Honkai: Star Rail - Best Builds And Light Cones For Tingyun
Tingyun is one of the best four-star support characters in Honkai: Star Rail. Here's how to get the most out of her with a solid build!

One of the main reasons you'd want to play a character is their personality in the story, and Sampo doesn't disappoint in that. He's also a four-star character, which makes him easy to acquire if you're lucky enough, and here's how you can build him.

Updated March 05, 2024, by Sanyam Jain: Sampo's position in the meta has been quite a roller coaster ever since the start of the game, but he's quite a phenomenal character to have at the moment as long as you have Black Swan. The article has been updated with synergistic Relics and Light Cones you can use on him.

Best Sampo Relics And Planar Ornaments

If you're just starting out in the game, you won't see a Relics screen in your character information section. This unlocks once you progress into the story a little. Relics are one of the most important parts of a character's kit during the late game, but you don't have to worry about them too much early on.

If you're below Trailblaze Level 40, it's recommended to upgrade multiple characters, Light Cones, and their Traces first. You can start farming Relics after level 40 since you're guaranteed to get at least one five-star from every run. Here are all the Relics and Planar Ornaments that can be great for Sampo:

Type

Name

Reason For Synergy With Sampo

Relics

Prisoner in Deep Confinement

This is the best in slot Relic set for Sampo as long as you're planning to use him as a DoT DPS. It increases your ATK while also letting you ignore the enemy's DEF based on the amount of DoT applied.

Thief Of Shooting Meteor

The four-piece of this Relic set gives you up to 32 percent Break Effect, which increases the damage dealt whenever you break an enemy's Toughness bar. Moreover, you will also regenerate a bit of energy on Weakness Break.

Break Effect is the best stat for Sampo because he's great at breaking an enemy's Toughness bar. Moreover, three-star and four-star pieces of this Relic set can easily be acquired in the early game through exploration and quests.

Eagle Of Twilight Line

Even though he's a Nihility character, Sampo can deal significant damage because of his multiple hits in both the Skill and Ultimate. This makes him viable as a main DPS with the Eagle of Twilight Line Relic Set.

It gives you a ten percent increased Wind DMG and advances your turn whenever you use your Ultimate. It's best to use this set only if your Sampo has his fourth Eidolon.

Planar Ornaments

Talia: Kingdom Of Banditry

Much like the Relic sets, you should always be looking for Break Effect on Sampo even in Planar Ornaments. This set gives you a 16 percent Break Effect, with another 20 percent if you have higher than 145 SPD.

Since you can have up to 68 percent Break Effect with the Thief Relic set and this Ornament set, you can easily focus your stats on SPD. With more SPD, you'll also be able to get more turns in battle.

Penacony, Land of the Dreams

Black Swan's release to Honkai: Star Rail also unlocked the ability to use Sampo as a support Wind Shear applicator. If you're planning to use these two in a team together, you'll benefit from this set quite a lot.

Space Sealing Station

This ornament set is great for beginners since it's easier to acquire (world 3 of Simulated Universe), and you can get a decent ATK percent boost from it. Though it might not be a great choice for Sampo during the late game.

Planar Ornaments can be farmed from worlds three of the Simulated Universe. You can spend some Trailblaze Power to get them after defeating bosses.

Sampo Relic Stat Priority

When it comes to the main stats for Relics and Planar Ornaments, you'll always have flat HP and ATK for the Head and Hands pieces respectively. Here's what you should look for when it comes to the other pieces:

Piece Type

Main Stat Priority

Body

Effect Hit Rate

Feet

SPD

Planar Sphere

Wind DMG Bonus

Link Rope

Break Effect

As for the sub-stats, you should be looking for the following: ATK Percent, Effect Hit Rate, Break Effect, and SPD. The best part about building a DoT-based character is that you don't need to build Crit on them. However, DoT might not be the best play style unless you have Kafka or Black Swan.

Best Light Cones For Sampo

Honkai Star Rail Eyes Of The Prey Light Cone

Each Light Cone in Honkai: Star Rail has its special ability, but these will only activate if your character's path matches the Light Cone path. This means that you can only use Nihility Light Cones with him, and here are the best ones:

In the Name Of The World

This is a five-star Light Cone that increases your DMG to debuffed enemies. Your Effect Hit Rate and ATK are also increased for the damage dealt by your Skill. Sampo's Wind Shear effect is considered a debuff, which makes this Cone great.

Even though it is a five-star, you can buy this Light Cone with 600 Starlight. If you wish enough and save your Starlight, you can get it.

Patience Is All You Need

Another five-star Light Cone, except you can only get this one when Kafka is featured. It increases your DMG and SPD whenever you attack the enemy, and you also have a chance of applying the Shock DoT on them.

Since you'd want to stack as many DoTs on the enemy as possible, this Light Cone serves quite well for Sampo.

It's Showtime

This is a F2P-friendly Light Cone that you can buy for free through the MoC store, and it gives you a whopping 30 percent DMG and 36 percent ATK bonus at Superimposition Five.

Sampo applies multiple debuffs in a single Skill or Ultimate, which makes it easy to keep the stacks of this Light Cone at maximum.

Eyes Of The Prey

This is Sampo's signature Light Cone, and it's quite simple. It gives you a straight Effect Hit Rate and DoT (damage over time) boost based on your Superimposition.

If you have both this and the Welt Light Cone on Superimposition one, it's recommended to use the five-star due to higher base stats and useful passive.

Fermata

Fermata is a free-to-play four-star Light Cone that can be acquired through different planet shops and the Forgotten Hall shop. You can get this Light Cone to Superimposition Five within a few months, which can make it even better than Eyes of the Prey.

This Light Cone gives you an increased Break Effect and the DMG you deal to the enemies affected by Wind Shear also increases. This increases both your normal damage and the DoT from Wind Shear.

Before The Tutorial Mission Starts

It's clear that Sampo's effectiveness entirely depends on him applying the Wind Shear effect on the enemies. Most of his damage comes from DoT and he can also reduce the damage he takes from the enemies affected by Wind Sheer.

However, it can be quite hard to apply this effect on a group of enemies in the late game due to their high Effect RES. The 40 percent Effect Hit Rate from this Light Cone can help you with that, even though you won't be able to gain Energy from it.

Sampo Traces Overview And Priority

Honkai Star Rail Sampo With Dagger In Hand-1

Sampo has a vivid set of Traces that make every part of his kit important. The Basic Attack for every character in Honkai: Star Rail does the same amount of damage on a certain level. Other than that, here's what his abilities do:

Ability

Description

Skill

Deals a certain amount of Wind DMG to the enemy you aimed the skill at. After that, deals the same amount of Wind DMG four more times to random enemies.

Ultimate

Deals multiple instances of Wind DMG to every enemy on the field and increases the DoT they take for the next two turns.

Technique

Throws a flashbang to blind nearby enemies for a bit. When you start combat with Blinded enemies, their actions are delayed.

Talent

Whenever Sampo attacks an enemy, he can afflict the Wind Shear effect on them, which can stack up to five times.

Other than these main abilities, you can also unlock some extra passives that can help Sampo in battle.

When it comes to Trace priorities, it's highly recommended to start with Sampo's Talent or Skill. Both of these are the main sources of damage output from this character. Once you've upgraded these two Traces, you can go for his Ultimate. Finally, his Basic Attack can be left at a low level unless you're using him as a DPS.

Sampo's Eidolons can be great if you get them, but they're not good enough to specifically go for them. He's a four-star character, which means that it can either be extremely easy to get his Eidolons quickly or nearly impossible.
