A long time ago, in a galaxy far, far away...

Star Wars has become one of the most iconic franchises in film and science fiction history. A galaxy-wide franchise filled with droids, space fights, political intrigue and mystical knights with otherworldly powers, Star Wars is the story of good versus evil and light versus dark. A galaxy filled with various alien races, the story created by director George Lucas is one audiences both young and old alike have come to love and adore. Jedi versus Sith. Republic versus Confederacy. Empire versus Rebellion. The story is one of good fighting evil in it's various forms, and the constant struggle to maintain balance and peace.

While fans love the classic struggle of the heroes and their fight against the forces of evil, there is a lot of humor in the Star Wars universe. Now thanks to the Internet, we can view these funny moments through the use of memes.

Now it's time to come along with us as we explore some of the funniest, laugh out loud moments in the Star Wars universe. These are the 25 most hilarious memes that only true Star Wars fans will understand, so grab onto your lightsaber and prepare to make the Kessel run!

25 The Cost Of Power

via Pinterest

One of the most iconic villains and overall characters of the Star Wars franchise has to be Darth Vader. The Sith Lord was once former Jedi Master Anakin Skywalker, who was led down a dark and dangerous path that turned him towards the dark side of the force, making him into the evil Darth Vader. However this meme not only highlights the rivalry between him and his former master and best friend Obi-Wan Kenobi, but it touches on the way Anakin became the half-robot villain Vader. In the meme, Obi-Wan hilariously throws shade at his former apprentice, telling Vader the new Death Star weapon must have cost him an arm and a leg. For those of you who don't know, Obi-Wan cut off Vader's arm and legs in their first battle, leaving him to do on a fiery lava planet with only one robotic arm.

24 Dew The Dark Side

via Deseret News

The second most iconic villain of the franchise has to be Emperor Palpatine. Once a senator for the Galactic Republic, the man became the chancellor and was soon revealed to be a secret Sith, manipulating everyone into a galactic war to slowly take control of the galaxy with an iron grip. Disfigured in his fight with the Jedi, he dismantled the government and became the monstrous Emperor, controlling Darth Vader and ruling through intimidation and fear. His growl like speech has become infamous in the franchise, and the final battle between him, Vader, and Luke Skywalker, in Episode VI saw him using his manipulative speech to encourage Luke to turn to the dark side, urging him to strike him down with his lightsaber and end the slaughter of his friends. In this meme, we hilariously see him using this speech, but rather than lure to the dark side, he wants another Mountain Dew soda.

23 Too Hot To Handle

via Pinterest

The female characters of the Star Wars universe are some of the most incredible, strong and action-driven characters in the series. From the late Carrier Fisher's Leia Organa to Daisy Ridley's Rey, these characters are known for their strength and courage in the face of great evil. Yet, despite their strength, they are still revered for their beauty, and are considered "hot" by the fandom. Yet, this meme does an excellent job of showing the double standard of beauty while also playing on the word "hot." In this meme, we get to see Leia, Rey, and Natalie Portman's Padme Amadala, the wife of Anakin Skywalker and Leia's mother, all lined up in a row. We then see a burnt up Anakin and the smoking remains of Luke's aunt and uncle from the original film, making them all listed as "hot," both figuratively and literally in the grand scheme of things.

22 Political Binks

via ThoughtCo

This next meme gets hilariously political as we get a glimpse at how people tend to view the political race. Politics is definitely one of the most divisive subjects in the world. Everyone has an opinion, and these opinions can become heated to the point where a simple difference can make neighbors and family your enemy. While we have no interest in talking about specific politics here, this meme is so funny because it plays on how we view politics in general. Using Star Wars characters, we see that when it comes to elections, we see our preferred politicians as the heroic Ben Kenobi, while their opponent is the villainous Darth Vader. Yet, in the end, no politician is perfect, and both end up being more of the goofy and childlike Jar Jar Binks, who is neither good or evil, but just a mess of a person in general.

