Hitman 3 was already confirmed as the fastest-selling digital game in franchise history, but it looks like things are only getting better for our favorite bald hitman. According to a new statement from IO Interactive, Hitman 3 has recouped its development costs and is already turning a profit for the company.

"We have been really happy with the Hitman 3 journey," said IO Interactive CEO Hakan Abrak. "It has been a labor of love between our fans and everyone at the studio. As the developer and publisher, we are immensely proud that we can say Hitman 3 is already profitable. We have recouped the total project costs in less than a week."

After more than two decades on the market, it looks like Agent 47's skillset is still very much in demand.

Hakan continues to say that the game's unprecedented success puts the studio in a good place to move forward with its "ambitious plans for future projects." IO Interactive made the decision in 2020 to self-publish Hitman 3, and it's a decision that seems to be paying off. Hitman 3 continues to pull in new players every day, and even managed to top the UK charts last week. Launch sales for Hitman 3 were 17% higher in the region than they were for Hitman 2 – a strong way to close out the story of Agent 47.

Hitman 3 hasn't been immune to the impacts of coronavirus, and one of its NPCs even takes note of the real-life pandemic that's still placing people on lockdown around the globe. If you listen carefully during the first mission in Hitman 3, you'll hear your target say, "I bet the people with coronavirus get more tranquility than this." People in the game aren't quite walking around in public with masks, but it's a quirky easter egg, nonetheless.

With "ambitious plans" in development from IO Interactive, don't expect to see Hitman 3 drop off the radar anytime soon. IO Interactive hasn't confirmed any DLC expansions, but we're hopeful the title will receive some form of post-launch support.

Hitman 3 is now available for PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X|S, and Nintendo Switch via Cloud Streaming.
