Final Fantasy X, for a long time, was my second favorite game in the series. The best was, of course, Final Fantasy VII, which was also the first game I played in the series. As for Final Fantasy X, well, it wasn’t my second let me tell you. It was, however, one of the first two games I bought with my PS2 with the other being the first Jak and Daxter adventure. Both games were mind-blowing to me. Not just because they were goods games, but also because the graphics were astounding compared to the earlier generation of the PlayStation and Nintendo 64. Plus there was voice acting. Holy cow!

I actually started playing Final Fantasy X a year prior to me getting it for myself. It took awhile to save up enough money to get a PS2 so instead I played a lot of games at my friend’s house. She was pretty set on consoles and games from her parents being the only child and all. I even bought my own memory card so that when the time came I would be ready. I made it as far as the Calm Lands before I was able to get a PS2 of my own. Point is I still adore it, but it’s definitely a lot lower on my list then it used to be. It’s now number four as I officially ranked it right here on TheGamer. As much as I love it I also have some issues and these twenty-five comics are the perfect aids.

25 Excessive Summons

Via Dorkly

Julia Lepetit made this comic for Dorkly. The Summons in Final Fantasy X has to be my favorite in the series. Not in style points, but mechanics. It’s so cool that you get to take over the reigns of your Summons like they’re full on party members. That said it could get tedious. You have to summon them, watch an animation, and then choose how to fight. I wish there was an option to just summon them for one spell otherwise it’s sort of excessive especially against a weak enemy like an Ahriman. I agree with Yuna’s sentiments though. Those things just suck and should be burned in the cruelest way possible. Turn me to stone will you; well two can play at this game.

24 Put a Lulu On It

Via nikkibuu DeviantArt

Nikkibuu on DeviantArt made this comic. Here’s another panel that I’m a little lost on. At its core it’s a play on Superman. You know like when the citizens of Metropolis all point in the air and say a bunch of random things before the final person screams that it’s Superman. We all know the drill by now. Why Lulu though?

Is she a bird underneath those belts?

I guess her robe sleeves are kind of baggy so one might confuse them for wings. The joke has to be something in that ball bark of reasoning. Maybe it’s that she’s so top heavy because of her you know what that it would be impossible for to fly. Yeah guys, I’m really stumped on this one, but then again I’m sure some of you out there are laughing your butts off.

23 Mammary Overload

Via lightfootcomics DeviantArt

Lightfootcomics DeviantArt made this comic. There’s something else that bothered me about Lulu’s design. She lives on a tropical island right? Well why is she wearing thick robes with belts tied around her? Wouldn’t that be hot? Then there’s Lulu’s pregnancy in Final Fantasy X-2. Look. I know some women don’t have much of a baby bump when they are pregnant, but come on. Couldn’t you dress Lulu in something else instead of reusing the same assets?

I’d like to sleep on those.

How hard would it have been to give her another costume that would showcase her belly and make us believe she was pregnant? The other joke, as you can see by Rikku’s appearance, is that she has three outfits! Again, seriously, why couldn’t you change Lulu if Rikku got three?

22 Speak To Me

Via Dorkly

Julia Lepetit and Caldwell Tanner made this comic for Dorkly. Here’s another amazing one from Dorkly entitled If Video Game Characters Spoke Like Their Gamers. It’s a brilliant idea for a strip. Other excerpts from the panel include Street Fighter, Dark Souls, Silent Hill 2, and so on. It’s not so much poking at fans in general, but the YouTube community of content creators, or Twitch streamers out there that like to overact to everything.

Hey there nice behemoth person!

That’s the sort of thing that gets you subscribers apparently. Not well thought out reviews of games, or retrospectives, or stuff that generally takes a lot of time to produce. Ahem, small rant from a disgruntled YouTuber here. Anyway simply put hearing Auron say that line in the comic is priceless.

21 50 Cries Of Tidus

Via JFRteam DeviantArt

JFRteam on DeviantArt made this comic. Guys are plagued with sacrificing their precious time for the needs of their girlfriends, or wife all the time. I’m talking about the dreaded chick flick obligation. It’s an unwritten rule that most need to follow, but sometimes you’ll meet a special girl who absolutely hates chick flicks. If you do, better not let that one go. Anyway Yuna never felt like the type of girl that would be into a movie like 50 Shades of Grey. In actuality Yuna is kind of a dull person. She’s about as likable as Aeris, which is to say not much at all. That’s okay though because Tidus isn’t the easiest to like either. In this way I’m glad he has to sit through the tortures of a glorified Twilight fan faction.

20 CroftPlay

Via lightfootcomics DeviantArt

Lightfootcomics DeviantArt made this comic. On a similar note to Final Fantasy X-2, just what exactly is Yuna trying to emulate with that costume? It’s totally going for a Tomb Raider look from the braided hair to the short shorts to the long boots to the dual pistols. It all screams hey I’m cosplaying as an RPG version of Lara Croft. That’s why my title is so funny. Instead of cosplay I wrote CroftPlay. Get it? Okay enough patting myself on the back even though that’s probably the funniest pun in this whole article. Now truthfully her Dress Sphere for that is called a Gunner. Paine and Rikku can also become one, but their designs aren’t really calling back to Tomb Raider at all. Yuna is the only one into CroftPlay.