21 Fond Memories

via YouTube (Blake's Gaming and Outdoors Adventures)

This next meme does such a great job of bringing the humor back to the fight between Ben Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker. In the original film, Luke meets Ben when he's just this mysterious desert dweller on his home planet. However through the early events of the film, Luke mentions his last name, and Ben mysteriously adds that he hasn't heard that name in a long time, since his days as a Jedi. This leads into the main events of the film, but this meme hilariously changes the dialogue to showcase just how in the know Ben really was about Luke and his family lineage. With the prequels we now know that Ben chose to protect Luke and watch him grow up to protect him from his father, who became Darth Vader. In the meme, we see him recall the memory of his father's last fight, when he cut off his legs and left him for dead.

20 Rough Work Day

via Star Wars Battlefront Wiki - Fandom

One of the earliest and most iconic phrases from the original film has to be when Ben Kenobi shows off his Jedi abilities to Luke. They drive into a local town, where storm troopers are looking for C-3PO and R2-D2. As the troopers ask for identification on the droids, Obi-Wan uses the force and convinces them that these aren't the droids that the troopers are looking for. The power is known as the Jedi Mind Trick, and it worked perfectly in the film. However this meme shows the hilarious ramifications of the mind trick, where the trooper realizes that he was duped and those were the droids he was looking for. He is shown to be a frustrated trooper, holding his helmet in his hands as he looks on. Whether he's lamenting at failing in his duties or is worried about Darth Vader's wrath I don't know, but it's funny nonetheless.

19 Sith In The Hat

via Pinterest

Ever wondered what would happen if Dr. Seuss ever made a book about the Sith? No...well I guess the people behind this meme did. In this next meme we see a hilarious rhyme about the Sith, the villainous dark side of the force wielders who want complete galactic dominance. In the meme, we see the rhyme play out, "One Sith, Two Sith, Red Sith, Blue Sith." This is a classic play on the Dr. Seuss book One Fish, Two Fish, Red Fish, Blue Fish. While not as iconic as The Cat in the Hat or Horton Hears a Who, this story is adapted perfectly into the Star Wars mythology, giving us a glimpse at iconic characters like Count Dooku, Darth Vader, Darth Maul and Emperor Palpatine. The color scheme and rhyme of the meme makes this analysis of the dark side of the force much more humorous.

18 A Jedi Christmas

via Pinterest

This next meme is just in time for the holidays. The force is the mysterious source of power that both Jedi and Sith draw on. The force is made up of both light and dark abilities, and the Jedi use their abilities to tune into the galaxy, listening for the presence of other force users or those force users who have moved on to the other side. This next meme is a play on the Jedi feeling the presence of another force user, as Obi-Wan tells his apprentice Anakin that he has found out what he has gotten him for Christmas. When asked how, it's a play on words as he has felt his "presents." This hilarious holiday meme brings the lighthearted banter both Obi-Wan and Anakin once had with each other and the way we tend to try to find out what we got for the holidays.

17 Embarrassing Past

via Bustle

The Force Awakens was the previous installment in the Star Wars franchise before The Last Jedi. In that film, newcomers Rey and Finn were introduced to Han Solo aboard the infamous Millennium Falcon. While on there, Han relayed to the two newcomers that the stories about Luke, the Jedi, the Sith and the rebellion against the empire were all true. However this next meme is a play on that scene, as one of the more embarrassing aspects of the Star Wars universe has to be the Star Wars Christmas Special. This holiday special is filled with cheesy one-liners, terrible costumes and horrifying new holiday characters. In this meme, Han tells them that it's all true, and Rey counters that even the holiday special was true. It's so horrifying to think about that Han tells them to get off of his ship. This hilarious call to the holiday show was so funny to see play out.

