For those of you who are concerned about getting your hands on every character Honkai: Star Rail and are worried about why you may not have access to the Preservation Trailblazer, also known as the Fire Trailblazer, worry not. The Preservation Trailblazer is an automatic subclass you can choose to equip or forgo after finishing the story on Jarilo-VI.

The Fire Trailblazer is, literally, a tank. You deal various levels of damage, depending on your collected Magma Will, with your standard attack and go on the defense, potentially causing enemies to target you (thereby forcing the collection of Magma Will).

When using the Preservation Trailblazer, your team should consist of a main DPS and two supports.

6 Arlan

Honkai Star Rail Arlan Splash Art and Menu

Arlan is one of the best lightning damage characters you can have for your main DPS (Damage Per Second). As a Destruction Path character, Arlan excels when he is able to confront his foes head-on.

This means that he's best helped by characters who can take most of the hits, like the Fire Trailblazer, and buff allies or debuff enemies.

His normal attack rushes a single target to deal lightning damage. His skill consumes part of his HP and deals an extremely high amount of lightning damage to a single enemy.

His ultimate also, shockingly, deals an even higher amount of lightning damage to a single enemy again but can also deal splash damage to any enemy next to your target.

Although you may be tempted to make the Trailblazer your strongest character, especially because they can deal some serious damage on the front lines, you should consider upping their defense while maxing out the attack of Main DPS characters like Arlan. However, you'll need to draw him from the gacha before you can actually use him in battle, like most characters in the game.

5 Tingyun

Tingyun is a great support character who walks the Harmony Path and deals Lightning damage. Although you don't meet her until the Astral Express docks at the Xianzhou Luofu for the "third" storyline, you can pull her early from the gacha.

As part of the Harmony Path, Tingyun focuses more on buffing and supporting her allies rather than dealing large amounts of lightning-based damage to her enemies.

After activating her skill, Tingyun can give a single ally Benediction, which increases their attack by up to 30% of Tingyun's current attack. On top of that, your chosen ally will also deal extra lightning damage for about three turns.

However, it's worth noting that only one ally can have this skill at a time, so Honkai: Star Rail forces you to parse out your skill points with Tingyun.

Her special ability is great, too, regenerating energy for your chosen ally and increasing their damage for three turns, similar to Benediction. Although you probably won't be looking to make the Fire Trailblazer your Main DPS, regenerating the Trailblazer's ability is a great asset to have, especially in the difficult boss fights later on.

4 Dan Heng

Yes, that's right, Dan Heng is one of the best characters to have on the Preservation Trailblazer's team. Despite getting him from the very beginning of the game, if you keep on top of Dan Heng's relics and leveling, he's a great asset as a Main DPS, even later on.

If you aren't familiar with him, though, Dan Heng deals wind damage and walks the Path of the Hunt. This means that he deals a large amount of single-target damage, and if you boost his speed high enough, he will regenerate his ultimate fairly quickly.

He's also one of the few characters you can easily get your hands on who deals wind damage, which is a fairly consistent weakness for numerous enemies to have.

3 Bronya

Honkai Star Rail Bronya Splash and Menu

If you manage to pull Bronya in the gacha, you should consider yourself to be very lucky as she's one of the best support characters in the game. Bronya walks the path of Harmony and deals wind damage, which you'll find will be incredibly useful to have on your team with the Fire Trailblazer. If they aren't weak to fire, there's a decent chance that they'll be weak to wind instead.

Regardless, because she is a Harmony character, Bronya shines the brightest when she's offering your team a buff. For the most part, all of her skills and abilities will greatly increase the attack of your group.

So, if you build up the Trailblazer's Magma Will high enough, that means the pulse released from their normal attack will deal a significant chunk of damage. Bronya's ultimate also increases your crit chance, which means you can pretty much wipe your enemies off their feet, even without the Trailblazer being your main DPS.

2 Pela

Honkai Star Rail Pela Splash and Menu

Pela is one of the best enemy debuffers you can pull from the gacha. She may seem small and generally unimpressive when you first roll her, but boosting Pela up to make her one of your main supports is worth it.

As a Nihility Path character, Pela thrives in debuffing enemies by lowering their defense with every attack she makes, even dealing an extra bit of ice damage to boot.

If she breaks an enemy's shield with her attacks or her ultimate, there's also a chance that Pela can freeze them. Being frozen bumps your enemies down in the attack order and ensures that you get a handful of extra, no-risk hits in.

When you're going up against enemies with easy-to-break shields but a lot of health, there's only so long you can tank the hits before you want just to start taking potshots and make the battle go faster.

1 Natasha

Honkai Star Rail Natasha Splash Art and Menu

Natasha is one of the few free characters you can get later on in the game. So long as you keep pushing through the story while you're on Jarilo-VI, you'll get her on your team, and she is one of the best characters to keep as a permanent fixture on your team, period.

Natasha is the easiest healer to gain access to in the game, and when things are looking dicey, and like you might lose the fight, Natasha can swoop in and keep everyone alive long enough to seek out victory. Just make sure you equip her with some health and defense-boosting items to keep her alive while she keeps everyone else alive.

With the Preservation Trailblazer playing as a tank, they're going to take a lot of hits, so it's important you keep an eye on their health and ensure that you always have a bit of action stamina so you can regularly keep your Trailblazer on their feet.