19 Much Nope

Via Creative Uncut

Tim Carillet made this comic for Creative Uncut. Has anyone ever completely collected the Al Bhed language books? It seemed like a near impossible task to tackle the first time around. I mean it was a cool idea to hide a secret language in a Final Fantasy game, but it also took a lot away from it. That is to say, it was confusing when you couldn’t understand the language, but at the very least most of the conversations in Al Bhed weren’t crucial. Here’s another question. Do you think there is anyone nerdy enough who has learned Al Bhed and speaks it in real life to pick up chicks like in this comic? This is a nearly infinite universe so the simple answer is probably. Oh right and “huba” translates to “nope.”

18 Daddy Problems

Via RevanRayWan DeviantArt

RevanRayWan on DeviantArt made this comic. Hmm, I’m not exactly sure what this strip is saying, but let me try. At its core, I think the point is everyone tries to boss Tidus around. No, it’s more like everyone is either infatuated with Tidus, or they’re trying to teach him a lesson. The girls want to be with him and the guys need to guide him along.

What a baby.

The second part is that Tidus is a crybaby. I meant what I what I said in the comic previous. Tidus is hard to like and may be the worst protagonist out of the thirteen core Final Fantasy games. Yes I know there are fifteen, but in Final Fantasy XI and Final Fantasy XIV you make your own character so that can hardly count.

17 Now That’s How You Use A Phoenix Down

Via HenLP DeviantArt

HenLP on DeviantArt made this comic. Call me cheap, but I used this cheat all the time in Final Fantasy games. If you come across an undead enemy, or boss chances are you can damage it with healing magic. Better yet some die instantly if you use a Phoenix Down since the opposite of life is destruction. That doesn’t mean you can throw the item at them and it’ll work instantaneously. Sometimes you need to throw a few Phoenix Downs out before it takes. It works most of the time, but you just have to cross your fingers and hope for the best. It may be an easy way to cheese the game, but hey, the programmers put it in so I’m going to use it.

16 Psychobabble

Via Duelling Analogs

Greg Grondin made this comic for Dueling Analogs. Every Final Fantasy protagonist has to have something they could discuss with a psychologist. Cloud hears voices in his head. Squall at least looks like he’d cut himself since he’s overbearingly emo. Zidane has a tail like he’s from Dragon Ball Z. Then there is the Bruce Willis of Final fantasy X aka Tidus. His reveal at the end to have been dead the whole time was unbelievably stupid. Like how is that possible to not know you’re dead. He slept and ate didn’t he? It’s not like there were hints like in The Sixth Sense although that film has its potholes too. The joke is funny in this panel, but it’s also infuriating to remember. It just makes Tidus that much worse as a character.

15 Growing Paines

Via Creative Uncut

Tim Carillet made this comic for Creative Uncut. Final Fantasy X-2 was a silly spinoff, but one that I thoroughly enjoyed at the time. It hit me at the right age where I was not only in love with any RPG I could play, but beautiful looking anime, or video game girls. You’re telling me I can dress up bodacious babes in skimpy outfits? Where do I sign up?

Are you actually a man?

Yuna became a bit more enjoyable and Rikku becomes hotter than ever. Paine was always a weird add on for me though. I mean she’s basically dressed like Lulu albeit a bit more punk rock instead of emo gothic. Why didn’t they just stick her in the third lead role instead? It was a little weird is all.

14 Why No Rikku?

Via lightfootcomics DeviantArt

Lightfootcomics DeviantArt made this comic. You are three for three Lightfootcomics. I can’t believe Rikku was never allowed to play Blitzball. She’s one of three characters in your party that can hold their breath long enough to fight underwater. Isn’t that enough of a qualification to let her in? It’s not like girls aren’t allowed to play either.

The U stands for underappreciated.

There are tons of women you can have on the Besaid Aurochs and there are a lot of women on the other teams as well. Seems a little fishy to me, but I guess she never seemed interested in Blitzball during the course of the story. Unrelated to this discussion, I do like how Rikku is spelled on her uniform especially where the “U” falls on her nether region.

13 Graphical Hype

Via Dorkly

Julia Lepetit and Andrew Bridgman made this comic for Dorkly. Okay, let’s get out of the DeviantArt and fan territory and get into some legitimate art. This panel is just an excerpt from a bigger strip on Dorkly called Everyone’s Reactions To Graphics Over The Ages. It mentions reactions to other games like Star Fox, Super Mario 64, and so on. The point is that with each new generation, our minds are blown by the graphical capabilities of not only video games, but also the systems they’re played on. It’s always something along the lines of it’ll never get better than this and look where we are now. I myself recall thinking the same thing about Final Fantasy X. It truly was an incredible experience back in the early 2000s.

