G.I. Joe, more than meets the eye!

That's right guys. For anyone who grew up with G.I. Joe action figures, watched the old cartoons, or even are a fan of the more recent films, you are not going to want to miss this hilarious look at the G.I. Joe franchise. The global team of action heroes, that stands as a line of defense against the evil Cobra Commander and his forces, has been a huge franchise for decades. Starting out as a comic book in the 1940's and later translating into a popular line of toys at Hasbro around the same time as the Transformers, the franchise has become as iconic as the comic book company that created the original comics, Marvel Comics.

The action and story of the franchise has definitely led to the rise in popularity amongst the fans out there. However, there are also a lot of silly, strange, and downright hilarious moments and phrases from the franchise that make us all laugh out loud. These moments tickle the funny bone and keep the action-packed franchise a little more lighthearted.

So get ready to laugh as today we are going to explore a rare component of the G.I. Joe franchise and that is the hilarious memes the internet has given up courtesy of the franchise. Filled with lots of laughs and humor galore, we are going to showcase the twenty-five most hilarious G.I. Joe memes you could ever hope to find on the internet. Go Joe!

25 Half The Battle

via Know Your Meme

Knowing is half the battle. Any G.I. Joe fan out there has heard this line time and time again. It's about as iconic as the cartoons themselves.

It was the big moment where kids were taught a valuable lesson within the context of the show.

However, this meme takes things a step further, showing a realistic look at what the group has to do in order to save the day. Despite the warm-hearted messages and life lessons imparted in the cartoon and comic, the realization dawns on you that while knowing is only half the battle, the other half is all about violence. The G.I. Joe crew would not be able to stop Cobra Commander or his forces if it weren't for the use of extreme force and violence. It goes to show that the cartoons and toys really did instill a sense of violence into our children's culture.

24 G.I. Joe Pride

via The Robot's Voice

To say that there is a large fan base for the G.I. Joe franchise would be a huge understatement. The franchise has held strong since the 40's, and largely represents a sense of pride as the original intent of the show was to showcase U.S. pride. Yes, the franchise has been an American staple for decades. However, the level of pride fans have in this franchise has not always been viewed very prominently. In fact, the story that brought the G.I. Joe's to life is often considered to be a part of geek culture as it debuted as a comic book by Marvel Comics. Therefore people have assumed for years that anything related to geek culture was made up of middle-aged men who lived in their parent's basement, which has led to lots of widespread criticism of the franchise and culture as a whole. While this is way off base, this meme is hilarious nonetheless.

23 One For The Team

via Imgflip

Continuing to play on the whole "knowing is half the battle" thing, this next meme decides to take that iconic line and twist it into a weird turn of phrase.

We've all seen the cartoons.

We know the story of the Joes is all about fighting Cobra Commander and sometimes these fights are all about sacrifice and hardships. So it's no surprise when one character will tell another that sometimes a sacrifice is demanded in order to get a mission accomplished. It's a sad fact of any military-style mission, and yet this turn of phrase in this next meme comes across as more of a grown-up line than anything else. When he says "sometimes you have to take one for the team," the way he's placing his hand on the guy's shoulder and looking at him makes it seem like he's pushing this guy to perform some grown-up scenarios out. Very creepy...

22 Wrong Message

via Imgflip

The Joes have always been around to hand out life lessons to children since the very first cartoons premiered. Their guidance and wisdom helped instill a sense of justice and morality into not only the show, but those kids watching the show, to begin with. However, what would have happened had the Joes handed out some very poorly thought out advice to these random kids that always seemed to be in danger and in the thick of the action? In this next meme, we see the Joes telling kids how to lessen a hangover when tackling drinking. Rather than preventing the kid from drinking period, he tells the kid how to lessen just how powerful the hangover will become once he starts drinking. Don't worry though, he finishes the sentiment off by telling the kid that knowing is half the battle. The other half is apparently substance abuse.

21 Emotional Commander

via Meme Center

The vilest and evilest person in the G.I. Joe franchise is none other than Cobra Commander. The steel chromed commander of a vast and powerful armed force bent on taking over the world, Cobra Commander is known for lacking any real set of emotions and being dedicated solely to evil plans. However, there is one person in real life that people tend to think is lacking in any real set of emotions. That person is none other than actress Kristen Stewart. The star of the hit teen film series The Twilight Saga and an actress with a slew of hit indie films under her belt, the actress is usually targeted for her supposed lack of emotions. Well, this next meme plays on this assumption of her lack of emotions by insisting that the leader known as Cobra Commander has more emotions than her. Wow, that's brutal man, lol.

20 The Drop-In

via Imgflip

This next meme is super funny to think about. So often in the comics, cartoons and more, someone on team G.I. Joe runs into the unsuspecting soldiers of Cobra. The soldiers are everywhere and have a nasty habit of showing up at the worst possible moments for the Joes. This meme does a hilarious job of showing what happens when what I believe to be Scarlet drops in during an episode of the cartoon on an unsuspecting Cobra soldier. In the meme we see that the soldier is both delighted to see the beautiful agent drop in on him, only to realize she's probably going to kick his behind the second that she lands in the room. This makes it both the best and worst day of his life. It also highlights the obvious differences between male and female characters in the G.I. Joe franchise as a whole.

