When it comes critically-acclaimed fantasy epics, The Lord Of The Rings franchise has some of the biggest and most creative fans compared to other titles in the category. J.R.R. Tolkien's brilliant mind gave birth to such an imaginative and colorful world after all. Of course, Peter Jackson's visually-stunning The Lord Of The Rings film adaptation only helped propel the popularity of the series to astronomical proportions.

The fantasy epic was beautifully translated onto the silver screen which earned itself hundreds of awards in just three films. Given the series' massive success, it's only natural that fans would want to expand Tolkien's world in their own ways as well. Fans love placing their own twists to the The Lord Of The Rings lore and what better way to add some color the story's dark tone than to insert some humor into it.

With that said, fans have come up with some ingeniously hilarious comic strips that are either disturbingly true or cleverly comedic. This ranges from odd yet funny logic in the film adaptation's plot to some distinct sidesplitting emphasis on the series' iconic characters. There's something about the humor in these The Lord Of The Rings parodies that never grows old.

Perhaps it's because fans don't expect to find humor in scenes that were supposed to be serious. It could also be because some parodies have so much blatant truth in them that they become ridiculous to a point of being undeniably humorous. Here are 19 The Lord Of The Rings comic strip parodies that could make any fan either chortle subtly or just laugh out loudly.

19 Isildur The Notorious Rebel

via Beecher-arts.tumblr.com

Aragorn didn't always had a stellar reputation prior to being crowned king but his old man Isildur was downright notorious, in the eyes of Elrond at least. The scene where Isildur refused to listen to Elrond was one of the most significant parts of the film. However, Isildur's impish tendencies makes for some good comedy fodder and this comic strip takes his rebellious nature to ridiculous proportions.

Don't count on Isildur to return any borrowed jewelry either.

Asking Isildur for anything, not even some measly gravy, doesn't seem to be a good idea regardless if he's being influenced by the evil powers of the ring or not. Unfortunately for Elrond, he had to learn this the hard way. Perhaps Elrond should have used reverse psychology on Isildur for him to achieve a more favorable result.

18 Gandalf The Grey's Famous Last Words

via bitstrips.com/YouTube.com(lotrTV)

Gandalf's popular quote has sparked numerous debate within the The Lord Of The Rings fan community. Some fans swore that they could still hear Gandalf saying “run, you fools.” However, others are convinced that he said “fly, you fools” instead. While some have explained that Gandalf meant to say the same thing, that didn't stop others from poking fun of the wizard's infamous wording.

Sometimes Gandalf forgets that he's the only one who has eagles.

This hilarious comic strip encapsulates that argument in a way that would make even Gandalf himself chuckle. After all, Gandalf certainly knows a lot about flying in general given that he has an entire fleet of majestic winged beings at his disposal. We have to admit though that even the title of “Gandalf, the lord of the flies” definitely has a ring to it.

17 Thou Shalt Not Pass My Offer

Gandalf has a plethora of memorable quotes and we can never have too much of them given his epic line delivery. Gandalf's venture into the mines of Moria gave birth to some iconic moments and of course, to some unforgettable lines as well. Another one that is always embedded into the hearts of fans is Gandalf's iconic “You shall not pass” line.

There had been dozens of variations and comical interpretations of this famous line that were made by the fans themselves.

However, using Gandalf's famous quote in everyday conversation is the best way to keep it alive and this comic strip shows the best way to do just that. Nothing says “this is an offer that you can't refuse” better than blurting out the line “YOU SHALL NOT PASS!” to an unsuspecting recipient.

16 Gandalf's Dwarf Logic

via xkcd..com

There are times when we fail to see even the most obvious of details but fortunately, Gandalf can bring light to such times. Gandalf's escapades into the mines of Moria have unearthed an intriguing mystery which is the disappearance of its dwarven inhabitants. Some might contest that the dwarves could have met their doom after an encounter with the monstrous Balrog.

However, the Gandalf in this comic prefers to point out the obvious instead.

Gandalf's humorous response does have some logical reasoning behind it given that dwarves barely reach half of Gandalf's towering stature. The short-tempered dwarves were already vertically challenged but adding their stubbornness into the equation is a recipe for disaster, especially in the labyrinth that is the mines of Moria. Good work pointing that out, professor Gandalf!

15 The Fellowship Of One

via extrafabulouscomics.com

The first entry of the The Lord Of The Rings saga titled The Fellowship of the Ring has set the tone for the trilogy by introducing some of the series' vital moments. One of these key moments is when the fellowship was initially established. This is the scene where the main protagonists have devoted themselves to their common goal by symbolically offering their weapons as a sign of their loyalty and devotion.

It's as if their chances of success weren't bad enough as it is.

While this was a serious and inspiring moment in the film, it's really tempting to turn it into comedy gold by taking its portrayal in a literal sense. In this comic, the heroes literally gave their weapons to Frodo so that the lone hobbit can finish their mission all by himself! Poor hobbit will likely meet his end early on but at least he'll go out in style wearing all that gear.