12 Massage Envy

Via Creative Uncut

Tim Carillet made this comic for Creative Uncut. Another thing I loved about Final Fantasy X-2 was Leblanc. For as meager as the outfits got for Yuna, Rikku, and Paine, they were never as revealing as Leblanc’s slip she wore throughout the entire adventure. Not only that, but there’s that infamous massage mini game toward the latter half of the game, which I brought up in my 25 Times Final fantasy Went Too Far article. It's kind of one of those things that belongs in a game reserved for Grand Theft Auto, or something ridiculous like that. At the time I wasn’t complaining because again I was an impressionable teenager. The Internet wasn’t what it was back then as in the content I was looking for wasn’t free if you catch my drift.

11 Best Scene Ever

Via KeyshaKitty DeviantArt

KeyshaKitty on DeviantArt made this comic. Ah yes, the infamous laughing scene in Final Fantasy X. This has to be the breaking point for some people regarding the acting. It’s so cheesy and over-the-top that fans have even gone so far as to replace sound effects for Tidus laughing. It’s a meme to end all memes. Don’t believe me? You can get the scoop here.

I’m rolling the deep with guffaws.

There’s really not much else to say. In a way, this scene is touching and it’s supposed to be over the top. Tidus is teaching Yuna how to let go and relax a little even though her mission is uber serious. It's touching, but also incredibly silly too. It’ll go down as one of the most famous scenes in Final Fantasy history.

10 The Beginning Of The End

Via Dorkly

Julia Lepetit and Tristan Cooper made this comic for Dorkly. For our last Dorkly entry, I chose Final Fantasy: Beginning vs End. The strip is exactly as it sounds. It showcases how things start out simply in these games and then become incredible later on in some form, or another. It goes through the story of Final Fantasy VII, the companions and bosses of Final Fantasy VI, and so on.

Blitzball for life, fool.

In regards to Final Fantasy X’s cutscenes, I can relate. In fact when the HD port came out for Final Fantasy X I virtually skipped all of the cutscenes. They were so long and drawn out with awkward pauses. I just wanted to actually play Blitzball aka the best mini game ever. Again, prove me wrong Internet.

9 Draw!

Via Bowie-Spawan DeviantArt

Bowie-Spawan DeviantArt made this comic. I’m sorry, Bowie-Spawan, but why did you draw this. I mean why did you pit the lamest Final Fantasy villain next to Sephiroth. Okay Seymour isn’t the worst antagonist in the series, but he definitely has the dumbest name. What kind of terror does Seymour induce in anyone? It just makes me think of Little Shop of Horrors. Sephiroth, on the other hand, is one of the greatest, or at the very least he’s one of the greatest for fans. Girls sure do love his looks and long silver hair. It drives them wild. Either way the punchline is great. You expect them to duel, but it’s just a game of cards. As Tidus would say, “Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha Ha…”

8 Little Big Horn

Via HenLP DeviantArt

HenLP on DeviantArt made this comic. Time to complain a little more about Final Fanatic X characters. I wasn’t really a fan of Kimahri either, or the entire Ronso tribe. I was starting to learn what Furries were around this time and the thought of Yuna being protected by a big cat person made me think about what kind of stories “excited” girls were writing.

Rule 34 at work.

You have to imagine a dirtier comic exists with this same type of joke. You know like Yuna asks about Kimahri’s horn and its symbolism toward manhood and Kimahri is like that’s not the only symbol I have to prove how much of a man I am. Then out comes his massive wing dang doodle. Try and prove me wrong Internet.

7 Final Fantasy Pokémon

Via Typthis DeviantArt

Typthis on DeviantArt made this comic. Not to be cruel, but I can’t say I’m a fan of the art in this trip. That said the sentiment rings true with me at least. If we’re ranking Final Fantasy games based on the hardness of optional bosses and or quests, Final Fantasy X has to be at the top of the list.

Gotta catch ‘em all!

If you catch monsters for that guy in the Calm Lands then he will in turn mutate a bunch of monsters together and create massive ones for you to take on, which are essentially just stronger versions of older monsters albeit with different colors. They are beyond difficult and take some seriously grinding in the Sphere Grid. That and a whole lot of Summons are needed.

6 10,000 Reasons To Perish

Via KatoruKireiiUina DeviantArt

KatoruKireiiUina on DeviantArt made this comic. Now here’s something I can really sink my teeth into. The Sanubia Sands on Bikanel Island is one of the worst moments in Final Fantasy X in that it’s confusing to navigate. I guess that’s sort of the point though right? Getting lost in a real life desert wouldn’t be a walk in the park either. To me it just felt overdone especially with the monsters present like the Sand Worm. That thing was a beast to take down since it could get rid of one of your party members. Later on you could fight a giant Cactuar, which is another insane optional boss fight. Seriously that 10,000 Needles attack is no joke. The AP bonus is worth it though.
