Spyro The Dragon was the first installment of the Spyro game series. After its release in 1998, the small purple dragon quickly became a fan favorite with players across the world loving the game. As with many games that are a part of a successful series, many argue that the original has been and always will be the best.

This may be the reason why the Spyro: Reignited Trilogy became such a big success. The trilogy was released in 2018 and the game is a complete remaster of the first three Spyro games, obviously including Spyro The Dragon. The remaster kept the original quirks of the game and even added some of its own for dedicated players to find. To this day, some players are still finding out about them.

10 Burn The Plants

Spyro The Dragon Burning Plants

Spyro may be on a mission to save the dragons after they were stuck in crystal by the terrible Gnasty Gnorc, but that doesn't mean that he cannot have some fun along the way. Within the design of the game worlds themselves, there are a lot of small details that make the levels unique. This has not stopped some modders making a round version of Spyro that many fans have fallen in love with.

Apart from making the original and reignited levels look fantastic, the plants can serve another purpose. For players that feel like causing a little harmless destruction, many pieces of foliage in the game can be burned with Spyro's flame breath. Some plants that are the most amusing to do this too are the cacti in any Peace Keepers level. They simply shake it off after players burn them.

9 Light The Fire

Spyro The Dragon Dark Hollow Lighting Fires

Dark Hollow is a level in the very first Spyro world, the Artisan world. Here, players wander through a rather calm but spooky level full of Gnorcs. Eventually, near the end of the map players will come upon a set of steps with two towers on either side of it.

At the base of the steps on either side are piles of firewood that are unlit. Players can charge over as Spyro and use his flame breath to light them up. This instantly brightens up the immediate area around the fires. Plus, it might appeal to players who need to burn things whilst playing as a dragon.

8 Cannon War

Spyro The Dragon Peace Keepers Cannon

Peace Keepers is the second world in the game and one that has a few little quirks to it that make it memorable. One of the best ones that some fans are yet to figure out is the cannon fight. In the world, there are Gnorcs dressed as soldiers and they fire cannons at the player if they run past.

However, once the gamer disposes of the Gnorcs they can take over the cannons. By standing at the base of the cannon and nudging it with Spyro's head, players can turn it in any direction they want. This means that they can engage in a cannon war with the other armed Gnorcs.

7 Flying Precisely

Spyro The Dragon Magic Crafters Flight Control

It is no secret that flying is one of the best features of Spyro (not including the flight levels that are notoriously irritating to many players). Many levels require you to perfect your jump and glide technique. However, sometimes overshooting the intended landing spot can result in Spyro drowning or falling off the edge of the world.

A helpful feature that not many know about is that the player can have more control over Spyro's flight than they think. If players feel they are going to go past their landing spot, they can pull back (down) on their left directional stick. This will cause Spyro to lean back, which gives the player more control over his flight. However, this can rapidly decrease his speed so you should make sure you're close to your intended spot first.

6 Cliff Town Cauldrons

Spyro The Dragon Peace Keepers Cliff Town Cauldron Gems

Cliff Town is a level in Peace Keepers. As many Spyro fans know, to be able to 100% complete a level, they need to rescue all the dragons, find the eggs (if there are any), and collect all of the gems. Some players struggled to find the rest of the gems in Cliff Town after charging around the map in circles for a long time.

Again, this is where Spyro's flame is important to master. There are giant enemies in red dresses that stand next to cauldrons in the level. Once Spyro has taken out these enemies, players should use his flame breath to light the fire under the cauldrons. After a brief wait, the cauldron will pop out a gem.

5 Sneaky Druid

Spyro The Dragon Magic Crafts Druid Wall

In the third world that you visit, Magic Crafters, there is an enemy Druid that uses their magic to raise and lower a wall. The Druid will wait until Spyro gets close to them, and, at the last second, raise the wall, causing Spyro to crash into it if he's charging. It is possible to get the Druid from behind after navigating up to the upper level of the world.

However, a few impatient fans have figured out that there is a quicker way to get him. Near the Druid is a huge wall, if players keep Spyro against that and walk around slowly until the enemy is in sight, they can charge at the last moment. If it has been timed right, they beat the magic wall and can flame him.

4 Big Bad Spiders

Spyro The Dragon High Caves Spider And Fairy Kiss

There is  level in Magic Crafters called High Caves. In this level, players get to grips with using supercharge ramps, which make Spyro's charge ability really powerful for a time. Now, in the High Caves, there is a point where you need to charge through caves filled with massive metal spiders. The initial game hint given by a dragon suggests using supercharge on them, but this can be tricky.

Instead, some players have found that if they turn back around to look at the cave after rescuing Ajax they will see a set of steps at the back. Players need to run up here, take out the druid then go up to the next steps to their right and repeat it. They will come out to a ledge with a fairy on it who will kiss Spyro and make his flame breath very strong for a limited time. This is a far easier way of taking out the spiders, as the powerful flame will beat them.

3 Magic Mischief

Spyro The Dragon Dream Weavers Magic Cannon

The Dream Weavers world is arguably a lesson for game developers in amazing open-world design.  In this world. magic and mystery is the theme. In the hub world itself, the enemies get shrunken and enlarged by someone shooting magic at them.

Initially, it is hard to tell where this is coming from, but after players navigate their way around the center of the map, they will find a trio of magic tornados. Riding these will help them reach a high center platform with a cannon on it. This is where the magic is coming from and Spyro can use this cannon to his own benefit — or just to cause mischief.

2 Wizards Duel

Spyro The Dragon Alpine Ridge Wizard Duel View

Alpine Ridge is a level in Magic Crafters with gliding as a main focus. After rescuing a dragon called Zane, players can look across to the left to see a Druid and a Wizard having a duel. There is no clear way for Spyro to make the glide from where he rescued Zane.

However, if players turn directly to their left, they will see a set of step-like platforms that they can use to climb to the top of the wall. From this wall, they can easily glide to the dueling area. This area is full of enemies but also full of valuable gems.

1 Skill Points

Spyro The Dragon Skill Points Menu And Spyro

In the re-ignited version of the first game, players can collect these skill points by doing different tasks within different levels. The skill points can be found in the guidebook menu and the player can choose to try to achieve these within the levels as they visit them. Some can be earned by perfectly defeating certain boss levels.

The player is rewarded with an extra life each time they collect a skill point. Once they've collected all of the skill points, they are rewarded with a two-part exclusive game gallery featuring concept art and in-game artwork.
