The long-rumored Harry Potter game, Hogwarts Legacy, was finally revealed at the PlayStation 5 Showcase.

Hogwarts Legacy is an open-world action RPG developed by Avalanche Studios and PortKey Games. The game takes place at Hogwarts in the 1800s, and the player takes on the role of a Hogwarts student. The game explores the secrets of Hogwarts Castle. The game did show environments to explore outside the castle, including Azkaban and Hogsmeade. Players get to experience the life of a Hogwarts student by learning new spells, choosing their house, and making new friends. The trailer also shows the player fighting a troll and dragon, among other fantastical creatures. The game will release sometime in 2021 on PS4, PS5, Xbox One, Xbox Series X, Xbox Series S, and PC.

The game seems to hint that players' choices will impact the story. "Hogwarts Legacy is filled with immersive magic, putting players at the center of their adventure to become the witch or wizard they choose to be," said in a press release by Warner Bros. "Players will also encounter missions and scenarios that will pose difficult choices and determine what they stand for." The trailer shows the player fighting a masked villain, but it would be interesting if the game lets the player become an evil wizard. It will be fascinating to see what choices the players can make inside the world of Harry Potter.

Hogwarts Legacy has been rumored for a long time, ever since footage of the game leaked in 2018. The game looks promising for any fans of the Harry Potter franchise. An original adventure in this universe is exciting. However, the game announcement comes at a troubling time for the franchise because of JK Rowling's disturbing comments about trans people. There have also been reports that some developers wanted to leave the project because of Rowling's remarks. Here is hoping that the game sticks it to Rowling and puts in transgender character options.

The PlayStation 5 showcase revealed some incredible games, including Final Fantasy XVI, Hogwarts Legacy, and God Of War: Ragnarok. Sony also announced the price and release date of the PS5. Sony nailed this showcase, and PlayStation fans have a lot to be excited about heading into the next generation. Hogwarts Legacy has a lot of potential to be the best Harry Potter game ever made, and fans can get their hands on the game sometime in 2021.