14 Hobbits Make Good Bait

via commonnerd.com

The epic tale of The Lord Of The Rings has so many interesting and colorful characters in it but the fan-favorite wizard Gandalf certainly stands out from the rest. A lot of fans argue what Gandalf's true intentions actually are and it's hard to discern too given his mysterious nature. However, it's hard not to question his sinister motives when he employed the aid of four hapless and clueless hobbits and sent them straight to their death sentences.

Yup, employing three harmless and expendable hobbits sounds about right.

Of course, Gandalf would probably give a long and detailed lecture on the purity and agility of hobbits that make them the ideal members of their team. Perhaps it's also because he puts a lot of faith in their abilities and chances of survival. Regardless, this comic serves as a hilarious take on what's considered as the point of the story.

13 Fab Thranduil

We all know Thranduil for his cold demeanor and of course, his fabulous long-flowing blonde hair. It's only fitting for an elf leader like Thranduil to flaunt his superior elvish physique but nobody, not even his son Legolas, could've guessed his aspirations of becoming an Instagram superstar! Thranduil wants to remind everyone where Legolas got his fabulous looks and photogenic elvish genes.

Now that's what you call a fabulous elfie!

The detail in this comic is hilariously bonkers as it even shows Thranduil's ridiculous hashtag usage along with the fact that only Aragorn and Arwen liked his post. Thranduil could still give his son some pointers on embracing his fabulous tendencies. Unfortunately for Legolas, being an Instagram superstar doesn't even seem to be in his bucket list.

12 Aragorn Is A Savage

The way Aragorn handled Eowyn's unrequited love was like giving a hard slap on the face of the poor Rohan shieldmaiden. In this comic panel, Aragorn was portrayed as being oblivious to his own romantic advances the whole time. It's quite ironic for Aragorn to keep Eowyn's hopes up only to crush her heart into pieces in the end.

What makes this piece even more funny is that it doesn't stray that far from the actual scene. If the dramatic moment was a lot less subtle in the film, this is exactly how it would look like to both Aragorn's friends as well as the audience.

With that said, it's no wonder Eowyn demolished the notorious Witch-King. Eowyn's pent-up frustration needs to be re-directed somewhere after all.

11 Live Long Like Elrond

via choppic.deviantart.com

Elrond is one of the most iconic and authoritative figures n the The Lord Of The Rings lore. Fans could instantly recognize Elrond from a mile away given his trademark looks which somehow resemble a permanent scowl on his face.

Perhaps it's also because Elrond bears a striking resemblance to Spock from Star Trek.

Comics like this one give a comical yet amusing nod to fan theory that suggests Elrond is actually a visitor from outer space instead of a Middle-earth local. While this was done in jest, we have to admit that it's not that surprising if Elrond was an intergalactic alien given that he already speaks in a mystifying and exotic manner. In fact, some of Elrond's retorts have rendered even the wise and all-knowing Gandalf speechless.

10 Mount Doom Won't Be Necessary

via SMBC-comics.com

What makes Frodo's trek to Mount Doom such an impossible feat is that he had to personally bring the ring all the way there. What if Frodo didn't even had to go on a suicidal mission just to dispose of the ring? This comic treads on that funny notion of simply disposing the ring in a more practical and safe method.

Hobbits are prone to having such questionable hygiene and who knows how long have they not been brushing their teeth? Gandalf himself wouldn't even dare to touch Frodo's box that's filled with revolting, putrid-smelling teeth gunk. It's safe to say that Sauron won't even bother looking for his ring knowing that its rancid smell won't be wearing off his fingers for a quite a long time.

9 Orcs For Hire

via dorkly.com

When the epic The Lord Of The Rings trilogy came to a conclusion, fans are left with the lingering question of “what happens next?” What will the heroes do now that evil no longer threatens their lives? What will become of the remaining villains once peace has been restored?

While we may not ascertain the answer to these questions, we can at least have an idea of what the remaining orcs will be up to after the war is over in this fan made realization. The tables have turned on the orcs who now face the horrors of starving. It's a shame that their terrifying looks and combat skills won't nab them a position in the corporate world though.

However, they could make it as convention mascots, if they could refrain from flaying their employers, that is.

8 When Three Is Just Not Enough

It's quite an understatement to say that there's been a couple of high quality renditions of The Lord Of The Rings copies that were catered towards consumers. Ever since the conception of TV sets with higher resolution displays and devices that could play shows in higher definition, the Lord Of The Rings franchise also upped their quality game to keep up with modern standards.

Both the The Lord Of The Rings franchise and The Hobbit trilogy have since been released to a multitude of platforms in various forms boasting newly-improved visuals. This means that fans have a lot of films on their plate and re-visiting their favorite fantasy epic could lead them to a long and arduous path, something that Gollum is well acquainted with.

And yes, we will keep watching. No matter who shows up. Go away.