16 Learning From His Mistakes

via Pinterest

The new Star Wars trilogy has seen the emergence of Kylo Ren, a new villain who is the grandson of Darth Vader. The son of Han and Leia, he proved to be powerful with the force but turned to the dark side when new villain Supreme Leader Snoke lured him to the dark side. Throughout the new films, he makes it a point to say he wants to be just like his grandfather, arguably one of the most powerful force users ever, and the most powerful Sith to ever walk the galaxy. Yet, in this meme, we get to see what Darth Vader would say to his grandson now that he is dead. He tells him plainly that he is dead, despised by his kids, has a dead wife, he's burnt up for the rest of his life, his boss is evil, and pretty much has a horrible life. Good luck to you though, Kylo.

15 The Disney Effect

via eBaum's World

This next meme delves into the fact that Star Wars is now owned by Walt Disney. Yes, the House of Mouse is now the owner and distributor of the galaxy far, far away. While we aren't going to be seeing Mickey Mouse and Donald Duck battling with lightsabers anytime soon, Disney has some similarities to the movies already. In this meme, we see that the infamous fight between Obi-Wan and Anakin in Episode III looks almost exactly like the fight between Scar and Simba in The Lion King. Yes, the rightful king of the Pride Lands fought his nefarious uncle, who murdered his father and drove him into exile. Their faces and fighting looks so much like Obi-Wan's battle with Anakin on the lava planet Mustafar, it's almost like the film was taking some inspiration from the Disney classic. Someone should have told Anakin to Hakuna Matata, am I right?

14 The Tragedy Of Cereal

via Pinterest

This next meme seriously made me laugh out loud when I saw it. In Episode II of the prequel series, we see the tragic backstory of Anakin and his family. Born a slave on the planet Tattooine, he was rescued and freed by the Jedi, but as a teenager he returned to the planet after he received visions of his mother in pain. When he came home, he learned she had married and been freed, only to be captured by the Sand People. When Anakin found her, she had been tortured and died in his arms. His grief led him to slaughter the Sand People with his lightsaber, giving into his anger and confessing to Padme, who comforted him. This secret stayed between them, but in this meme, we see the tragic backstory turned towards another story, and that is the story of the rabbit who never gets Trix cereal.

13 Dad Jokes

via theBERRY

This next meme plays on the father/son relationship between Han Solo and Kylo Ren, otherwise known as Ben Solo. The biggest shock of the films has to be (SPOILER ALERT), the death of Han Solo. In a moment of pure emotion, Han reaches out to his son, hoping to bring him back from the darkness. However, Ben embraces the dark side instead, becoming Kylo and stabbing his father through the chest with his lightsaber. It was a shocking moment, as Han is arguably one of the most loved characters in the franchise. However, this meme takes a new look at what drove Kylo to do the horrible deed. In this meme, we see Han ask his son a question about what time he should go to the dentist. When Kylo asks when, Han replies, "Tooth-Hurty." This is a classic example of a terrible dad joke, and Kylo responds by killing him.

12 Star Wars Hate

via Askideas.com

In this meme, we as Star Wars fans express the horror, disappointment and tragedy of meeting non Star Wars fans. This franchise has inspired a whole slew of dedicated fans. Fans who love the franchise so much, they get tattoos, cosplay and even get married in costume. I once saw a couple's first dance as man and wife turned into a lightsaber battle between a Jedi and Sith. Yet, not everyone in the world loves Star Wars. Shocking, I know. Yet, in this meme, we get to feel the same raw emotions that Padme felt in this scene, which depicts how she found out for herself how Anakin turned to the dark side, becoming a Sith lord. It's the struggle we all feel in these moments, when we have a significant other who isn't a fan of Star Wars, and our hearts break as we realize just how incompatible we are.

