Crafting can often be a large part of gaming. You'll find crafting systems in a wide range of genres including role-playing-games, action-adventure titles, sandbox simulators, and more. The process is often used as a way to add depth to acquiring items including potions, armor, weapons, and even furniture. Crafting systems are usually reasonably unique to a game, yet there are universal struggles and quirks among them all.

10 Minecraft Players Are Still Worthy, If They Remember The Crafting Recipes

Text reads "when you remember all the crafting recipes after not playing for 7 years" underneath is Thor holding his hammer out and the words "I'm Still Worthy" The hammer is replaced with a Minecraft diamond pick.

One of the biggest boosts in a game is when you can remember the recipes, even after not playing for a long while. These days Minecraft, which is referenced in this meme, helps you out with the new crafting menu system, but there's still something satisfying about remembering how many sticks you need to make a fishing rod with your trusty crafting table.

If you come back into any game and still have those item combinations in your brain then we agree that you are incredibly worthy. Being able to recall recipes shows a dedication to crafting and will always make your life easier as you know exactly what to collect. It's a win-win situation.

9 Who Needs Knives When You Have Broken Scissors?

The Last of Us image with the text "creates a shiv from a broken scissor, ignores actual knives."

The Last of Us is often praised for its harrowing and hard-hitting narrative as well as its gameplay and well pretty much every other aspect of it. There's one place where this attention to detail fails however and that's in crafting.

In a move seen in many other games created both before and after The Last of Us, sensible choices appear to be off the table. As you immerse yourself in the game, watch Joel walk straight past an actual knife in order to find somewhere to safely craft a shiv from a rusty scissor blade.

8 Team Fortress 2 Will Make You Eat Metal

Team Fortress 2 recipes containing iron above an image saying "what, I'm eating metal?"

Bizzare crafting recipes are common but Team Fortress 2 takes this to the next level. Valve's first-person shooter sees you add 'scrap metal' to a 'sandvich' in order to create a 'Dalokahs Bar' which resembles chocolate.

You can also add 'reclaimed metal' to a 'sandvich' and make a 'buffalo steak sandwich,' presumably this is because metal can be crafted into anything edible? We've not sold on that idea personally, and neither is the Heavy. Let's hope he has a good dentist on speed dial.

7 WoW Crafters Just Wanna Stop At Every Single Node In The Game

Guy looking at another woman meme. Guy is labeled "My wow character" Holding the hand of "running to my destination with no distractions" while looking at "Stopping at every mode to forage."

Of course, before you can craft you need to collect. No matter if you need ore, herbs, wood, or random pieces of junk, collecting crafting materials is essential. The problem is it can also become addictive, especially in MMORPG games like World of Warcraft.

There are quests to do and raid to run but who can resist the glint or an ore vein, or a telltale symbol on your minimap showing treasures to be found? It doesn't matter if it's copper ore from outside Orgrimmar that you haven't used since level five, every good orc needs ore, all the ore.

6 Stairs Can Be Expensive To Craft

Tiger King meme. Text at top reads "me after crafting wooden stairs. Underneath an image of Joe with the words "I'm never gonna financially recover from this."

When you're just starting out in a game, it's amazing just how costly some items are to craft. The stairs in Minecraft are a prime example of this. It costs six blocks to make just four stairs. That means that by using stair blocks, instead of regular blocks, you'll need a lot more materials to get to the same height.

This is the reason why starter homes rarely have stairs, also the reason we're suspicious of our crafting table. After all the stairs are smaller than the blocks used to make them. So, where does all the extra wood go? If anything stairs should cost less to craft, surely?

5 Maybe There Are No Screws In Assault Rifles

Fallout vault dweller in the middle. Text reads "create a functioning nuclear reactor from scrap, can't salvage a single screw from an assault rifle."

Salvaging is another important part of crafting but what you can salvage doesn't always make sense. Of course, it is possible that an assault rifle doesn't contain a screw but that seems unlikely. It's also just one example of the salvaged pieces of items not really making sense.

While salvaging can seem weird, especially in the Fallout franchise, it's equally crazy that you can make radios and reactors from scrap. Let's face it the whole process just needs you to use your imagination a little.

4 Crafting Is Amazing Unless You Need Arrows

The Last of Us takes insane crafting to a new level. Joel can gather random scrap to make bombs and other such impressive weapons, yet can't work out how to make extra arrows or fuel.

While we can understand being reluctant to wing it when trying to power a flamethrower we've yet to uncover the reason for being unable to make arrows.

3 Minecraft Only Gives Out Doors In Threes

Text reads : "Me: Tries to make one door. Minecraft:" Underneath is Patrick from Spongebob saying "three, take it or leave it" Text at the bottom poses the question "why would I need 3 doors?"

Another crafting anomaly Minecraft players will be used to is the randomness of doors. When you craft a door you won't get just one, or even two but three doors. No one is sure why doors always come in threes but it's spectacularly unhelpful.

Minecraft clearly expects every home to require two front doors and a back door. Maybe this is a requirement we didn't know about or alternatively, someone told them that three is a magic number.

2 Crafting Is Hard In Early Access

Early access survival crafting mmo starter pack. image includes sleeping bag, torch, bug spray, med kit, stone, axe, wood and servers are busy message.

If you're playing an early access adventure game you'll be able to identify with this list. Crafters will be especially taken with the rock, axe, and log chopping but all these items are as essential as crafting itself.

The busy servers, flaming torch, and error messages really hit hard but we all know insane new crafting systems to figure out are the highlight of survival MMOs.

1 All Animal Crossing New Horizons Players Want Are 30 Iron Nuggets

Text reads "new player's after their first day in animal crossing" Underneath is sheldon from TBBT surrounded by iron nuggets text reads "I don't need sleep, I need 30 Iron Nuggets."

Not even moving to a desert island will help you avoid crafting, as Animal Crossing New Horizons players discovered. Tom Nook will teach you to craft but he'll also expect you to cough up 30 iron nuggets to build a store.

That's no mean feat for a new player and one that's echoed throughout many other games that ask you to collect a bunch of resources that seems impossible. Still, we don't need sleep, we're crafters.
