Recently, Dragon Ball Super brought down its curtain, marking more than thirty years since Dragon Ball's original run. The influence of Akira Toriyama's manga cannot be denied. The franchise is one of the best-selling in history and the anime served as an entry point into the medium for a sea of people. Prior to Crunchyroll and streaming, fans had to turn to Toonami and other channels for their anime fix. Alongside films like Akira and Ghost in the ShellDragon Ball Z demonstrated there was more to cartoons than just Nickelodeon, Warner Bros, and Disney.

Few protagonists are as iconic as Goku. Over the course of three official series and one Dragon Ball GT, the Saiyan bested dozens of memorable villains and regularly found a way to bring laughter into the lives of the franchise's audience. Alas, a legendary main character hardly equates to a great anime; thankfully, Goku's quest is far from lonely. Whether turning rivals into companions or fathering, in the loosest sense of the word, the next generation; Kakarot regularly demanded the attention of other colorful characters. Vegeta, Gohan, and Frieza served just as vital of a role in crafting Toriyama's version of Journey to the West.

Dragon Ball's presence is everlasting and, whether out of love or hatred, countless creators have spun their own take on the anime and its lore. Here are 25 hilarious Dragon Ball comics that push Saiyans over 9000!

25 Goku And Vegeta Take On The Marvel Universe

Via 9gag.com/juhodunder

Looks like Vegeta's overconfidence is rubbing off on Goku. That is not to say the Saiyans stand no chance of overcoming these overwhelming odds, but they would be in for a losing battle. 99% of Marvel's gallery would barely last a second against Kakarot and the Prince, but the remaining one percent is the real danger. At full smash, Hulk should be able to stand his ground against the Saiyans, and Thor would do the same. Obviously, the Avengers are far from the strongest characters in the Marvel Universe. If up against the Beholder orOne-Above-All, defeat would be inevitable for Toriyama's heroes. Even if that were the case, there is no doubt in our minds that Goku and Vegeta would still accept the challenge.

24 Dragon Ball GO

Via teamfourstar.com

Art pieces and literature are far from the only ways that fans can show their appreciation for a particular series or movie. The rise of YouTube launched the golden age of abridged content, as anyone with a microphone and a bit of confidence has the necessary equipment to redub a beloved franchise. TeamFourStar's Dragon Ball Z Abridged is an ongoing series and one of the best in the business.

Their Krillin is legendary!

Presented in comic form, this scene hails from the TeamFourStar's adaptation of Toriyama's anime, with Nappa stealing the show. Just a small nitpick, but it is spelled Chiaotzu. Incredibly, Pokémon has yet to depart from our TV screens, while Nintendo's video game series seems destined to last forever. Honestly, Chiaotzu would fit right in on a Pokédex.

23 All Roads Lead To Disney

Via abbadon82.deviantart.com

With blonde hair that goes on for days, one can hardly blame Vegeta for confusing Rapunzel with the legendary Super Saiyan. Say what you want about Tangled's princess, but she has more depth than Broly. If nothing else, she is not driven insane by the mere mention of someone's name. The whole cast seems to be a fan of Disney, with even Roshi making the trip to the cinema. Apparently, Vegeta has yet to fully grasp the concept of fiction — or, Tangled is the Saiyan's first ever movie. Honestly, there are way worse introductions to the art of film. Abbadon82's aesthetic is something else and it is fascinating to see a mix of Western and Eastern animation. In this alternate universe, Bulma has her hands full with the Prince of Saiyans.

22 Instant Embarrassment

Via zornsama.deviantart.com

Instant transmission works by either picturing the destination or sensing someone else's ki. Goku is completely in the dark about the person or place's current state. What if he instant transmissions into a spot already taken by someone else?

Well, due to the Saiyan's ability to sense ki, Goku should be able to avoid such a messy situation. On the other hand, Zornsama's comic is within the realm of possibility. Honestly, we are slightly surprised this joke was never used in an episode of Dragon Ball Z or Dragon Ball Super. It is the finer details, like Goku turning Super Saiyan, that really sell the author's punchline. Vegeta and Kakarot's reactions are just perfect! In this case, Goku really should have called before paying the Prince a visit.

