My name is Barry Allen, and I am the Fastest Man Alive...

Okay, not really, but today we are going to be talking a lot about the fastest man alive, as well as all the other DC/CW heroes. With the recent announcement that all five DC shows on The CW would be renewed for new seasons, we thought it only appropriate to explore this vast multiverse of shows. From the speedsters of Central City to the Kryptonian hero of an alternate Earth and even a former billionaire heir who became a shadowy vigilante, the universe nicknamed "The Arrowverse" is filled with emotionally driven and fun-filled heroes, and even darker and creepier villains. From the first season of what was supposed to be a one-off show called Arrow to the race to end all races on The Flash, the time-traveling adventures of a misfit group on Legends of Tomorrow, a planet filled with alien threats and emotional family bonds on Supergirl, and the recently family-driven and socially relevant heroics of Black Lightning, the Arrowverse is one of the most successful franchises on television today.

Yet, the fandom of these shows and the multiverse as a whole have come together to bring some of the funniest and sometimes darkest memes that cross lines you would not expect. Whether that be company lines or emotional lines, these memes are going to have you laughing out loud and shaking your heads as we explore the twenty-five Arrowverse memes that are absolutely hilarious.

25 Family Ties

via Release MAMA

One of the big storylines introduced into season 2 of the show Arrow involved the parents of Thea Queen. Oliver's sister was always assumed to be the daughter of his parents, Robert and Moira Queen. However, as we learn in season 2, the nefarious Malcolm Merlyn was, in fact, his daughter, after a brief affair between the would-be collaborators led to Moira's surprise pregnancy. She kept the identity of her real father a secret, but as the season wore on and Malcolm returned from the land of the deceased, Thea learned her dark family secret and her character choices were influenced from that point on. In this meme, we see the hilarious way this was alluded to earlier in the series, when season 1 character Tommy Merlyn, the best friend of Oliver Queen and Thea's crush, says that he's not her brother. However, everyone knows this isn't the case.

24 My Name Is...

via Inverse

The heroics and adventures of the DC heroes have always been a pop culture highlight.

While the likes of Batman and Superman may have dominated the headlines for years, more recently we've seen characters like Wonder Woman, Aquaman, and The Flash, get the spotlight that they deserve.

However, the most active place to find these heroes is on The CW Arrowverse, and for those who are newcomers, you will be happy to see that each show usually begins with a narration by a main cast member (usually the main hero) who recounts who they are and what they're purpose is. This next meme hilariously showcases this part of the shows, by having the heroes stop for a cup of coffee, only to go into their long monologues, telling the barista who they are and what made them heroes, to begin with. No one asked for your life story, Oliver and Barry.

23 Speed Aging

via Twitter

The current season of the Flash has seen an increase in the more fun, comic book humor that The Flash as a character has been known to embrace. After spending months in the speed force, Barry returns with no memories of his time there but with a sense of weightlessness, as if he has no more guilt over his mistakes as The Flash from the previous seasons. Despite setbacks with the cunning Thinker, he's become a much more fun hero. However, his more fun activities outside of his job have resulted in some of the show's best humor. In this instance, he and best friend Cisco have gone to play laser tag, only to be called old by two children who beat them. The ironic part of this meme is that speedster can both travel through time and use their speed to increase their metabolism and living longer than most people.

22 Just A Phase

via QuirkyByte

One of the weirdest things to come out of season 3 of The Flash had to be the big reveal of Savitar's true identity. Spoiler alert: it was a time remanent of Barry Allen. His double was created to help defeat Savitar in the future, but after their win, the team no longer wanted him around. He became disillusioned with the hero game and decided to make himself into a speed god instead, becoming the very villain he was created to stop.

It's a strange and headache-inducing plot, but it was every comic book fan's dreams to see explored.

However, the funny thing about this meme is it shows the hilarious way the Savitar version of Barry is different from his heroic counterpart, The Flash. In it we see emo Tobey McGuire and the scowl inducing Ben Affleck turning Barry into an emo version of himself.