11 Sick Burn

via Pinterest

The fall of Anakin has been the subject of a lot of memes. Whether it's because it's part of the controversial prequel series or because it's such an iconic moment in the Darth Vader story, these are the moments that inspire more memes than anything else. So, in this meme, we get to see the newly turned dark lord of the Sith get absolutely trolled by his former master, Obi Wan. Here, we catch a glimpse of Anakin asking how Obi-Wan found him, to which he replies, "Oh, I followed the smell of utter betrayal." It's a hilarious way for Obi-Wan to take a dig at Anakin, who really fell so far down the dark side that he became a twisted version of the man Obi-Wan loved like a brother. It's a funny way to showcase the way fans felt watching the inevitable fall of the heroic Anakin Skywalker.

10 An Absolute Nightmare

via Pleated Jeans

The fall of Anakin Skywalker and his transformation into Darth Vader was definitely one of the highlights of the prequel series. In Episode III, we got to see the iconic fight between Anakin and Obi-Wan, as Anakin's fall came to a head and he fought the man who was not only his mentor, but his brother. While the fight was intense and action packed, the final debate between good and evil between the two men was filled with a lot of chatter, and one line in the speech was when Obi-Wan told Anakin that only a Sith would deal in absolutes. This meme does an excellent job of showing the use of puns and logic against this argument, as Anakin hears what Obi-Wan says and asks if he really believes that, to which Obi-Wan replies, "Absolutely." Does that make Obi-Wan a Sith as well?

9 Star Wars PR

via IndieWire

Once again, I must reiterate that we are not taking a stance one way or another on any politics in our world. We are simply showing some funny and relevant memes from Star Wars. Okay, so this next meme is a play on something that has been circulating the internet all year. While mostly popular in the US, this is a worldwide topic that makes this meme so funny to see. In this meme, we see the moment Obi-Wan tells Padme about how Anakin slaughtered hundreds of younglings, which are children training to be Jedi. However we see Anakin later on in his Darth Vader phase, telling Padme that this is all "fake news." This is further made fun of when we see the Emperor telling the senate that the youngling thing is fake news and that Anakin is a terrific guy. This is reminiscent of some recent political events and discussions in the world.

8 Rebellion's Next Top Model

via eBaum's World

Poe Dameron. The next great pilot for the rebellion in the newest Star Wars trilogy is played by the incredible Oscar Issac and is considered by a lot of people to be one of the newest heartthrobs in the Star Wars franchise. While this isn't surprising in itself, the fact that Poe is a rebel pilot in the classic orange jumpsuit is what's so hilarious. Longtime fans of the franchise will notice in this meme the original pilots of the rebellion, who were not as widely popular both in character and looks back in the day. The OG pilots were definitely more of an everyday kind of person, from average joes to alien pilots and more. Poe Dameron is definitely not your typical rebel pilot, and his model looks are very out of place in the grand scheme of things in the new Star Wars universe.

7 Limbless

via Pinterest

In this next meme, we see both Star Wars and Game of Thrones obsession with cutting off people's limbs. In the meme, we are given a glimpse of the various characters of both franchises. Luke Skywalker and his father Anakin of Star Wars fame all had their hands cut off, as did Jamie Lannister from Game of Thrones. However, in the final panel of the meme, we are shown Theon Greyjoy, the man who tried to fight for power and lost. He was taken prisoner by the evil Ramsay Bolton, Roose Bolton's illegitimate son. His viciousness and love of torture led him to brutally torture Theon as his prisoner, and his most despicable act came when it was time to sever one of his limbs. Rather than take his hand however, he took something related to the male anatomy, making this meme hilarious as he looks at their severed hands and thinks, you got off lucky.

6 Grumpy Vader

via Vitamin-Ha

The most infamous Sith lord meets the internet's most famous cat in this hilarious next meme. Grumpy Cat is a well known internet sensation, with his peculiar face that makes it appear as if the cat is constantly frowning. In this meme, we see the dark lord of the Sith Darth Vader, who is always trying to get his son Luke to join the dark side. Rather than Luke this time however, we see Vader make an offer to another powerful icon, Grumpy Cat. If there was ever a pet who looked like the embodiment of the dark side, it has to be Grumpy Cat. With it's natural frown, the offer to join the dark side has never been more appealing, and in this meme we hilariously see the cat accept the dark lord's offer. Can you imagine the cat wielding a lightsaber though? That's too funny to think about.

