The Pokémon franchise shows no signs of slowing down anytime soon and it only continues to expand with each passing year. The amount of people playing the games and watching the anime has only continued to increase as time goes on. With a game series as far-reaching and as iconic as Pokémon has been since the release of the first game in February 1996, it’s easy to see why so many have created various works of art related to the series. They have created anything and everything, from awesome game mods, to breathtaking fan art, and everything in between. That same community has allowed the game we all know and love to thrive and has even helped the company make improvements within the games themselves.

With regular input, the games always seem to be evolving and improving in many aspects. While some individuals might not be too pleased with the way some of the Pokémon games have gone, overall they are pleased with them. They have added new elements and made the games a lot more dynamic than when they were first introduced and they are sure to continue to improve as time goes on. Though a lot of fans tend to voice their opinions on the games through reviews and through posting on message boards, there are artists who like express their concerns in a different way. Rather than simply post their views of the games, they create comics which point out the things in Pokémon that make the least amount of sense. This allows them to make a joke about an error within the game while also bringing it to the game developers’ attention.

30  Seeing Is Believing

One thing that you will learn rather quickly playing the Pokémon games is that there is a lot of information about each and every creature within the universe. For the most part, what you see visually is expressed within that information in some shape or form, but other times the game can really leave you scratching your head.

What you think you know about a particular Pokémon’s abilities might not be true at all.

As it turns out, there are a lot of things within the Pokémon universe that just don’t make any sense at all. You would think that a creature that has wings would be able to fly without having to learn anything, but as we find out with Pidgey as well as many others, that simply isn’t the case.

29 Unexpected Obstacles

Via: deviantart.com(Toast-Mage)

Alright, I get it, every game needs a certain level of difficulty to it in order for things to be interesting, but when it comes to these games, in particular, there are barriers that just make no sense at all. Sure, having to be a certain level or having to learn a certain move makes a lot of sense because it urges you to progress, but having a roadblock?

Just think about that for a second, not only do you have many Pokémon that could help you get over said roadblock but in many cases, you could just simply walk around. That isn’t the real issue though; the real issue is why it’s even there in the first place. Even as you progress through the game and go back the road will still be blocked. You would think after all that time that it would finally be removed.

28 Not Thinking Things Through

Via: deviantart.com(Gabasonian)

There were a lot of things that I didn’t pick up on when I was playing the games as a kid and one of them had to do with the enormous amount of money that all the trainers had. I mean, these are kids after all and yet they have all this money not only to raise and provide for their own Pokémon but to also pay to enter tournaments or pay you off when you win against them.

It makes you wonder if these random trainers ever run out of money.

This is no doubt what helped to inspire the wonderful logic comic created by Gabasonian that we see here. If you think about it, your constant battling with these random trainers could eventually make them go broke and effectively end their aspirations at the same time.

27 Left Behind

Via: deviantart.com(Gabasonian)

I was happy when I finally had a Pokémon that knew how to surf. I spent a lot of time searching the water and trying to find hidden secrets. It was a new part of the world to explore and it expanded the universe in a whole new way. Though this was indeed the case, when it came time to leave the water on the back of the same Pokémon something really strange seemed to happen.

If you were to select a Pokémon that knew fly as well as surf you would simply take off and leave with the surfing animation still in the background. This makes sense given that you could fly away at any time, but you would think that there would be a transition between the two. Instead, the surfing animation is still there as you fly away. This was fixed in the later versions of the games though, as there were cutscenes showing the process.

26 A Complicated Process

Via: deviantart.com(SaccharoKirby)

You would think that the process of capturing and storing would be an easy one given the technology that you have to work with, but you would be wrong. As you know from playing the games, you have to get the Pokémon to the point that it is weakened, but not to the point that it has fainted or else you won’t be able to catch it.

The reason fainted Pokémon can’t be captured is never really explained.

It would make sense that in that state one could be captured, but that simply isn’t the case. There are many theories out there about why you are not about to capture one in a fainted state and I think the most plausible one has to do with the fact that it is too unstable to be transferred into energy and restored within the Poké Ball.

25 A Well Executed Strategy

When it comes to any game, there are many reasons that characters miss a target and it usually makes sense. In the case of Pokémon, one could point to confusion or a weakened state for reasons why one might miss, but there are other times within the game where such an occurrence makes no sense at all.

Sure, it seems reasonable for an opponent to be able to dodge an attack when it is awake, but I never understood how you could miss if your opponent is asleep. You would think that this would be the perfect state to render an attack and you would also think that it would be likely to be more effective. Instead, the game has you miss an attack on a stationary target.

