella this year. J-pop star and Internet-dubbed "Queen of Kawaii" Kyary Pamyu Pamyu will also be performing on April 12 and 19. Could the shared festival lineup mean a collab from the two pop idols in the future? One can only hope...
