Ever since he was first tested in the closed beta of Honkai: Star Rail, Jing Yuan has been one of the most anticipated characters in the game. He was nerfed because of how broken the character was in the test, but he still stayed one of the strongest characters in the game on the official release.

Here's everything you'll need to ascend Jing Yuan and his Traces in Honkai: Star Rail if you're planning to get the character.

Jing Yuan is an Erudition character with Lightning as the combat type. Apart from having strong AoE damage, he also has an entity called the Lightning Lord who does his bidding occasionally. He can easily carry you through the hardest content if you build him properly.

Updated on February 29, 2024, by Sanyam Jain: While Jing Yuan might have gone down in the meta ranks with better character releases, there have been various new Light Cones and Relics that still make him good enough to beat the hardest content.

Best Relics And Planar Ornaments For Jing Yuan

Honkai Star Rail Jing Yuan Relic Screen

You can summon Jing Yuan quite early in the game since the pity system unlocks after a bit of story. On the other hand, Relics and Planar Ornaments are unlocked after progressing in the story for quite a bit. These items can be found in the Relics section of your character information screen.

Each Relic and Planar Ornament is part of a set, and you get a bonus ability if you use two or four pieces from the same set. Here are some of the best sets for Jing Yuan:

Type

Name

Reason For Synergy With Jing Yuan

The Ashblazing Grand Duke

This is the best in slot Relic set for Jing Yuan as it increases his follow-up attack DMG with the two-piece. You can also get a massive ATK boost whenever your Lightning Lord deals DMG.

Relics

Thief Of Shooting Meteor

While this might seem like an uncanny choice for Jing Yuan, it can be quite good because of the Lightning Lord. The Relic set gives you up to 32 percent Break Effect and regenerates some Energy on triggering Weakness Break.

If you build the stacks properly, Lightning Lord is great at shredding the enemy's weakness bar. Moreover, it's quite important to get your Ultimate as fast as possible on Jing Yuan, and this set helps with that.

Band Of Sizzling Thunder

This is a Lightning Relic set that increases the DMG of that combat type by ten percent and also gives you an ATK boost for one turn when you use your Skill. Both of these stats can be quite good for Jing Yuan.

On the other hand, you'll also be completely fine if you use two pieces of this set and two pieces of some other set like Thief of Shooting Meteor or Musketeer Of Wild Wheat.

Planar Ornaments

Space Sealing Station

This is one of the easiest Ornament sets to acquire for Jing Yuan since it's available in World Three itself. It gives you a 24 percent ATK boost as long as you have 120 SPD or higher, which is quite necessary for this character.

Talia: Kingdom Of Banditry

This Ornament set is perfect to use with the Thief of Shooting Meteor Relic since it also gives you a lot of Break Effect. However, you'll need to have up to 145 SPD on Jing Yuan for this, which is quite hard.

If you want to use this set, you'll be looking for SPD on both main and sub-stat for Relics and Ornaments wherever possible.

Inert Salsotto (BIS)

Found in World Six of Simulated Universe, Inert Salsotto can be considered the best in slot for Jing Yuan. It gives you an eight percent Crit Rate boost along with an increase to your Ultimate and follow-up DMG.

These are the two main damage sources for this character, which makes the set perfect for him.

The best way to farm Planar Ornaments for Jing Yuan is by unlocking World Six as fast as possible and farming a ton of Inert Salsotto set.

Jing Yuan Relic Stat Priority

Other than the set bonuses, it's also important to pay attention to each piece's main and sub-stats. These are the main source of stats on your character, and here's the priority for each gear:

Type

Main Stat Priority

Head

HP (guaranteed)

Hands

ATK (guaranteed)

Body

Crit DMG

Feet

SPD

Planar Sphere

Lightning DMG Bonus

Link Rope

ATK Percent

For the sub-stats, you will always be looking for some Crit Rate and a lot of Crit DMG. Jing Yuan gets around 24 percent Crit Rate from his Traces, which makes it a lesser priority. Other than those, you can also look for ATK Percent, SPD, and Break Effect. Ideally, you'd want to have around 130-140 SPD on him.

Best Light Cones For Jing Yuan

Honkai Star Rail Jing Yuan Before Dawn Light Cone

There are a bunch of Erudition Light Cones ready to be used on this beautifully designed character. You can't use the Light Cones of any other path since their special ability won't trigger if the path doesn't match the character's path. Here are the best Light Cones for Jing Yuan:

Before Dawn (BIS)

When it comes to the best in slot Light Cone, Jing Yuan's signature weapon takes the victory. As soon as you put this on your character, they'll get a massive 36 percent Crit DMG and 18 percent Skill and Ultimate DMG boost.

