Honkai: Star Rail's Sushang is an absolute powerhouse of a character, dealing large amounts of physical damage in rapid succession. She can take multiple moves during a turn and boosts her own speed when an enemy is broken on the battlefield. Although Sushang only deals physical damage, the path of the hunt ensures that whoever she targets receives the full force of that damage.

Her ultimate is just as amusing as it is strong, as Sushang summons what is basically a giant chicken to come and crush her enemies underfoot. She functions best as the main DPS on a team, though does need protection as her defense and health can be lacking.

A good team for Sushang has her as the main DPS, paired alongside a sub-DPS and two support characters.

6 Serval

Honkai Star Rail Serval Splash and Menu

Considering that Sushang can only deal damage to one enemy at a time, thanks to the path of the Hunt, consider adding someone who can deal AoE damage onto the team, like Serval. This will help to balance out your combat and keep you from getting stuck on which enemy to attack or becoming overwhelmed if more enemies are summoned to the battlefield.

Serval is on the path of Erudition, which allows her to attack groups of enemies at one time with her lightning damage rather than individual targets. Her lightning damage adds a much-needed variance to Sushang's team as well, considering that it gives you an additional way to try and break enemy shields.

Regardless, Serval likely won't patch or even outpace Sushang in damage, but that doesn't mean you shouldn't put effort towards increasing her damage, be it with her Light Cones or with Relics. Your Sub-DPS should still deal more damage than support characters, usually.

5 Natasha

Sushang may hit hard, but she doesn't have great health. Having a good healer on your team is a necessity, which means you can either pick from Bailu or Natasha. Considering how Bailu needs to be pulled into the gacha by sheer luck, however, Natasha is ultimately the better choice.

She can be picked up for free by just going through the main story on Jarilo-VI, so all you really have to do is play the game. Natasha walks the path of the Abundance and deals physical damage, though when she's paired with Sushang, it's best to try and boost Natasha's defense stat instead of her attack.

Let Sushang deal the damage and let Natasha back her and the rest of the team up in a support-based role.

4 Pela

Honkai Star Rail Pela Splash and Menu

Pela is a great support character because she not only debuffs your enemies by lowering their shields, but she deals a notable amount of ice damage at the same time. She won't deal as much damage as Sushang does, but dealing a notable amount of ice damage is a bonus perk with Pela.

Considering that ice is one of the more common weaknesses you will find, it's worth making Pela a regular occurrence, if not a permanent member, in your party. She works great on any team with a focus on high damage output, considering that she gives your team an easy in to deal out critical attacks more often. With Pela on your side, Sushang will completely dominate the field.

3 Bronya

If you manage to get your hands on Bronya, the best support character in the game, do not hesitate to level her up and make her a permanent or near-permanent addition to your team. She can dispel debuffs from party members and boost everyone's attacks.

Specifically boosting Sushang's attacks will make her an absolute powerhouse on the battlefield, and the rush you get from blazing through fight after fight probably won't end. For Bronya, it's worth trying to balance her attack and her defense because she can, at least, deal a notable amount of damage if she is equipped with the right relics and the right light cone.

2 Gepard

Honkai Star Rail Gepard Splash and Menu

Gepard is mainly a tank, taking punches as though they barely grazed him. His sheer presence tends to provoke your enemies into attacking him, it would seem (though it is, in part, thanks to his abilities). As a tank, he functions as both attack and support, dealing a notable amount of damage while also providing a shield for the other characters.

In fact, his ultimate ability does just that, granting a shield to everyone on the team when he activates it. With Sushang unable to take a lot of hits in a row without needing the healer to intervene, it's worth having a tank like Gepard on your team because, at the very least, it will direct attention away from Sushang.

An alive Sushang is a good Sushang, and Gepard can stand to take the hits (a lot).

1 Welt

Honkai Star Rail Welt Splash and Menu

Welt makes a great sub-DPS character, partly because he deals a notable amount of damage but also because walking the path of Nihility means that he can temporarily reduce your enemy's speed with his skill and incapacitate them with his ultimate. Considering that Sushang can take multiple turns in a single round, this means that she essentially gains free rein on the battlefield during this time.

With a Welt-Sushang combo, you can take enemies out before they can even react to what just happened. Plus, Welt's access to Imaginary damage means that you can break enemies who are weak to it, which is surprisingly often, especially for how few characters can actually deal Imaginary damage.

Of course, you have to be lucky enough to pull Welt in the gacha or make enough pulls on the Regular warp that you can just pick him out as compensation.