24 What Really Goes On

In nature, animals often avoid situations where they know that there isn’t likely to be a good outcome. They weigh their options and choose the best course of action, often retreating if necessary to preserve their way of life. In the Pokémon universe, this doesn’t seem to apply though and as a result, some rather odd things happen.

After reaching a high level you are still attacked by rather low-level creatures.

Like the Pokémon trainer with only low-level Beedrill, it is a bit confusing to still run into Pokémon that are much lower level than those in your party. After all, in games like this one, they have often raised the level of the creatures close to your level in order to keep things interesting. In Pokémon however, even though you have to backtrack, the programmers decided to keep attacking Pokémon at a rather low level.

23 Something’s Not Adding Up

Via: smackjeeves.com

After becoming more familiar with the Pokédex over the years I wondered if it was a test of some sort. Given the discrepancies that we tend to find it seems like the programmers were testing to see if we actually took the time to read the entries that were given for specific Pokémon. To be fair, when I was playing the games when I was little the last thing I paid attention to was the Pokédex entries.

That isn’t to say that I didn’t read them from time to time, but let's be honest here, how many of you really read each one all the way through? While I didn’t read many of them, I did read Alakazam’s as he was one of my favorite Pokémon and I found it a bit odd that he could only learn four battle moves. You would think that with all of his abilities that he would be able to learn a fifth battle move with no problem.

22 Hidden In Plain Sight

Via: dorkly.com

I got so used to having to teach new moves to my Pokémon that I didn’t even think twice about the absurdity of some of them. As with the ability to fly, you would think that Scyther would already know how to cut given the presence of blades on its hands, but again this isn’t the case at all.

Just like with flight, you have to help Scyther learn how to cut.

So, what exactly do they do when you aren’t there to teach them such an ability? Do they just wait around for a trainer to come along or do they learn it on their own as many of us would expect them to? We may never know the answer, but this comic pretty much sums up how most of us felt with having to take the extended time to teach the cut ability to such Pokémon.

21 Food For Thought

Via: gameinterlude.com

When it comes to Pokémon there are a lot of strange things that are never really explained. Given the fact that Satoshi Tajiri didn’t expect the game to go on for as long as it has, I can understand why this is the case. He was probably more concerned with the way that the game ran and its mechanics, rather than explaining things within the universe that were trivial.

After all, we are playing a game within a fantasy world and so pretty much anything is possible. That being said, there has been a lot of discussion about Diglett and what it really looks like once it leaves the ground. We might not ever know the answer, but some rather hilarious theories, such as Diglett being a buff creature underneath, have made their rounds on the internet.

20 Makes Sense

Via: pokeboard.com

When you have a universe as vast as the one inside the games you are bound to have a few things that are not really explained. Given that the franchise is geared toward children primarily, it makes a lot of sense to leave out the finer details of certain events that happen within the games themselves.

The whole idea of Pokémon eggs has given rise to some rather humorous comics.

It’s not just the simple fact that creatures can hatch from eggs fully grown and having their own offspring, but also the fact that no one seems to know how the eggs actually got there. You would think that a Pokémon breeder would be able to tell you how it happened, but instead, they tell you they have no idea. This particular comic puts a whole spin on it though and really puts things into perspective for us.

19 Random Placement

Via: imgur.com

As you get older you learn just how much planning goes into everything around you. You learn how to build things yourself and you come to realize just how frustrating and rewarding it can be to create something from your own hands. Everything has to be well thought out and planned ahead of time so that it all comes together the way you want it to.

Even the slightest mistake can be the difference between having a table that is completely center and even and one that is rather lopsided. Given the immense amount of work that goes into constructing everything around us, one has to wonder just what the builders inside the Pokémon universe were thinking when they built fences that lead to nowhere and others that seemed to create an elaborate maze.

18 The Endless Backpack

Via: big5kayakchallenge.com

If you’ve ever had to pack things into a suitcase for a trip you have undoubtedly learned many ways to place as much as you can within that limited amount of space. You take a lot of things into account that you otherwise would not if you were at home and you often forgo weight limitations when necessary, within reason.

Within most games, there is a limit to just how much you can hold.

While many games do limit your inventory to a certain extent, Pokémon among them, there is something rather strange about the whole process. The amount of items and the types of items that you can place within your backpack is rather astounding and it almost seems as if you have an endless amount of space.

