Hitman as a series is all about being sneaky and subtle, which makes it all the more bizarre that one player has attempted to kill every NPC in the iconic Sapienza level with a massive explosion. In order to go about accomplishing such a feat, Twitch streamer RTGameCrowd spent a ridiculous amount of time - almost seven hours - knocking out each NPC and dragging them all to a single room.

As reported by Kotaku, RTGameCrowd gathered up all of his innocent victims and crammed them into the room before throwing a remote rubber duck explosive into the crowd. He also added a propane tank for some extra oomph. Unfortunately, the Twitch streamer’s plans didn’t go quite as intended, with only around 20 NPCs dying in the explosion. After a few more failed attempts, RTGameCrowd surmised that the rest of the bodies were acting as a “meat shield” and went back to the drawing board.

Clearly this is not how the game is supposed to be played, but the fact that this is possible at all is one of the reasons as to why the series is so popular. It’s this kind of creative thinking and ingenuity that has allowed speedrunners to complete levels in dizzyingly fast times. Most recently, Hitman 3’s first level was completed in eight seconds.

In fact, the Hitman franchise is more popular than ever. IO Interactive recently announced that Hitman 3 had the biggest digital launch in the series’ history, and that the developers have already recouped development costs just under a week after launch.

If you’ve never played a Hitman game and want to give it a try, then Hitman 3 is a great entry point. Plus, both the first and second Hitman games can be played through Hitman 3 with updated visuals and gameplay mechanics if you already own them. These titles can also be experienced for the first time in VR. Hitman 3 is currently available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X/S, and can be streamed on Nintendo Switch.