21 One Punch Fail

Via YouTube.com (The King)

Written by One and illustrated By Yusuke Murata, One Punch Man took the anime and manga world by storm when it arrived on the scene. Satirizing classic shounen series like Dragon Ball Z and Yu Yu Hakusho, Saitama is a hero for fun who defeats, as the name implies, every enemy with a single punch. Unlike Goku or Vegeta, who have to strive to constantly improve, One Punch Man's protagonist is introduced as the strongest person in existence. In spite of his overwhelming power, Saitama's life is engulfed by boredom and a yearning to feel emotionally invested in a confrontation. Once the shock of failing to knock Vegeta out with one hit subsides, Saitama is likely to be absolutely thrilled that he found an opponent capable of withstanding his punch.

20 Frieza's True Motives Came To Light

Via turbotastique.deviantart.com

Okay, that explains why Frieza did what he did. It does not improve matters; if anything, it just makes the villain even worse. In the series, Frieza is a spoiled dictator who yearns for ultimate power, so his path of destruction is driven by mere privilege. In this version, Frieza willingly wipes out a planet to avoid being inconvenienced.

You know, Saiyans tend to misplace their tails...

Frieza is so overwhelmingly powerful that an entire race of warriors fears his mere presence. Turbotastique points out that Frieza had little reason to decommission Planet Vegeta, as Saiyans make for useful soldiers. Alas, Frieza wanted to strut his stuff and show that nobody stands a chance against his power. Dragon Ball Super slightly redeemed Frieza, although there is no saving this monster!

19 Planning Ahead (Is Not Permitted)

Via KnowYourMeme.com

Frankly, why is Yamcha invited to this meeting? Going by Goku's Super Saiyan transformation and Vegeta's presence, it is safe to assume this takes place during the Cell Saga. Even if Gohan has to stay home and study, there should be better candidates than Yamcha. At the very least, Krillin is a more capable fighter and maintained some degree of relevance to the plot. By the start of Dragon Ball Z, the desert bandit was nothing more than a joke character. Well, from that perspective, this meme is using Yamcha to his full potential. In Dragon Ball Z, Vegeta would be the only one to really object to Yamcha's suggestion. Piccolo and, to a lesser extent, Goku should be fine with it.

18 Bulma's Holiday Plans

Via lynnember.deviantart.com

With the exception of Goku, Vegeta owns the highest power level out of the Z fighters. The Saiyan Prince experienced quite a challenging childhood, but he slowly learned to appreciate the finer things in life. By the end of Dragon Ball Super, Vegeta is more human than Goku. Rather than existing to merely get stronger, Vegeta is driven by love for Bulma and his children. While the Saiyan might do most of the heavy lifting, everyone knows who really wears the pants in the family! Lynnember dropped in during Christmas to see what Bulma and company were up to. Unsurprisingly, Vegeta and Trunks wanted to train, but that is not on the cards for this particular day. To be fair, Planet Vegeta presumably did not celebrate Christmas, so the holiday means less than nothing to the Prince.

17 Yamcha, This Is What Happens When You Skip Out On Grinding!

Via knowyourmeme.com

Dragon Ball kept things on Earth. Even if Yamcha was far from the strongest fighter in the series, he could hold his own against most Earthlings. Goku and Krillin had his number, but the former desert bandit regularly put himself in the line of fire to protect those important to him.

Well, Bulma mostly...

Dragon Ball Z upped the scale and left Yamcha behind. A decent martial artist on our planet is nothing more than an insect when measured against the vast universe. In spite of his obvious status as an underdog, Yamcha refused to give up! Whether facing Cell or a Saiyaman, the human continuously tried to help out the Z fighters. The results tend to be predictable.