21 If The Suit Fits

via www.thepicta.com

In this next meme, we see a hilarious fake exchange between everyone's favorite tech whiz with a whole slew of good "vibes" (wink...wink...he's Vibe, get it?), Cisco Ramon and his Earth 2 friend Harry (Earth-2 Harrison Wells). In it, we see the hilarity of the suit design for Harry's daughter Jesse, who gained speedster abilities in season 2 during their fight with Zoom. In this meme, we see that Cisco designed her suit to look a whole lot like the villainous speedster for one episode, Trajectory. The self-destructive villain wore a similar red suit but didn't have the lightning bolt symbol that Jesse has. It turns out (in this meme) that Cisco thought Harry's daughter Jesse looked very attractive in Trajectory's suit. Harry then turns into the season 1, Earth-1 version of Harrison Wells, the disguised Eobard Thawne, aka Reverse-Flash. He then uses his speedster skills to end Cisco.

20 World Without Heroes

via Facebook

No, we're not talking about the horrific world of Earth-X from the latest Arrowverse crossover. Here we are talking about a world in which Kara Danvers is missing. Stepping away from Earth-1 and heading to National City, we come to the world of Supergirl. The titular character is shown having been rendered unconscious by a meta-human.

With no knowledge of the metahuman phenomena, Mon-El and Martian Manhunter take her to our Earth to get help from Team Flash.

In this meme, we see the hilariously flawed logic of this moment. In it, we see the Martian reassuring Kara's sister Alex that she'll be okay and that they will be too because all the heroes will be on Earth-1. This has to be sarcastic as heck as a world without Supergirl, her Daxomite boyfriend or the last son of Mars is one wrought with untold dangers.

19 A Helping Hand?

via Twitter

The big transformation in season three not only came with the reveal of Savitar but with the revelation that Caitlin had finally become her nefarious alter ego, Killer Frost. The anti-hero comic book character had been teased in season 2 when her Earth-2 doppelganger turned out to be the villain. However, after Barry created the Flashpoint timeline, Caitlin gained her abilities and despite her best efforts, couldn't control her alter ego from emerging. In this tense exchange, Killer Frost crosses a major line emotionally as she berates Barry. He offers her a helping hand to help her control her nature, but Frost wants nothing to do with him. She serves him up a cold dish of truth when she mentions all those people his actions have gotten injured or worse, lost their lives. Barry's guilt was a big part of his life in the first three seasons, and her words hit a strong chord with him.

18 So Many Emotions

via Pinterest

While the current season of The Flash is filled to the brim with humor and comic book goodness, the first few seasons of the show had a lot of tumultuous and emotional stories that impacted viewers week in and week out. From evil speedsters who threatened the lives of his friends and family to romantic relationships that always dissolved because they didn't live up to the one true romance he sought, Barry Allen sure had a lot of tearful and heartbreaking moments on the show.

This next meme does a great job of showcasing that emotional journey from the perspective of the viewer.

Not only do we as viewers come into any given situation on the show with a state of confusion, but then we become emotional and heartbroken with Barry, until our tears become tears of anger at the emotional turmoil the show puts us through.

17 Identity Crisis

via Amino Apps

As we talked about before, the Arrowverse shows do a lot of work to establish the heroes of these shows. So much so that every episode begins with a main hero introducing themselves and giving a recap of their journey thus far. Now, after nearly seven years on the air, you'd think the first star of the franchise Oliver Queen would be tired of this, especially since most of the world knows who Oliver Queen is now, but that's not the case.

In fact, in this next meme, we see that age and repetition have made the former billionaire heir very forgetful.

In a hilarious turn of events, Oliver is getting his love interest Felicity away from danger and begins to tell the story of who he is. However, he makes a mistake when he starts reciting his friend Barry's monologue from The Flash instead. Wrong hero Oliver!

