Hideo Kojima gave us a slight hint on what he's working on right now. According to the Death Stranding creator, he has to rewrite his year-old script due to the changed situation in the world, or his next project will not see the light of day.

Kojima shared his thoughts on Twitter, highlighting how different his emotions are now compared to 2020. "I'm reworking a project & script I wrote almost a year ago," he wrote. "The world situation, my environment, emotions last year are quite different now, so I can't put myself in the same world I was thinking of then." Additionally, the Japanese game designer explained that if he doesn't bring it to the present, it simply "won’t become a living thing."

Creating any piece of art is an incredibly personal endeavour, and game development is no different. If Kojima is in a different headspace now to what he was last year, it is understandable why he'd want to revisit his latest project and adapt it to fit his current state of mind more accurately.

While his message didn't reveal much about what the project was specifically, it's quite possible he is referring to the next major game from Kojima Productions after Death Stranding: Director's Cut. However, if the upcoming project still has no actual script, fans may still have to wait several years to see the game designer's next creation.

Kojima said he originally wrote a script almost a year ago, which means there could be another game in active development in his studio right now. According to a recent rumor, Kojima Products might be behind one of the upcoming Silent Hill games, which will be funded by Sony. In this case, Hideo Kojima will pair up with Konami for the first time in six years.

Another clue worth mentioning is that iconic creator might be interested in a potential Xbox game for Microsoft, using innovative cloud-based technologies. This also connects nicely with Kojima's earlier statement admitting he'd like to incorporate real-time elements into his future games, having things change for each player.

With all that work going on inside his studio, Hideo Kojima also managed to turn his attention to somewhat more offbeat projects — like a collaboration with French designer Jean-François Rey for Death Stranding-inspired glasses designs.