17 Searching For The Right One

Via: pokemonmeme.com

One thing that doesn’t seem to be addressed anywhere within the Pokémon franchise is how exactly a trainer knows which Poké Ball they are choosing. Sure, there are different types of Poké Balls and it stands to reason that a trainer might know a few of their Pokémon, but overtime this would become increasingly difficult as they captured more along their journey.

Why the creators of the game never really address this issue is anyone’s guess, but I think that there are a lot of good fan theories out there that explain it pretty well. Given that we know that they are transferred into the Poké Ball as data, it stands to reason that the action of calling their name is needed in order for the ball to call the right Pokémon forward. In a sense, it doesn’t matter which ball that the trainer chooses as long as they say the right name.

16 Sparing No Expense

Via: knowyourmeme.com

The money system within the games has been a point of conversation for some time now. There are items within it that are reasonably priced and then there are items within it that seem almost impossible to obtain. This could be simply explained away by the designers wanting you to explore the game more and progress slower, but it still makes for some pretty funny images.

There was an idea of adding a skateboard into Pokémon silver instead of a bike.

Though I would have loved to have a skateboard, the bike was also pretty cool. Speaking of the bike, it seems like it cost you an arm and a leg to get one and you spend forever collecting enough money to finally purchase one within the game. Given the presence of other precious metals within the universe, it stands to reason that facing this situation someone might do just as is depicted.

15 Looking Closer At The Data

Via: me.me

There has been a long and arduous discussion about why the Pokémon games are framed in the way that they are. People often wonder why you are a kid in the games and why you are handed so much responsibility that seems rather over the top given your position. It’s fair to say that in reality, a professor wouldn’t give a child the sort of responsibility you are given within the games.

In keeping with that notion, one has to wonder where the entries within the Pokédex really came from. Professor Oak claims to have studied all the Pokémon himself, but yet some of the data that the Pokédex provides you with seems off. The weights of the creatures don’t add up and there are many other factors that don’t make much sense. It makes you wonder if he used kids before to collect the data that he himself claims to know.

14 An Unlikely Pair

Via: funnyjunk.com

As if the subject of matting wasn’t strange enough within the Pokémon universe there’s more. While it might seem strange that certain creatures can mate with one another, at times it doesn’t seem too far-fetched given their closeness to one another and their similar characteristics. That being said, there are other factors that really make you question the thought process of the creators.

There are times when mating matches make no sense at all.

It isn’t just differences in characteristics that make it seem strange though, it’s the vast difference in size that really makes you start to question. For example, for some strange reason, Skitty and Wailord can mate. That’s right; one of the largest Pokémon within the games can mate with one of the smallest Pokémon within the games and produce offspring.

13 Random Encounters

Via: aminoapps.com

I love playing many different RPGs don’t get me wrong, but one of the things that really irritates me about them is the fact that you seem to get attacked by surprise out of nowhere. You would think that you would be able to see the enemy coming at times and be able to avoid them before an encounter even occurs.

When it comes to pokémon, things get even stranger due to the fact that most of them are much taller than humans are. You would think that you would not only be able to see them over the grass but also find a way to sneak past them. While this doesn’t occur, it's not the most frustrating part of the whole experience. No, that comes with the realization that you can take two steps in any direction and immediately be attacked again by a random Pokémon.

12 A Harsh Reality

Via: deviantart.com(AmukaUroy)

There are a lot of things that the games get right, but some things are just too far out there. Just like if you were on a ship, it makes sense that you would be able to be attacked by a random Pokémon while surfing, but it’s what happens during the battle that makes things rather difficult to comprehend.

Water battles add an extra element to the game and give you an environment to encounter water Pokémon.

While water battles are necessary to introduce you to different types of wild Pokémon within the universe, it makes you wonder what happens during these battles in reality. After all, you are in the middle of the ocean battling another Pokémon, You decided that you want to capture it. You have to not only throw your Poké Ball the perfect distance, but you also have to come up with a way to bring it back into your hands before it sinks.

11 Just Go Around

Via: deviantart.com(vaporeono)

We’ve all been there in life. We try to think about a solution to a problem that we are facing when the answer to it is staring us straight in the face the whole time. It happens within video games all the time and it’s what makes some of the more challenging games that much more frustrating once you find the solution.

While we do tend to over think things at times, the presence of small shrubs within our path inside the Pokémon universe is not one of those times. Even as a kid I am sure you thought, as I did, that it was rather strange that you had no way of walking around the shrub or over the fence to its side. It didn’t make any sense at all that you needed your Pokémon to cut it and yet they are still presented as an obstacle within the games to this day.
