Of course, ever since Dragon Quest VIII, Super Smash Bros Ultimate, and the recent Dragon Quest XI S, practically everyone knows the series one way or another. Jam-packed with an epic story full of love and forgiveness, Dragon Quest XI S is definitely something everyone should try.
However, what some may not know is that Dragon Quest XI S also has stories that are hidden. Whether they are in side quests or books. Here are the 10 hidden storylines that are in Dragon Quest XI S.
10 Sudo Nim
There are many books that have a variety of stories that can relate deeply to the lore of Dragon Quest XI. But one storyline, in particular, holds a lot of meaning if a fan is willing to decipher it as it has multiple installments.
Telling the story of the adventurer Sudo Nim, fans got to learn some of the things that he has done and the rewards he got at the end of his journey. But the biggest kicker of all was that he was, in fact, Chalky, the adoptive grandfather of the Luminary. Explaining the quick thinking that he pulled when gamers meet him.
9 Dave The Great
Another hidden story that exists in the game is one that is found in one of Dragon Quest XI's many books, they will discover the origins of Dave, the captain of the Salty Stallion that the party knows little of. He not only turns out to be a member of the Zwaardwurst Navy (which had recently been destroyed), but also had quite the reputation in the sea until Sylvando met him.
8 The Lovely Letter Duology
A quest chain that begins when the gamer talks to the guard on the way to Gondolia, the Luminary and his party had to go meet the guard's sister in which they have to give a letter containing some gold coins and hope for her sisters position as a baker. However, when one visits, it turns out that she has since taken a different job and has basically forgone the dream. Later in another quest, it is revealed she took a different job so that her father would get treatment. However, if one goes to Puerto Valor and talks to the doctor, they would learn that the father didn't want to get treated and wanted her to focus on her dreams.
7 Xero The Shadow
If the player walks back to the Octagonia cathedral where Vince and the other orphans live, they would begin a quest where one of the kids was hoping to have an autograph of Xero the Shadow who is known to hide in plain sight. When the Luminary finally meets him, he is honestly astonished as he grimly talks about how no one seems to notice him even when he shouts in their ears. But he is nonetheless happily writing an autograph for the kid. Later in the game, The Luminary can find him again in a magic door in the L'acadamie De Notre Maitre Des Medailles for a quest line regarding the art of hide and seek.
6 A Memorable Mystery
Speaking of the L'acadamie De Notre Maitre Des Medailles, there is another side quest there that is quite tragic if one decides to pursue it. If the player talks to the teacher at the Refectiore, she would request the Luminary's help in understanding the mysterious message hidden in her best friends dusty diary. Once the player completes the quest, they will discover that the teacher was once the best friend of Jade's mother who left the academy in order to become Queen of Heliodor. At the end of the quest, she even gives the player a Jade exclusive item.
5 One Last Request
Taking place at L'acadamie De Notre Maitre Des Medailles only at night, the main story of this questline is how a deceased student who is now a ghost hopes to seek out the treasure that's been left behind by the Maxie Van Bloem.
If the player decides to go to the wheatfields by the Zwaardwurst regions, they will discover that the treasure that was within her grave was the wheatfield that represents her homeland. Kind of tragic considering Zwaardwurst had been destroyed for many years before the story of the game.
4 Up Where They Walk
A questline that starts in Nautica, a mermaid will talk about how she once heard of a beautiful song sung from a little boy across the sea in a ship from Gondolia. If the player goes back to Gondolia and goes to an old man, they would hear that the boy singing it was him very long ago. Although the story was fairly brief, it does highlight some of the tragedies of a Mermaids lifespan.
3 A Delayed Diploma
Another quest from the L'acadamie De Notre Maitre Des Medailles, the player first gets it when they talk to Madame Augustine. She requests the player to give the diploma to her student who has run away days before the graduation to go back to Sniflheim 30 years ago. When the player visits Sniflheim and talk to a little girl, it is revealed that the girl has passed away a long time ago and she has since become a grandmother.
2 A Long Lost Literary Love
For a quest in Arboria, a bard requests that they decipher a love poem that has existed for a long time. With the second page being missing this becomes more diffucult. By travelling to a woodcutters house in the Manglegrove, they discovered that the love poem was written by Serenica.
For many players that may not know initially, as they get more development in the post-game, Serenica is the original incarnation of Veronica and Serena. In the past, she was the lover of Erdwin, the Luminary's previous life, which has greatly echoed throughout the story.
1 Sword Of Kings
Around the post-game, if the player visits a guy beside a shop with a blacksmith inside, the man will be talking about making a sword out of Orichalcum which is their greatest achievement. If the player gives him all the items, they will create the Sword of Kings.
For nostalgic fans, this is the exact same method that was done in order to create the Sword of Kings from Dragon Quest III. For those that caught this little easter egg, they will also know that the Sword of Kings eventually becomes what is called Erdrick's Sword.