16 Distant Cousin

via facebook.com

One of the cool things about the Arrowverse is that some of the actors are already well versed in the world of superheroes. In fact, one actor, in particular, has a history with DC Comics, playing the man of steel himself, Superman. That actor is Brandon Routh, the man who plays Ray Palmer, aka The Atom, on Legends of Tomorrow. While he plays a nerdy scientist and billionaire genius on the show, his first foray into the world of comic book acting came when he played Superman in the film Superman Returns. While that film didn't pan out, his success as Ray Palmer is undeniable. However, this next meme does a hilarious job of name dropping his previous superhero role, as we see Ray meet Supergirl in the first big Arrowverse crossover event, Invasion. He name drops that she looks like his cousin, which in the comics Supergirl is the cousin of Superman. See what he did there?

15 What's Wrong With Your Face?

via Inverse

The actors of the Arrowverse are some of the best in the business. The way they are able to become these larger than life heroes while still maintaining that emotional core and humanity that connects the audience to their characters is a fantastic feat in itself.

However, one of the funniest aspects of the universe that we see play out in this meme is that some characters are less visual with their emotions than others.

While Barry Allen and Kara Danvers both show their emotions pretty clearly, the ever stoic Oliver Queen has a face made of stone, never revealing what he's feeling or thinking at any given moment. That's because in the DC television universe he is essentially the Batman of the group, who is notorious for being mission oriented and never revealing his true thoughts or feelings. As the master strategist, this makes sense for Oliver.

14 Literal Names

via QuirkyByte

One of the strongest and coolest new characters to come to the Arrowverse this past year has to be Black Lightning. The titular hero of the new DC show focuses on a man named Jefferson Pierce, a retired superhero and school principal trying to keep his daughters and the community safe when a notorious gang called The 100 starts to terrorize the area. When his daughters' lives hang in the balance, he comes out of retirement to be Black Lightning once more and save his family and stop the man leading this gang into his city. While there is a lot more to the story than that, this show has already proven to be a great story-driven world with fantastic characters. As shown in this hilarious meme, we see Jefferson explain how he came up with his quite literal superhero name, and how he suggested Aquaman do the same.

13 Motorcycle Appeal

via Scoop.it

Finding the right person for you is never easy. Especially when you are growing up, the process of dating and being in relationships can be quite messy and filled with heartbreak. As a parent or guardian, it's always difficult to watch those you love and care for going through this heartbreak and experiencing the tumultuous road of love that you yourself have been on. That's why this meme is so hilarious. In it, we see a scene from what looks like the show Gilmore Girls, in which a woman is adamant that if the younger woman is going to throw her life away that it better be for someone on a motorcycle. Then we see Oliver Queen on his motorcycle. Oliver is always being hailed as a bad boy of sorts. With an air of danger and secrets about him, the season one version of the character is not someone you would bring home to mom.

12 All Grown Up

via Inverse

Another cool aspect of the Arrowverse is that some of the actors have worked together before on other shows. One such example of this is Melissa Benoist, who plays Supergirl, and Grant Gustin, who plays The Flash. Each of these actors appeared on the hit show Glee on FOX. The two actors at that point in their careers were very young and looked like a couple of kids. However, there must be something about becoming heroes on a superhero show, because they now look like mature grown-ups who have grown into the people they were always meant to be. That's at least the vibe you get when you look at this next meme. In it, we see an older picture of the two actors from Glee when they were young, and it looks like a Freshman photo. However, the current photo from their shows looks more like a senior portrait.

11 Heroic Journey

via Niadd

One thing that both Marvel and DC Comics have in common is the origin stories of several of their heroes. Both Iron Man and Batman were billionaires who faced tragedy and become heroes using their wealth. Thor and Wonder Woman are mythological warriors from Greek and Norse mythology who use their natural, almost "godlike" abilities to become heroes. And then there are those heroes who were selfish and then became heroic after facing a near loss of life event.

This meme perfectly sums up two heroes with very similar stories.