Furthermore, you get a state after using your Skill or Ultimate, which increases your next follow-up attack's DMG by 48 percent. This makes it one of the best Erudition Light Cones for most characters.

The Day The Cosmos Fell

Apart from Jing yuan's Basic Attack, you can trigger the passives of this Light Cone from all his other abilities. You can also get it to Superimposition Five quite easily through the MoC store.

The ATK and Crit DMG bonus makes it the best four-star Light Cone for him.

The Seriousness Of Breakfast

Jing Yuan performs best when you're fighting a horde of multiple enemies, which means that you'll constantly be defeating them. This Light Cone increases your base DMG by 24 percent at Superimposition five.

It also increases your ATK by eight percent every time you defeat an enemy. Since this is a free-to-play Light Cone, you can easily get it to Superimposition five and get all its buffs.

The Birth Of The Self

This Light Cone is based on increasing the damage of your follow-up attacks. It gives you a 24 percent DMG boost for these attacks by default, and another 24 percent if the enemy is 50 percent HP or below.

The Lightning Lord's attacks are considered as follow-up DMG, which makes this one of the best Cones for Jing Yuan.

Today Is Another Peaceful Day

Jing Yuan's Energy cost is 130, and this Light Cone increases your DMG by 0.20 percent for each Energy. It can only be obtained from Battle Pass, but a 26 percent DMG boost at Superimposition one is quite good.

Passkey

If you're new to the game and don't have any of the Light Cones mentioned above, Passkey can be a good one for Jing Yuan. It increases the Energy you regenerate upon using your Skill by 12 at Superimposition five.

Jing Yuan Traces Overview And Priority

Honkai Star Rail Jing Yuan Attacking Down

In the Traces section of Jing Yuan's character information, you'll see a total of eight main abilities including some actives and passives. Other than that, some nodes give you a stat boost like Crit Rate, DEF, and ATK. Here's what his main Traces do:

Trace Name

Type

Description

Glistening Light

Basic Attack

Deals a certain amount of Lightning DMG to a single enemy.

Rifting Zenith

Skill

Triggering this will deal some Lightning DMG to all the enemies on the field and increase the Lightning Lord's Hits Per Action by two for its next turn.

Lightbringer

Ultimate

Deals massive Lightning DMG to all enemies and increases the Lord's Hits Per Action by three for its next turn.

Prana Extirpated

Talent

If Jing Yuan is in the party, Lightning Lord will be summoned in battle with a base SPD of 60 and three Hits Per Action by default. Its hits are considered follow-up attacks.

The Hits Per Action can be increased to a maximum of ten, and this decides the number of hits done by the Lord when it takes its turn. When the Hits Per Action is increased, the Lord's SPD is also increased.

Spirit Invocation

Technique

The Lightning Lord's Hits Per Action are increased by three for the first turn in the next battle.

Savant Providence

Bonus Ability

Regenerates 15 Energy at the start of every battle.

Battalia Crush

Bonus Ability

If you have over six Hits Per Action for the Lord's next turn, its Crit DMG is increased by 25 percent. You can see the number of Hits Per Action you possess beside Jing Yuan's portrait at the bottom.

War Marshal

Bonus Ability

Using the Skill increases your Crit Rate by ten percent for two turns.

As you can see, all of Jing Yuan's Traces are important since they all feed into the Lightning Lord's overall DMG. Although, the level of these Traces doesn't increase the overall Hits Per Action you can get. Ideally, you'd want to upgrade your Talent first since that increases the overall DMG of the Lightning Lord.

This can be followed up by the Ultimate and then the Skill. You wouldn't want to use your Basic Attacks on Jing Yuan since it doesn't increase your Hits Per Action, but it's still recommended to upgrade it to level four.

Are Jing Yuan's Eidolons Worth It

Honkai Star Rail Jing Yuan Thinking With Bird On Shoulder

Jing Yuan is already a broken character at zero Eidolons, and you'll be able to clear most of the content quite easily without any of them. With that said, Jing Yuan's Eidolons still make him far stronger than he is without them. These Eidolons can give him the following buffs:

  • Enemies adjacent to the main target take an extra 25 percent DMG from the Lightning Lord.
  • After the Lightning Lord takes action, your Basic Attack, Skill, and Ultimate deal more DMG.
  • You regenerate Energy based on the Hits Per Action of the Lightning Lord.
  • Lightning Lord deals increased DMG based on the total Hits Per Action.

If you're planning to go for any character's Eidolons, Jing Yuan is your character because he's unstoppable with all six of his Eidolons and the signature weapon. But if you're a free-to-play or low-spending player, you can stay at zero Eidolons and fight everything just fine.
