If you’re lucky enough, you’ll get your hands on one of the best characters in the game, Tingyun. She’s a Fire elemental Foxian lady who’s the head rep of the Whistling Flames guild and a capable support character who can buff up your ally’s attacks. Hence, she’s a great fit for most strategies involving brute force to overwhelm the enemy.

8 Dan Heng

An isolated monk-like individual trying to escape his isolation, Dan follows the Path of The Hunt. His Wind elemental powers grant him the ability to cut down most of the big foes you’ll face during your playthrough. He will be your main DPS ally for most of the early-game campaign.

A level 80 Dan is capable of inflicting some heavy damage on one single foe with his skill since he’s able to nerf their speed rather well. Once he’s done lowering their SPD, he dives in with Cloud Piercer to deliver a devastating blow with his Ultimate.

7 Herta

As one of the brightest minds of the Honkai: Star Rail universe, Herta knows how to build durable and useful puppets capable of dishing out decent damage once they’re leveled up enough. Herta’s puppets can perform AoE attacks that can injure multiple foes.

She’s an Ice elemental follower of the Erudition path and pairs up quite well with Tingyun or Seele’s abilities. Although her attack damage stats aren’t that great without the right relics or Light Cones, Herta can dish out a barrage of follow-up attacks even when it’s not her turn.

6 Bronya

Heir to the Supreme Guardian of Belabog, Bronya is as capable as she is endearing, especially when it comes to facing her foes. She’s a Wind elemental who follows the Path of The Harmony. With that, she functions well as a supporting character who can net you and your allies some extra turns.

Her powers, in conjunction with Tingyun’s, provide the team with extra time for applying buffs or building up a massive counterattack. The Take By Surprise Ability lets her follow up any basic attack on an enemy weak to Wind-based characters. She’s also great at granting your allies SPD buffs as well.

5 Sampo

As conniving as Sampo is when you first meet him, he’s a surprisingly decent ally to have on the battlefield. Compared to other characters like Dan Heng, Sampo can inflict a lot more damage on a single enemy with both his basic attack and Ultimate.

Since he follows the path of Nihility, his destructive capabilities are on full display when you pit him up against any impressive foes. His attacks cause Sheer effect damage, and his Trace ability Defensive Position nets him 10 HP every time he uses his Ultimate.

His high DPS makes him a good option to pair up with other heavy hitters like Tingyun, especially if you’re looking to bulldoze the enemy’s forces.

4 Bailu

Bailu is not just a combatant but also a viable healer. She’s kind of tricky to play with, but her abilities are capable of challenging the odds, and they give you enough time to squeeze out a victory. Once per battle, she’s able to revive a fallen ally.

Since she’s a Lightning elemental, Bailu can deal some basic damage a lot better than other healing characters like Natasha can. Her Ultimate also serves to buff her healing capabilities mid-battle. She’s an excellent support character but needs the right kind of DPS big-hitters to round out a team.

3 Seele

Being the main driving force behind Wildfire’s success, this Underworld resident is the perfect asset to any team. Her abilities and damage-inflicting rushes are nothing to sneeze at. She’s a follower of The Hunt and deals Quantum damage that chips away at your foe’s health.

She can be a great support character or a buffed-up monster over the course of a battle. Seele can utilize her Ultimate ability to give herself 15 HP every time she uses it with the Fitting Phantasm Eidolon unlocked, and she’s also less likely to get targeted if her HP is under 50 percent with her Nightshade Trace ability.

2 Himeko

A main attacker with fairly viable follow-up attacks who’s capable of buffing up her own damage as the battle goes on. Himeko is the person responsible for restoring the Astral Express, and she’s also one of the main attacking forces of the Trailblazers. She's got one of the best Ultimates in the game.

Since she’s a Fire elemental, her AoE attacks deal effect damage as well. She’s also great at delivering additional follow-up damage and buffing up her damage output over time. Her Trace Technique Magma just amplifies her power when she’s up against an enemy afflicted with Burn. Trailblaze lets her Ultimate hit your foes more than once!

1 Welt

Honkai Star Rail Welt Splash and Menu

A man of mystery yet unbound creativity, and a savior to the planet Earth, Welt is a follower of the Nihility Path and is capable of dealing impactful Imaginary effect damage. His attacks and Ultimate ability serve to hinder the enemy’s advances and nerf their SPD.

A leveled-up Welt paired up with other DPS attackers that can slow down the enemy can potentially end up providing you a near-infinite amount of turns to devastate the enemy forces. He’s great at crowd control and inflicting DoT attacks.

Even though he seems rather strong, without a main DPS damage-dealing attacker on his team, he can’t win the battle just by himself. Characters like Dan Heng and Tingyun can effectively cover up for his lack of damage output.
