Although Death Stranding released in November of 2019, Norman Reedus and Hideo Kojima still look to have projects lined up together in the near future. In a recent interview with Wired, Reedus answered a variety of questions that appear on Google, including the grammatically incorrect, “Why Norman Reedus death stranding?” In the clip below, Reedus explains how he became involved with the project.
Reedus states that, “We did Death Stranding, which was a huge hit, and we’re in talks to do other stuff.” What exactly “other stuff” entails is wide open and the subject of speculation, but there are a few obvious ideas that would not come as too great of a surprise. DLC for Death Stranding is the first idea that comes to mind, as the game was a resounding success worldwide, and its story left much to be considered, with several venues that would be great for further development.
There may also be something bigger than DLC in store for the game in the form of a spinoff or even a full sequel, as Nicolas Winding Refn, who plays Heartman in Death Stranding, tweeted recently.
A New Silent Hill?
There is another possibility as well, one that is a long shot, but also the most exciting by far, and that is a new Silent Hill game. In 2015 there was a confirmed project that included Hideo Kojima, Norman Reedus, and master filmmaker Guillermo del Toro. The trailer below set the internet ablaze with what many hoped would be the next big installment in the series, until it all came crashing down.
Unfortunately, the project was scrapped following creative differences between the development team and Konami, resulting in Kojima leaving to begin work on his own, eventually leading to Death Stranding.
Five years later and with the success of Kojima’s work, we can always hope that whatever conflict ended the Silent Hill project have been mended to give fans a taste of the long-awaited sequel. This is a long shot since nothing official has been stated on Kojima resuming control of the franchise, but it also would make financial sense for Konami to swallow their pride in bring back a proven Kojima.
Beyond either Death Stranding DLC or a project relating to Silent Hill, Reedus might be involved in something completely new, as Kojima likely has a million ideas stewing and ready to be made into video games. Outside of the video game world, Reedus remains busy as a central figure on The Walking Dead playing Daryl Dixon, and it will be interesting to eventually see what he and Kojima have in store for the future.
