Sampo Koski is a reliable teammate. Never mind that your first meeting with him left you arrested in the Outlying Snow Plains. He's perfect for fighting against multiple enemies and is great for debuffing through his Wind Shear effect. He can be a constant on your team when equipped with the right relics and a good light cone.

Resources in Honkai: Star Rail aren't abundant, so you'll want to know which character to build and who else to build around them. Since he's both a main damage dealer and a sub-damage dealer, he can have different team variations.

8 Natasha

Natasha's Data Bank menu in Honkai: Star Rail.

You can never go wrong with an all-around healer on your team. Since Sampo isn't really known for having great amounts of defense, it's no surprise that he can be vulnerable to heavier-hitting enemies. Natasha and Sampo have great synergy in a team since Natasha can contribute to the team's longevity, while Sampo can dish off-field damage through his Wind Shears and on-field damage through his skill or ultimate.

It's also advantageous to have different element types since enemies often have different combat-type weaknesses. While there are some scary people who build Natasha for damage, her utility as a healer is her main selling point and is ultimately what will get your team through tougher crowds.

7 Gepard

Gepard (Data Bank) from Honkai: Star Rail

If you're not keen on bringing a healer and want to sustain your team through other means, Gepard is the best shielder in the game so far. He can provide every member of your team with a shield through his ultimate for three turns, which provides him ample time to regain his ultimate. But another great thing about Gepard is that he has a higher likelihood of being attacked by your enemies, which ultimately diverts attacks from your squishier teammates.

He also regains energy when attacked by said enemies, so it's a win-win situation for him and your team. He's very sturdy and can even revive himself once after getting taken down by an enemy. Sampo greatly benefits from the shielding and the damage diversion since he's not exactly a tank character.

6 Trailblazer - Fire Type

If you don't want to build Natasha, or you don't have Gepard yet, the Trailblazer is always a good addition to the team. Fire Type Trailblazer is notorious for being a strong damage dealer and a flexible support teammate. In this case, they can be utilized for their supportive qualities since their skill taunts enemies towards them and provides the entire team with some shielding. It might not be a thick shield, but they at least draw the enemies away from other characters through their taunt.

Shielding abilities aside, they're also capable of dishing out good damage numbers. While they're mostly single-target oriented until Magma Will has been stacked, it's still not negligible damage. Sampo can compensate for the Trailblazer's lack of consistent multi-target damage.

5 Asta

Asta (Data Bank) from Honkai: Star Rail

Asta is generally a must-build for bonus attack and additional speed buffs. Other than that, she can also shred shields alongside Sampo through her skill, which will hit enemies multiple times. If the enemy is vulnerable to Fire, she does a good job breaking the enemy's shield through her successive attacks—just like Sampo.

She also applies Burn to enemies, which makes them further vulnerable to fire damage. You can debuff your enemy by applying both Burn and Wind Shear for three turns from Asta and Sampo, respectively, even if they're not dealing with multiple enemies in this scenario.

4 Serval

Serval (Data Bank) from Honkai: Star Rail

If you're not dealing with just one boss, adding Serval to the team could be a shock-inducing experience (literally). She deals consistent multiple-target damage through her lightning attacks and can debuff enemies when placed under Shock for two turns. While these enemies become more vulnerable to her attacks, Sampo can also deal additional damage to multiple enemies through his skill.

With the two of them in one team, hoards of enemies can easily be cleared—especially if their shields are prone to taking damage against lightning or wind. Serval essentially disproves that lightning doesn't strike the same place twice since Shock deals additional lightning damage to the enemies affected by the status.

3 Tingyun

Tingyun (Data Bank) from Honkai: Star Rail

Tingyun might not be a fighter, but she's a buffer. She's a need to any team that wants additional attack, and at Eidolon Six, she'd be able to regenerate ten energy to her target ally. Overall, even if she doesn't fight, she makes all your damage dealers in the team so much stronger and ready for battle.

At Eidolon One, the ally she applied Benediction upon would also gain 20% speed for one turn. Generally, she could make Sampo so much stronger if you're utilizing him as your main damage dealer in the team. But even if he's not the one benefitting from this buff, they can both work well together in strengthening allies and debuffing enemies, respectively.

2 Welt

Honkai Star Rail Welt Basic Pose

Welt is a good co-support to Sampo, and many players have been putting them together so that enemies are severely debuffed. Bosses can be so severely weakened to the point that you can attack them multiple times without your team members being attacked by the said boss.

With Welt slowing enemies and making them miss turns and Sampo applying damage over time through Wind Shear, it's easy to see how the enemies—even a high-level Kafka, can be beaten before they can even hurt you.

1 Himeko

Honkai: Star Rail - Himeko in the preview character menu showing her abilities

Himeko might be a strong damage dealer in her own right, but she's known for her single-target damage. Sampo helps out with this by being able to target more than one enemy, but even if that wasn't the case, Himeko's talent benefits greatly from Sampo's break effects. Break effect increases the damage done by a Weakness Break, and sufficiently stacking it on him leaves enemies vulnerable to Himeko's follow-up attacks.

Her talent, Victory Rush, allows her to make one follow-up attack, applying fire damage to all of her enemies equal to 70 percent of her attack.