5 Look On The Dark Side

via Pinterest

This next meme returns to the way Kylo loves and wants to embody his grandfather's legacy. Darth Vader caused a lot of pain and suffering to a lot of people, but most notably he nearly destroyed the Skywalker family. Anakin became the hidden hero imprisoned by his evil half, Darth Vader. Responsible for his wife's death, his kids were kept apart for most of their childhood. When they did unite, they worked together to destroy the empire and fight their father, (although unknown to them until the final film in their trilogy). Darth was alone for most of his life until he finally let Anakin take control and he saved his son from the Emperor, dying in the process. Yet, in this meme, we see Darth Vader looking on the bright (or dark) side of things, happily accepting that at least his grandson Kylo loves him.

4 Stalker Much?

via Dorkly

In this next meme, we see the creepy way Anakin and Padme became husband and wife. You see, Padme was a teenage queen from the planet Naboo when she met the ten-year-old boy Anakin. In the second film, she was an adult and he was a teenager, who grew an obsessive attraction towards the queen turned senator. When he was assigned to protect her from assassins, they fled to her home planet, hiding in a royal home of her own. In this meme, we see his creepy obsession with her make her totally uncomfortable. Throughout the film he made it quite obvious how he felt about her, pleading with her to like him back and surrender herself to him (emotionally, I think). In this meme, we see Padme flash a fake smile, all the while pressing a button calling for help. I won't lie, that's how I felt watching this romance take hold in the second film.

3 Vape Life

via TheThings.com

In this next meme, we see a popular trend take hold in the newest Star Wars film. One of the pivotal moments from the new film The Force Awakens came when Han Solo, Finn, and Rey, watched in horror as the First Order unleashed their weapon, Starkiller Base. The weapon was a planet that harnessed the sun's energy and unleashed it at a star system, wiping out multiple planets all at once. Han watched in terror as the system was destroyed, taking out the capital of the Republic's political system. While everyone was watching the weapon being unleashed, there was one alien in the background who could not have cared less about the weapon. In this meme, we see an alien smoking a pipe of some sort, and the caption mentions how vape is life. Vape is a new way to smoke, which has become popular over the years.

2 Killer Brag

via GeekTyrant

Bragging is nothing new to memes, but this one hilariously compares the actions of one killer in Game of Thrones to that of Anakin Skywalker's crimes in Star Wars. This first part of the meme shows on of Rob Stark's loyal followers, who ended some children who were prisoners of war from one of the houses supporting the Lannister's in the war of kings. While any loss of life, let alone a child's, is a horrible thing to witness, this crime is nothing compared to the massacre of the Jedi children in Episode II: Revenge of the Sith. In this moment, Anakin becomes Darth Vader, killing all Jedi at the Emperor's behest. However, the slaughter doesn't stop there, as the Emperor wants to end the Jedi once and for all, and has Anakin slay countless children in his name. It's a terrible massacre to behold.

1 Yoda The Gremlin

via Star Wars RP: Chaos

In this meme, we see the funniest meme of all. One of the most iconic Jedi in the franchise is no doubt Yoda, the head of the Jedi Order and the oldest living Jedi in the original films. The little green Jedi Master trained countless Jedi, including Obi-Wan and Anakin. In this meme, we see Anakin talking with the wise Jedi Master, revealing that he has found the master's old high school yearbook photo. Instead, however, we see that Yoda was actually Gizmo, the adorable little creature from the hit film Gremlins. Gizmo was the light-sensitive furball who couldn't eat after midnight and couldn't get wet. When he did, several more creatures were born, and when they ate after midnight, they became little green monsters. So by this logic, could Yoda have actually been a Gizmo-like creature who ate after midnight and became a gremlin?
