Sega has released a new trailer for the upcoming Nintendo Switch rhythm game Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA MegaMix showcasing the game's different methods to play, including one that utilizes the Switch's Joy-cons.

The YouTube trailer showcased the two different gameplay methods: Arcade Mode, which can be played either using the docked Switch or the Nintendo Switch Lite with the standard buttons. For those who have played previous Project DIVA games, this mode of gameplay will be familiar. However, players can also try out the brand new Mix Mode, which uses the Joy-cons as gyro controls. From the trailer, it appears there will be three kinds of notes - one for the L button, one for the R button, and notes that require the player to hold down the button for an extended period of time.

Reactions to the trailer on YouTube have been mostly positive, though some fans have expressed concerns regarding the Mix Mode controls. Given the nature of the rhythm game, controls will need to be accurate in order for the gameplay to be enjoyable.

Another issue raised in the comments was the button placement on controls. Project DIVA MegaMix marks the debut of Hatsune Miku's Project DIVA series, a franchise whose previous titles have all been on Sega's PlayStation consoles. PlayStation controls features the X (or "cross") button where the Switch currently features the B button. There is also an X button on the Switch in a different location as well. Fans of previous Project DIVA MegaMix titles may have some difficulty adjusting to the button locations when first playing.

As previously reportedHatsune Miku: Project DIVA MegaMix is the latest installment in the decade-long Project DIVA franchise. The new game will feature 101 different songs upon release, with even more music available through downloadable content. Like in previous games, players can play as different Vocaloids and choose between 300 different outfits to customize their idols exactly how they want.

Hatsune Miku: Project DIVA MegaMix for the Nintendo Switch will be released on February 13, 2020 in Japan, and on an unspecified date in 2020 in the West.
