Fallout is a series that's known for its massive open worlds, full of 50s throwback style and enough content to keep you going for hours and hours on end, and it's hard to see it all in one playthrough. Especially if you're someone who focuses on the main story quests. Some of the best loot, easter eggs, and just downright bizarre events happen when you leave the beaten path and start exploring the unknown. Be wary though, and try to level up your character a bit before attempting to find these locations yourself as you might find stronger enemies than you're used to.

That being said, I’ve come up with a list of incredible hidden locations that you never found in Fallout, so you don't miss out on any of the great content the team at Bethesda has come up with. Some of the creepiest mysterious locations and the most unique and powerful weapons are found in the most unexpected places and finding them all can be difficult and time-consuming. Still, these specific locations make it well worth the search. I will only be covering the modern Fallout games including Fallout 3, New Vegas, and Fallout 4, but not including the DLC. Enjoy wastelanders.

15 The Small Town With A Big Secret, Andale

Just south of the Fairfax ruins in the DC wasteland of Fallout 3, there's a little town with a dark secret. There's also an unmarked quest there called “our little secret” but on the surface, everything seems fine and dandy. There are only a couple families in the old run downtown but apparently, it's the best town in the USA as one of the residents would say. So what's the big secret? A running theme in the Fallout series is survival and everyone in this town seems to be doing quite well, enough food to go around and they won’t hesitate to keep letting you know. Once you start snooping around a little you’ll find a basement full of corpses and a fridge stocked with “strange meat.” If you haven't figured it out yet the inhabitants of this town are cannibals. Watch your back as you exit the basement.

14 An experiment Gone Wrong, Vault 108

Credit: www.retinadesgastada.com

There is some lore in the Fallout universe that says some of the vaults were set up with an experiment in mind. One of them was having a self-sustaining vault where all the inhabitants would live off of plant matter, and another was a vault with very minimal light to see to see how the dwellers would adapt to these dark conditions. North of the Corvega Factory there's a vault with a more sinister experiment that took place.

Vault 108 was the home to a cloning experiment, and the man they chose was one of the vaults first inhabitants, His name was Gary. Initially, the experiment was going fine, but once the Gary’s started outnumbering the other vault members they got worried and began trying to kill them. Visit the vault and see for yourself if anyone remains. Just a heads up, bring a weapon with a decent amount of ammo.

13 Clean On The Outside, Madness On The Inside, Cabot House

Credit: youtube.com user dChen

There are two reasons you’ll want to stop by the Cabot House and complete the quest here. Number one being that there's a very powerful gamma gun to attain here and another reason is the creepy branching questline that takes place here.

The quest is called the “The Secret of the Cabot house” where you’ve been requested to help kill the family's father or you can help the father kill the family. Or if you would like to gain all the loot the Cabot family has to offer you can start by helping the father but end up killing everyone. It's hard taking sides in this quest as Lorenzo seems like a madman, but the Cabot family has been leeching off of him for 400 years to stay alive. You decide who's the craziest in this situation, perhaps it's you?

12 Are My Eyes Playing Tricks On Me? Dunwich Building

Credit: blog.retinadesgastada.com

The Dunwich Building is easily one of the creepiest places in Fallout 3 and probably in the entire series. There is no quest that takes place here until you get the Point Lookout DLC but even if you don’t have the quest it's still worth visiting. Upon approaching the building, you will almost immediately be met with a sense of impending danger even though there's nothing around the building at all.

Once you’re inside there are some peculiar things that happen here that don’t happen anywhere else in the game. Objects falling off tables and doors opening by themselves and probably the eeriest encounter is with these hallucinations that appear throughout the building. To figure out the story of what happened here you can collect the logs and listen to the logs left around and eventually make your way to the basement to find out the true mystery of the Dunwich building.

11 An Unlikely Place For A Unique Weapon, Snipers Shack

Credit: FalloutWiki

Shootout to all sniper players in the waste, one of the best sniper rifles in the game can be found here but if you didn’t know that, you might never come to this location. It's off the grid and doesn’t seem as if there would be anything in here looking from afar. Before stopping by, make sure you can pick “very hard” locks or bring dog meat with you as there is a glitch where he can fetch the contents of the crate here even though it's locked. The sniper rifle is called Victory Rifle and it's one of the few unique items in the game.