19 Where'd You Go?

via The Animated Times

Being incognito is kind of a staple of any action-packed spy-esque thriller. Putting on disguises to infiltrate an enemies facilities is something that kind of comes with the territory.

It can be either really fun and stupid or it can be a real shock when the character reveals themselves.

However, this next meme does a really hilarious job of highlighting what happens when someone does a really horrible and silly job of creating a disguise, and what happens when an even more ignorant person fails to recognize a really iconic character in their ridiculous disguise. I'm talking about this meme, where we see Cobra Commander very visibly walking around in a trench coat, and yet this random character can't seem to distinguish who this villain truly is. Is it the sunglasses that are throwing him off? It's almost like Superman hiding in plain sight using only a pair of glasses. It baffles the mind.

18 Necessary Delay?

via Quickmeme

One of the more modern film industries ideas is to make all of their blockbuster films 3-D. That's right, any superhero, action or even animated film that comes out in a given year tend to garner a 3-D version of the same film as well.

While the novelty of that film device can be cool, overusing the 3-D element can be a little much.

Sometimes, however, the 3-D filming style is added when a film's plot or direction are not living up to the par of the studio's expectations, and the studio hopes a 3-D element will help drive audiences to a possibly mediocre film. That's what fans think happened when the studio decided to delay G.I. Joe Retaliation. The film did not receive a great reception from audiences, who felt it didn't live up to the franchise's high ideals. As the meme hilariously points out, perhaps they should have added dimension to the film's script.

17 Previous Work Experience

via Navy Memes

One of the stars of the newer G.I. Joe films is none other than Channing Tatum. The A-List Hollywood actor tackled the role of Duke in the film franchise, stepping into the role of protagonist in the first film before Dwayne Johnson came in for the film's sequel. Although he helped bring the star power to the first film, this next meme hilariously showcases the fact that Channing Tatum is not just an action film star. In fact, arguably his most successful franchise is nowhere near action-packed, but rather his starring role in the film franchise Magic Mike. Based loosely on his life, the film explores the life of a male grown-up dancer and the struggles he undergoes. Having become a cult classic in recent years, the meme does a very funny job of bringing that aspect of his career to light in the midst of an action sequence in the G.I. Joe sequel.

16 He Can Talk

via The Robot's Voice

One of the more popular memes to go around the internet in recent years comes from Dwayne Johnson. A scene from his film Race to Witch Mountain, a sequel set 30 years after the original film Escape To Witch Mountain. The film has a scene that has the action film star whirling around to face someone in the back seat of a car. Well, in this meme, that film is combined with the G.I. Joe universe in a hilarious way. The character of Snake Eyes, a warrior ninja commando who took a vow of silence, make an appearance in the back seat of his car that Dwayne Johnson is driving.

Now it's funny because Johnson starred in the film sequel G.I. Joe Retaliation.

It's also funny because in the meme Snake Eyes breaks his vow of silence, and the shocked reaction of Johnson is just too funny to resist laughing at.

15 Desperate Times

via Colourless Opinions

One of the biggest shocks and disappointments in the G.I. Joe film franchise had to be the direction of Channing Tatum's character Duke. In G.I. Joe Retaliation, the former star of the franchise found himself being relegated to a minor recurring role. Spoiler alert for anyone who hasn't seen the second film, but from this meme, it's pretty clear that Duke was eliminated in the early part of the film. Now from a G.I. Joe fandom and story standpoint, it makes little to no sense that the film's star would be offed like that. Perhaps it was the increased star power of Dwayne Johnson that led to his demise. Or perhaps Channing Tatum wasn't available for a lengthy blockbuster filming schedule. Some fans, however, believe the actor was only in the film at all because of a lack of hit films, and so called the move desperate.

14 Full House

via The Animated Times

This next meme really did have me laughing at the franchise villain. Cobra Commander is not one to be trifled with. A ruthless villain, someone like him is not really expected to be a gracious loser. In fact, I'd venture to say people would actively avoid playing any sort of game with this monstrous villain because of his short temper and malicious nature. So in this meme, we see that Cobra Commander has taken up the long art of playing cards.

However, he begins to ponder why it is he is consistently losing at the games he's playing.

Well, this meme hilariously showcases that the incredibly shiny helmet that adorns his face is so clean that the cards he's holding are reflected in the helmet's surface, and most likely his opponents are wisely playing off of his hands. My question is who would be bold enough to willingly beat the villain?

13 Losers

via HissTank.com

One of the big characteristics of the G.I. Joe franchise and in fact something that is featured in most classic hero versus villain stories is the consistency of the villain losing his gambit. No matter the plot or how difficult the journey for the heroes, the villain's plot to take over the world always fails. This is the case for Cobra Commander as well. No matter how ingenious his plans and no matter how well executed they are, his plans are always foiled by the work of the G.I. Joes. So it shouldn't come as a shock that any strategy set out by the criminal and his organization would eventually fail. That's what this meme hilariously showcases as we see Cobra Commander, in all his original villainous glory, holding a board game in his arms. The case is made that Cobra Commander is so bad at his job that he couldn't even win a simple game.