16 Vegeta's Pride Reaches New Heights

Via dbzbabe.deviantart.com

The author's tribute to the black sheep in the Dragon Ball family acts as a reminder that Dragon Ball GT had a couple of bright spots. In the early '90s, Toriyama's property was beyond huge, so Toei Animation wanted to continue the series after the studio adapted the final chapters of the manga.

In retrospect, was it a mistake?

To be frank, Dragon Ball GT is a pretty mediocre anime. Is it the worst thing ever? No, not even close! Even if there are worse series out there, Dragon Ball GT failed to live up to the hype. Ignoring the pacing issues and complete disregard for the secondary characters, Toei's follow-up to Toriyama's manga introduced the awesome Super Saiyan 4. Even if the form rarely felt as powerful as it should have, the design remains extremely cool!

15 Piccolo Messed With The Wrong Moon

Via alleg1000.deviantart.com

Reuploaded by Alleg1000, Alison's webpage seems to have disappeared from the internet. As this awesome tribute to '90s anime probably came to fruition more than a couple of years ago, it is not too surprising that the author's homepage has changed. Luckily, her hilarious creation survived the transition process. As the princess of the Moon Kingdom, Sailor Moon's Serena Tsukino can transform into the leader of the Sailor Soldiers. As the schoolgirl's powers are directly tied to the natural satellite, Piccolo's destructive decision would hardly endear him to the beloved protagonist. Even if the Namekian should be more than capable of withstanding an attack by Serena, there is just something terrifying about seeing an angry Sailor Soldier. Piccolo should just apologize!

14 A Dragon Ball Christmas

Via nekoni.deviantart.com

Now, this is a crossover for the ages! Charles Dickens' books and Akira Toriyama's manga might not target the same audience, but they are both iconic in their own way. Over the years, A Christmas Carol has received a thousand film adaptations and Dragon Ball Z would hardly be the weirdest of the bunch.

If Bugs Bunny and Fred Flinstone can do it, why not Goku?

As part of Nekoni's Frame of Fusion series, this panel sees Gotenks playing a bit of a prank on Scrooge. A fusion of Trunks and Goten, one of the kid's abilities involves spitting out ghosts. Due to fusion's restrictions, Gotenks' ruse would not last the night, but this comic's premise keeps in line with the character's mischievous personality.

13 Always A Phone Call Away

Via ellensama.deviantart.com

Goku and Chi-Chi were the first to tie the knot, but they are far from Dragon Ball's leading couple. The two barely interact and Goku treats Chi-Chi more like a friend than a wife. When it comes to Vegeta and Bulma, they seem to genuinely care about each other. Chi-Chi is merely a footnote in Goku's biography, while Bulma marks a huge turning point in the Prince's life. Even if Vegeta's meeting with Kakarot instigated his personality change, Bulma was the one that really taught the Saiyan how to care about other people. Without her, Vegeta would still be striving to overcame Goku. Dragon Ball Super established that the Prince is no longer driven by such a superficial reason, and he is willing to give up his life for the sake of his family.

12 Goku Travels With His Own Interpreter

Via nei-ning.deviantart.com

Inspired by episode 27 of TeamFourStar's Dragon Ball Z AbridgedNei-Ning paid tribute to the hilarious series with a quick comic rendition of one of their scenes. In the anime, Goku says it correct, but where is the fun in that? A line of dialogue this stupid could easily fall flat on its face or came across as fake, but TeamFourStar more than makes it work. In the abridged version, Kakarot is somewhat of an idiot and this type of misunderstanding is not beyond the scope of reason. By the way, the correction is uttered by Vegeta, who has been in a losing battle against Frieza. If Nei-Ning's comic drew a chuckle out of you, we seriously recommend checking out TeamFourStar's comedy series. It is a must for fans of the anime!

Via risachantag.deviantart.com

Irrespective of someone's preference, there is no doubt that Dragon Ball greatly influenced the likes of Naruto and One Piece. When talking about the manga with the highest quality, there is definitely an argument to be made for Masashi Kishimoto or Eiichiro Oda's series, but Toriyama changed the shounen genre.

Whether it was for the better is up to you!

