The developer behind Hogwarts Legacy, Avalanche Software, noted last week how the game will have a PlayStation exclusive quest, Felix Felicis Potion Recipe. The news comes from a long thread on Twitter in which the developer clarified which versions of the game are going to feature what content. This came in the wake of significant confusion over the complexity of the release.“We're aware of the confusion that has sparked following the rollout of preorders and we acknowledge and apologize for the frustration caused in our community,” Avalanche noted. “The team hears you and we'd like to provide some clarity on questions that have come up.” The company went on to say that “for clarity, preorders of the PS4 and PS5 editions (Standard, Deluxe, Digital Deluxe, and Collector’s Edition) will come with the Felix Felicis Potion Recipe.” Avalanche added that “all PlayStation editions will come with the exclusive quest. No preorder is required to obtain it. More information around Sony exclusives coming soon.”RELATED: Should You Play Hogwarts Legacy If You Care About Your Trans Friends? While the nature of the exclusive quest remains to be seen, fans of the franchise have been speculating about the matter, suggesting that some story related content could be in the works for owners of the relevant platform. The various differences between the PlayStation, Switch, Xbox, and PC versions of the game could on the other hand be entirely trivial. Avalanche has not revealed any specifics. This form of platform exclusivity is quickly becoming a thing of the past, but the practice in fact has a long history in the games industry. Bungie for example gave Destiny a number of weapons that were exclusive to the PlayStation version of the game. Konami likewise shipped Metal Gear Solid 5: The Phantom Pain with a series of exclusive missions for both Xbox and PlayStation.

Hogwarts Legacy has been fraught with controversy throughout its entire process of development on account of the connection with JK Rowling, the author of Harry Potter. Potential players for example have been debating the ethics of purchasing Hogwarts Legacy on account of her obvious transphobia. The editorial board at TheGamer has been open about its position on the game, publishing a long statement on the matter.