There's, of course, our very own Oliver Queen of the Arrowverse, who survived a boat crash on his father's yacht and endured years of pain on an island before coming home and becoming the Arrow. Then there's Danny Rand, a Marvel character who survived a plane crash and trained with monks to become the legendary Iron Fist, returning to his parent's company and inheriting billions.

10 Cold Never Bothered Her...

via Pinterest

The first season of Legends of Tomorrow included the fan favorite character Leonard Snart, aka Captain Cold. The Flash villain turned anti-hero turned hero was a thief who used a cold gun to freeze his way to a life of crime. He worked with fellow thief turned legend and current main cast member Rory, aka Heatwave. The two joined the team and became part of something bigger than themselves. Before Leonard's fate was revealed in the season finale, he and Sarah Lance, aka White Canary, become closer than the other team members, engaging in a romance that defied fans expectations. While the romance didn't last, it showed the more human side of both of these characters. However, this meme does a hilarious job of highlighting Leonard's other aspect of his character, and that's his obsession with the cold. He repeats a line from the hit Disney film Frozen, which immediately makes me lol.

9 Multiverse Problems

via quirkybyte.com

One of the things that The Flash introduced to the Arrowverse was the concept of a multiverse. This concept explained that there are multiple universes that are similar to our own, but with either subtle or not so subtle differences.

The world of Arrow, The Flash, and Legends of Tomorrow, all take place on Earth-1, while the other shows take place on alternate Earths.

Some fans were very confused by the change of the Earths, especially when established characters had their doppelgangers from other Earth's introduced, such as Black Siren, who was the Earth-2 evil version of Laurel Lance, aka Black Canary. This next meme makes fun of that confusing change of characters, as we see our Earth-1 Oliver and Barry in their costumes, only to travel to another Earth and see their heroic roles have reversed. I think imagining these two characters playing the opposite hero would be too strange to handle.

8 Reference Game

via Pinterest

While a lot of the Arrowverse shows use easter eggs and pop culture references, the show that uses this the most is Legends of Tomorrow. A show that explores various eras of time and has a full roster of legendary actors playing these roles, it's easy to see what would make a show use so many references. Take for instance the actor Wentworth Miller. He plays Leonard Snart in the first season of the show. Yet, he's also known for his iconic role on the former FOX show, Prison Break. Well, in this meme, we see what happens when the show makes a reference to this when Snart tells the crew that this isn't his first "prison break." It's a funny moment on the show and we even get a fun Avengers reference here as Captain America, the man out of time, understands the Prison Break reference himself.

7 Legends: Civil War

via Pinterest

One of the big stories that was explored in season 1 of Legends of Tomorrow was the rift that formed between Rory and Snart. Snart started to take on a much more heroic role on the team, feeling a special sense of pride in becoming more of a hero than his father ever could be.

However, Rory took much longer to catch on to the role of hero.

He was a thief through and through, and his passion for fire was connected to a complex childhood where he watched his family burn in a house fire he started. This led the two friends to become enemies for a brief time, which is what this meme is alluding to. We see the infamous meme of the Marvel's Civil War storyline, with Snart telling Rory that the team are his friends, and Rory telling him that he was his friend too before their rift formed. It's a funny yet dark meme, to say the least.

6 The OG Time Master

via Pinterest

One aspect of the show's story at the beginning of Legends of Tomorrow was the team leader, Rip Hunter. Rip was a time master, an agent of the legendary time masters who protected time itself. He went against his orders and formed the legends after the evil Vandal Savage ended the lives of his wife and son. His story became the driving point for the first season, his mission of vengeance leading a heroic team of misfits to stop an immortal being of immense power.

However, like many shows, this one always began with a drawn-out monologue.

Most of the main cast took turns introducing the show and the show's story, but we all became well aware of the legendary Rip Hunter's monologues. His British accent and personality shone through in every scene he had, to the point where anything we read from the show is always in his iconic voice.