12 G.I. Pony

via Derpibooru

The last thing any fan of the G.I. Joe franchise would ever believe is that one of the Joes is, in fact, a fan of My Little Pony. However, in this next hilarious meme, we see what would happen if those two franchises had a very weird crossover event. In the top of the meme we see a scene from My Little Pony, with one of the creatures wearing some sort of military outfit.

The next part of the meme showcases the Joe, who looks at the pony and declares it theirs.

No, this is hilarious on so many levels. First of all, why is this cute little pony dressing up in an old military bomber jacket? It's very odd. Secondly, the Joes having any sort of interest in the cuddly little pony is just too weird and hilarious to think about.

11 Image Problem

via Imgur

As we have established, the face (no pun intended) of Cobra is none other than the villain Cobra Commander. The maniacal criminal mastermind harbors a deep seated hatred for the Joes and what they represent, and the entire career of this organization has been all about taking over the world and destroying the Joes in the process. With that kind of reputation it stands to reason his image to the world is very much one of being a monster and a fiend. However, this meme does a wonderful and funny job of creating an example of how several different groups of people view him. Most see the monstrous and evil commander for who he perceives him to be. Others see the bad CGI version of him from the films. Others, however, see his true form, and in this meme it's a hilarious cosplay version of the character that does little to strike fear into the hearts of men.

10 Recruitment

via Pinterest

We all in the United States know the classic army recruiting tool. Posters with the iconic "Uncle Sam" in his patriotic outfit pointing a finger at you and asking what you have done to serve your country, before leading into a sales pitch on why you should join the U.S. Army. Well this has always been a very iconic and symbolic recruitment tactic for the United States, but in this next meme we see what happens when the evil and villainous Cobra takes a jab at the icon. In it, we see Cobra Commander has replaced Uncle Sam, and as he points at you he asks if you are good at taking orders and not dying. This shows the general lack of care for your well being the evil organization truly has for you, while hilariously showing off just how evil Cobra Commander is and why his fighting force is nothing compared to the Joes.

9 Evil Never Looked So Good

via Motifake

It's very rare where fans of a franchise like G.I. Joe would actually care or rule in favor of a villain character. They are the villain after all, and normally their evil deeds are enough to get the fandom against them. However, some villains tend to become very appealing to the fans. One such character in this franchise is the Baroness. Whether it's her good looks or her action star abilities, the character has quickly become a fan favorite in the franchise. Her character was played by the incredible Sienna Miller in the film G.I. Joe Rise of the Cobra, where she was the sister of Cobra Commander and became a spy. Whether it was her looks or her gripping story I'm not sure, but fans look at this meme and often agree that she is one of the best reasons to watch this film.

8 Bag Man

via ImaDoctor96 - DeviantArt

The work military types have to do in order to protect the world can be not only daunting but dirty and tedious work. This extends to the fictional universe of G.I. Joe. The work these soldiers do is not pleasant and often involves moving bodies and doing some very unsavory things.

Well in this next meme we see a very funny way that one of the Joes goes about this dirty work.

You see often when taking a suspect or moving a body, soldiers end up putting the person in a bag of some sort. This usually leads to a funny exchange where the Joes unzip the bag and the suspect comes stumbling out all disheveled. Well in this meme, we see the Joes grabbing a bag and telling the suspect that they are going to have to go into an itty bitty bag, whether he likes it or not.

7 Disney Joes

via Motifake

As silly and out there as the G.I. Joe universe can get, especially in the film franchise, can you even begin to imagine what would have happened had Disney acquired the rights to G.I. Joe? Disney has made quite a name for itself over the years. From their own original films and classics to recently acquiring properties like Marvel, Star Wars, and the highly talked about FOX merger that is set to bring the X-Men universe into the Marvel universe, Disney is quickly becoming the preeminent entertainment powerhouse. Therefore, it stands to reason some fans of other properties have feared and wondered what a Disney acquisition would do to their beloved franchise. In this meme, we hilariously see what the G.I. Joe characters would look like by a Disney artist, and muses that if director Jerry Bruckheimer had gotten a hold of the franchise it would become just as silly as Pirates of the Caribbean.

6 Fight Club

via The Animated Times

The fandoms of certain properties can become very protective of their favorite shows, movies or comics. Their love and passion for the work they are following is so strong that they can get competitive with other fandoms, who believe their favorite projects are much better and more valuable than theirs.

And so fighting between fandoms occurs regularly.

From the Marvel vs DC comics debate to Star Wars fans squabbling with Star Trek fans, this battle of the fandoms has been around for decades. However, this next meme hilariously showcases what happens when two toys turned films become rivals in the fandoms. You see, it turns out that Transformers fans believe their franchise is much better than the G.I. Joe universe, and vice versa. Both were toys for Hasbro and spawned their own comic books, films, and more. This meme hilariously shows Batman fighting Robin over which property is better.
