In a weeks time, the Hearthstone Winter Championship begins, but you can choose a champion right now with a chance of gaining up to three free card packs.

Simply head over to the choose your champion page, log into your Blizzard account, and pick a competitor from the line up. Choose wisely, because your rewards depend upon their success.

Packs are rewarded to anyone who chooses a competitor who makes it to the quarterfinals or further. One pack is awarded for reaching the quarterfinals, another for the semi-finals, and a third if your chosen champion reaches the final round.

There are sixteen champions in total - four from each region - who will face off against each other. This is the third and final Hearthstone Championship Tour (HCT) event for the Year of the Raven, and will be broadcast live from the Blizzard Arena in Los Angeles, on the official Twitch Hearthstone channel.

Champions are competing for a share of the $250,000 prize pool, as well as a seat at the HCT World Championship.

Initially, four groups, each comprising one player from each region, will compete until only eight remain. Then, on Saturday, March 2nd, elimination and decider matches will take place before the top eight battle in the playoffs on Sunday, March 3rd.

The top four players will also earn a seat at the HCT World Championship, with one being crowned the Winter Champion.

It's a big week for Hearthstone, as we also have the Wild Open to look forward to. This tournament collects 300 players; 100 each from Europe, the Americas, and the Asia Pacific regions. Each player qualified for the competition simply by playing the game in Wild mode and placing in the top 100 on the Wild leaderboards for their region.

Players will begin to compete on February 23rd, and all matches will be streamed on Twitch, as the long, hard race for a share of the $30,000 prize pot begins.

This tournament is unique in that Wild mode uses all of the currently available cards in the game, including those from newest expansion, Rastakhan’s Rumble, leading to some weird and wonderful deck creations.

The Hearthstone Open Wild begins February 23rd, while the Hearthstone Winter Championship runs from Feb 28th through March 3rd.