Risachantag's portfolio is packed with awesome tributes to anime and Western properties, with Dragon Ball receiving quite a bit of love. This drawing points out the visual similarities between Naruto and Goku. To be fair, Naruto's secondary cast includes dozens of aesthetically unique characters with memorable personalities. Goku will always loom over the likes of Naruto, simply because the Saiyan was the first to hit the scene.

10 Fatherhood Is Vegeta's Greatest Challenge

Via pallottili.deviantart.com

While Goku took a more laissez-faire approach to parenting, Vegeta has been relatively involved in Trunks and Bulla's upbringing. Which is only fair, as the Saiyan hardly brings in any money. When he is not training, Vegeta can be found eating or complaining about Kakarot. Bulma is the breadwinner, so Vegeta must find another way to contribute to the household. Pallottili paints papa Vegeta out on a walk with his young daughter. As they enjoy nature and each other's company, Bulla drops a doozy on her father! Vegeta might be prideful, but the dude is easily embarrassed. In the company of others, he prefers to show as little emotion as feasible. Does Planet Vegeta have its own version of the birds and the bees?

9 Vegetto's Thanksgiving Feast

Via nekoni.deviantart.com

Vegetto, or Vegito, is the outcome of a Potara fusion between Goku and Vegeta. As the Saiyans are on equal footing, when fused, neither one of their personalities really takes charge. As such, Vegetto is a completely different person from Goku or Vegeta.

So, Vegito is their baby.

Nekoni sees Vegetto in a battle to the end against a turkey. The livestock clearly comprehends that it is Thanksgiving and everything that entails. As a result, it refuses to go down without a fight. For some reason, this version of Vegetto has a tail, which should not be the case since both Goku and Vegeta lack theirs. The only explanation is that Nekoni's comic is set during Dragon Ball GT. On the other hand, we might just be overanalyzing it.

8 Goku, I Am Your Father (Duh!)

Via schu-was-here.deviantart.com

When it came to Bardock's design, Dragon Ball hardly tried to push the envelope. Minus a scar, Goku is literally the spitting image of his father. Considering that Vegeta shares a fair deal in common with his own dad, maybe Saiyan genes simply work that way. Schu-was-here sprinkled some George Lucas over her Dragon Ball Z, with Bardock and Goku recreating the legendary scene from Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back. In this version, the only person surprised by the revelation is Kakarot. In the franchise, Bardock's time ended long before Goku reached maturity, so video game adaptations and fan comics are the closest these two are ever going to get to a legitimate reunion. Taking into account Kakarot's last family meeting, this might be for the best!

7 When The Pupil Becomes The Master

Via joker-delarge.deviantart.com

Created by Joker-DeLarge, this panel could easily slip into Akira Toriyama's manga. As the story progressed and Son Goku aged, the mangaka's trademark sense of humor slowly gave way to the action. Just to be clear, that should not be taken as a criticism, since Dragon Ball Z's fights consistently lived up to the hype; still, the earlier chapters incorporated a metric ton of hilarious moments.

The voice of a generation.

Son Goku was always rather naive, but Dragon Ball's love for adventure allowed for a higher variety of comical situations. Vegeta and Goku's interactions can be quite funny, but there is very little room for jokes when the world is on the line. Joker-DeLarge's panel harbors back to a simpler time when Roshi trained Goku and Krillin.

6 Gohan's Training Falls Short

Via shinigamisgem.deviantart.com

Uploaded by shinigamisgem, this page hails from a Dragon Ball Z fan comic called Cha-La. Besides the official series, Toriyama's manga spawned hundreds of doujinshi, which is kind of like the official term for self-published fan fiction. Actually, that is not completely accurate, as many doujinshi are not based on any preexisting property; still, they are generally the work of amateurs or people striving to get into the industry. As one of the most popular properties in the medium's history, Dragon Ball has served as inspiration for countless of hopeful mangaka. Gohan spent a great deal of his childhood training under the tutelage of Piccolo, who stressed the importance of moving out of the way to avoid getting hit by something. In Gohan's defense, dodging is a forgotten art.