Other notable things here are the two pet radroaches in cages in the shack named Fluffy and Jitters. Cute names for radroaches. You can try out your new victory rifle on these nasty creatures because for some reason they never stop respawning.

10 Become The Barbarian, Hubris Comics

Credit: youtube.com user GameSecrets

In Fallout 3 when you had your 10th birthday, Amata gives you the 14th issue of Grognak the Barbarian and ever since this moment, Grognak has been referred to in many conversations across the wastes. In Fallout 4, the comic gives you the barbarian perk which raises critical damage from unarmed or melee attacks by 5%. So if you are a melee or unarmed combat build in fallout what better to compliment this play style than the costume of Grognak himself?

If you’re interested, then head west from Swans Pond and you should find Hubris Comics. The costume is one of two unique costumes that can be found here but watch out because the building is infested with ghouls. Once you smash through these enemies you’ll want to head up to the top floor where the costume will be hidden in a locker. Now enjoy your melee skills being boosted another 20%.

9 A Sad Wasteland Story, Matthews Animal Husbandry Farm

Credit: FalloutWiki

If you’re someone who enjoys the storytelling that takes place in the wastes then your next stop should be Matthes animal Husbandry farm. You’ll find diary entries around the farm which tell the tale of a boy whose parents left on some errands and when they came back, they were ghouls. The boy killed his “parents” and buried them by the farm which you can actually find the gravestones that mark where they rest.

As if that wasn’t bad enough, the boy ends up going completely insane as you’ll read in the later entries. He believes the animals that are left with him at the farm want to kill him and take over the farm. Luckily he's one step ahead of them and burns the farm to the ground killing himself in the process. There isn't really any loot here aside from a Sunset Sarsaparilla bottle cap if you're into collecting those, this one might bring you bad luck.

While traveling the wastes of Fallout 4 you may find some dead raiders who have a note in their possession saying “Pickman was here. Find me if you dare”. I recommend you do set out to find pickman and your search will bring you to one of the most unique locations in Fallout 4 which is Pickman’s Gallery. The gallery is decked out in raiders heads chopped off and put on spikes, creepy paintings that look to have been painted with blood.

If you head deep enough into the basement of the gallery you’ll find pickman being confronted by some raiders and you get to decide if you want to help him or kill him. Whichever decision you make you will attain a key used to unlock a hidden safe behind one of his grotesque paintings. Inside you'll find a legendary unique item called “Pickman’s Blade.” Now it's your turn to paint a picture.

7 The Most Beautiful Place In The Wastes, Oasis

Credit: youtube.com user Steady Eddie

When you think of Fallout scenery, you might think of desolate deserts or buildings breaking down and the last thing you would think of is an area teeming with vegetation and life. In Fallout 3 there a location to the most northern part of the map that you may have missed that fits that description. It's called Oasis.

There is a tribe here called the treeminders and when they welcome you in they will ask you to take part in a little ritual. Next thing you know you’ll be facing a tree. A tree named Harold. It seems the radiation of the wastes has fused a man with a tree and the treeminder tribe sort of treats him like a god and wants you to fetch some special sap from a cave to keep him alive but Harold just wants to die. You decide for yourself if you’ll take part in Harold's end.

6 Nothing To See Here... Wait A Minute. Scorpion Gulch

Credit: DeviantArt user Capmac

Now scorpion gulch is an area that can be easily overlooked as there really doesn’t seem to be anything special about it. Its filled with rad scorpions so you might want to head here with a companion to watch your back as you search around. But why would you search around here?

Knight Torres gives you a quest called “Pistol Packing” where she explains that an apprentice headed out to scorpion gulch on a field exercise and once they got there realized the scorpions were too much to handle and they dropped a pistol. Find that pistol and head back to Knight Torres to receive a pretty sweet reward for your trouble, a tri-beam laser rifle. Unless the scorpions are too much for you to handle as well. A Hunting rifle or anti-material rifle is recommended for taking these creatures on and Boone from Novac the perfect companion.