7 Gandalf The Selfish & Greedy

via dorkly.com

It's puzzling why Gandalf decided to take the long and perilous route to the Misty Mountains knowing well that he could just summon ginormous eagles to instantly take his party there. This hilarious The Hobbit illustration explains why Gandalf is so persistent in traveling purely on foot. One could make the argument that Gandalf might just be athletic.

However, Gandalf apparently has a Pokéwalker problem and is determined to nab experience points for his virtual monsters.

There's a good reason why Gandalf decided to take on the Balrog all by his lonesome, to hog all the experience points to himself, of course. It seems that this sly wizard was even willing to risk the safety of his friends for the sake of fulfilling his own selfish needs, shame on you Gandalf!

6 Watch Out For Green Wizards

via themetapicture.com

In the first The Lord Of The Rings film, there was one scene that certainly raised some eyebrows due to its literally standout portrayal of Legolas. The venture of The Fellowship through Caradhras wasn't an easy task as it showed the whole group struggling to wade through thick snow. While the whole crew struggled to get across the snow, Legolas on the other hand just gracefully and effortlessly walked right past them.

Ah, revenge truly is a dish best served icy cold.

Legolas can certainly be a showoff even when he's not doing it on purpose. The comic above depicts exactly what Gandalf might have been thinking while Legolas was figuratively walking all over them. Based on Gandalf's expression in this comic, it's safe to say that he definitely enjoyed doing it.

5 Gandalf Grey & The Seven Dwarves

via The Hobbit mashup comic by momofukuu.deviantart.com/gyaldhart.deviantart.com

Coming up with alternate universes to popular stories are fun but seeing two separate fantasy tales do a crossover mashup is even better. What would happen if the world of Snow White gets mixed up with the world of The Hobbit? The comic panel above shows the answer to this question with its accurate rendition.

The question now is, who got the better of the trade-off?

Indeed, the dwarves from both The Hobbit and Snow White are going to have distinctly different yet equally intriguing experiences when this happens. Snow White now has a small army of sturdy dwarves but they can potentially turn on her and prove hazardous to her well-being. On the other hand, Gandalf is now responsible for seven unique dwarves yet all of them are generally harmless and are seemingly incompetent.

4 What Have I Done?

via dorkly.com

The fantasy world of The Lord Of The Rings is teeming with endless possibilities so it's only fitting for fans to expand its story on their own. It's a shame that the film ended so abruptly without showing fans an alternate ending featuring Sauron. Luckily for us, someone made a comic that would show what would happen had Sauron not have been defeated.

Sauron might have been building an army of orcs but little did he know that he would soon have to come face-to-face with these vile-looking creatures.

Even Sauron himself would certainly chuckle after seeing this alternate ending which shows that his plan sounded way better on paper. Sauron might be persistent in getting back his all-powerful ring but it looks like he doesn't know how to handle what's to come once he gets it.

3 Gandalf's Cheap Trick

via nerdragecomic.com

Gandalf has been called many things. He has been referred to as Gandalf the Grey, Gandalf the White, Stormcrow and Greyhame among others. What Gandalf doesn't want to be called however, is a conjurer of cheap tricks. This hilarious comic shows the irony of Gandalf's angry protest on being referred to as such.

So much for pulling a fast one, Gandalf the cheap trickster.

When Bilbo doubted Gandalf's judgement, the wizard took offense and went into a fit of rage as his menacing dark figure literally overshadowed the petrified hobbit. While Gandalf's change in demeanor was frightening in itself, his intimidation effect sort of contradicted what he was trying to say. For all we know, Bilbo might have seen a flashlight protruding from out of Gandalf's robes but was too afraid to point it out!

2 Gandalf Always Knows Best

There are many things in the The Hobbit film adaptation that makes fans question a lot of things. Why is Tauriel so attached to a dwarf she barely even knows? Why is Thranduil giving out a dramatic speech all of a sudden? Why is Legolas even in the movie? It's a good thing someone made a comic that addressed those questions, in particular the fab Elf King.

Nothing to see here, just Thranduil being Thranduil as usual.

Perhaps this was too harsh for the indelicate, foreign dwarves, but the golden Elvish king is above everything and everyone else. You don't have to like it. You just have to applaud when he shows up on his giant silver Battle Elk.

It's not complicated.

1 Dwarven Massage

via hibbary.deviantart.com

Legolas and Gimli never really had a smooth relationship in the film and most of their encounters with each other were either disdainful or competitive. This is due to the fact that dwarves and elves don't usually get along with each other. However in this comic, they're the best of buds as Legolas is seen pleasing Gimli by giving him his trademark Elvish massage.

Who would've guessed that Gimli was quite the masseuse?

What Legolas didn't anticipate is that Gimli is willing to return the favor by giving him a massage of his own using his rough Dwarvish hands. Legolas' priceless expression says it all as he declines Gimli's offer but the dwar insists leading us to believe that Legolas is going to be in a world of pain. What we didn't know is that Gimli is even better at giving massages than Legolas!