5 Deadlier Than A Deathclaw, Dead Wind Cavern

Credit: FalloutWiki

There are not many enemies in the wastes that can outdo the damage done by a deathclaw but what if I told you there's a legendary deathclaw who also guards a legendary unique weapon? If that deathclaw did exist he would be hiding in Dead Wind cavern but don’t he's not the only one hiding in there.

When you first start playing Fallout New Vegas you might be tempted to run north and get to the New Vegas strip as fast as possible. You then realize the quarry to the north is infested with deathclaws. I recommend taking the long road and gaining a LOT of experience and acquiring some powerful weapons before trying to come here but once you do it will be well worth it to visit. Deep in the cave, you'll find that legendary deathclaw and upon defeating him you’ll see he's been guarding one of the few unique weapons in the game, an automatic grenade launcher called Mercy.

4 The Hidden Entrance, Gorski's Cabin

Credit: youtube.com user Fallout 4 Guide

This little cabin is quite easy to miss. It looks like any other run-down abandoned shack in the wastes and peeking in you’ll see a ghoul asleep on a mattress. After taking care of it and looking around the cabin you still might not see what's special about this cabin until you find the hatch going towards the basement. I’m sure your curiosity will get the best of you at this point and you’ll head down.

The hatch leads down to an underground tunnel and following it will lead to a room. An eerie feeling may pass over your body at this point and upon opening the door to this room is where things really start to get creepy. There's a workbench here covered in materials and the parts for a disassembled mini nuke. What was being worked on here? There are some very creepy logs in a terminal in the room that are worth reading. The story that unfolds here is in reference to a man named Ted Kaczynski who was an anarchist and American terrorist which explains the bombs being tinkered with in the lab. The lab Gorski never made it out of.

3 The Loneliest Mister Handy, Mcclellan Family Townhome

Credit: tumblr.com user thefalloutscrolls

This location is my absolute favorite in Fallout 3. To get here you need to use the metro to get to north Georgetown and I’d like to note first and foremost there is no quest that takes place here and no special loot whatsoever but there is a very creepy story. When you enter the house, you’ll find a stroller that lets a know a baby was in this house. Head upstairs, and you’ll find the skeleton of a child lying in bed with his teddy bear in hand. Now if that's not creepy enough then head into the next room and power up the Mister Handy.

The mister handy has a few options that you can request from him, one of those options is to walk Muffy where the robot will go outside and attempt to walk a feral dog who will become aggressive towards you. He's somehow still alive and probably radiated beyond all measures. The creepiest of the options is “Read the child a bedtime story” where the robot will hover beside the dead child's skeleton and read him a very creepy poem about the war. I won’t spoil it because it's a moment you really need to experience first hand.

2 An Ode To The Old Games, Saugus Ironworks

Credit: PCGPedia

The reason you're sent here is a side quest for a man named Abraham Finch whose son left to join the forged but before he left he stole a special sword. That sword is one you might remember from Fallout 3, it's called the Shishkebab.

So what takes place here? Well it seems to be a raider compound but there's a unique group that lives here called the Forged and they are completely obsessed with fire. The raiders scattered around the area will attack you with a seemingly never-ending supply of Molotov cocktails. Make your way to the blast furnace inside the compound where you will find the leader of the gang and you’ll have some quest options of how you want to get that sword back. Also, on a side note, checkout the terminal in the building to read some creepy logs about how some forged members made mistakes during work and were fed to the forge.

1 A Location Marker That Goes Unvisited, Museum Of Witchcraft

Credit: FalloutWiki

Early in the game if you chat around with fellow wasteland inhabitants one will surely mention this disturbing location. And from that point on this location is there on the map but it's so far and off the grid that most people disregard it and continue on their way. To say this location is hidden might not be true but surely it is forgotten by most players, but I'm here to suggest checking it out if you're into the more creepy and disturbing areas of Fallout.

The Museum of Witchcraft, much like the Dunwich Building is full of bizarre occurrences that only happen in this location. As soon as you walk in you’ll realize there's a beast above you but he won’t be able to reach you, he’ll try to claw through the floor as you walk down the hallway though so beware. Thanks for reading my article and enjoy checking out these locations!
