The open world of Honkai: Star Rail is quite special since it doesn't let you roam freely on different planets. You aren't able to jump, dash, or fall down from the edges in the game, which means that you have to follow a specific path. Moreover, planets are divided into different sections that unlock through the story.

Each section has a certain number of chests that can be seen on the top right side when you're on the map, but this chest number doesn't include puzzles and formidable foes. Warp Trotter is one of the unique exploration features in the game.

Updated on June 20, 2023, by Sanyam Jain: When the Version 1.1 update was released in Honkai: Star Rail, a new type of Trotter was introduced that increased the rewards you can get if you're used to farming mobs on the map or if you need to fight some of them to get materials for a certain character.

How To Find Warp Trotters

Honkai Star Rail Warp Trotter On Map

Since you can get up to 60 Stellar Jades every time you defeat a Warp Trotter, they're quite rare and you can only fight them once in a certain area. When you're on the map screen, you can see the total number of chests in the area on the top left. If you click on this button, it'll show you the number of Warp Trotters in the area.

If you don't see any Trotters when you click on the button, it means that there are none in that particular section.

As soon as you find an area with a Warp Trotter that you haven't defeated, you can head over there and start searching every room. You'll eventually stumble upon an enemy with a black body with a golden outline around it, and it will have golden white parts at the top of its body. This is the Trotter you're looking for.

How To Defeat Warp Trotter

Honkai Star Rail Seele With Warp Trotter

When you get close to the Warp Trotter, it'll show all the combat types it's weak to at the top of your screen. This doesn't mean that the Warp Trotter is weak to all these types. It just means that at least one of the enemies that you'll be fighting when you start the battle will be weak to those elements.

Getting closer to the Trotter will instantly alert it, at which point it'll try its best to run away from you. Warp Trotters are quite fast, so it's nearly impossible to catch them once they start running unless they run into a wall or run back into you by mistake. It's important to choose the correct angle to approach it.

Alternatively, you can also use a character with a ranged attack or Welt's slow field to catch it easily.

Seele is also great for starting the battle with these slippery creatures since she can enter stealth mode.

Honkai Star Rail Warp Trotter Scared State

As soon as you start the battle with the Trotter, it'll enter a scared state where it'll just sit there and shiver for a few turns. You can delay this state by applying immobilizing effects like Freeze or Imprison to the Trotter. You'll also see a bunch of enemies around it based on where you are.

During this state, it's extremely important to break Warp Trotter's Toughness bar as soon as possible. You'll have to continuously hit it with the combat types it is weak to. If you successfully remove the Toughness, it'll enter a vulnerable state for quite a few turns. On the other hand, it'll start trying to escape if you fail.

Honkai Star Rail Warp Trotter Trying To Escape

If the Trotter gets another turn after it entered the scared state, it'll start trying to escape, which can be identified by the enemy putting its hands on its head. Once this is triggered, you won't be able to break its Toughness bar anymore. You simply have to keep attacking it until all its health is lost.

Finally, if the Trotter gets another turn after this state, it'll escape the battle and you'll fail to catch it. This is why it's extremely important to focus on the Trotter as soon as you enter the battle. The enemies around it are usually not that strong, and you can tank their damage with just one healer or shielder.

You'll still have to defeat the surrounding enemies to win the battle, but that's quite easy once you pick off the Trotter.

If you do fail to defeat the Trotter in time, you can teleport to any other section of the planet and go back to its location to find it again. There might also be times when you'll see the Warp Trotter around other enemies in the open world, and there'll be a golden ray of light connecting them together.

This means that you'll have to fight multiple waves in the battle. The number of waves is the same as the number of enemies in the open world, including the Trotter. Though you can decide which wave you want first by attacking a particular enemy. For example, if you attack the Warp Trotter, the wave with that enemy will be first.

If you're defeated during any of the waves during the battle, you might have to start all over again.

Other Warp Trotter Encounters

Honkai Star Rail Normal Warp Trotter Fight

Apart from the cute golden Warp Trotters that you can find a limited number of times while exploring different areas, there are others that you can randomly encounter as well. These random Trotters can be found in the Simulated Universe or when you fight enemies in the overworld, and here's what they do:

Simulated Universe Warp Trotters

The Worlds three to six of the Simulated Universe feature a total of 13 floors with guaranteed two Elite, one Boss, and three Respite floors. Other than that, the first floor you start on will always be Combat and you get to choose your next floor most of the time. You can encounter Warp Trotters on the Combat and Occurrence floors.

You don't have a 100 percent chance of encountering these enemies on every run. You'll be going through different events on the Occurrence floor, and there's only one that will have you fight three Warp Trotters at the same time. You'll need an Erudition or a really strong Hunt character if you want to defeat them.

For each Warp Trotter you defeat before they escape, you can get a Blessing at the end.

On the other hand, the Trotters on Combat Floors function roughly the same as the Golden Trotters. You can see them at a place on the floor and they'll try to run away when they're alerted. They can also escape if you don't start the battle in time. The only difference is that these Trotters have a special ability.

This ability can be seen on the floor below them, and there are three types:

  • Trotters with a green circle on the floor will heal all their team members every time they're damaged. You'll have to defeat the Trotter or deal a huge blow to its team if you want to win this fight.
  • If it has a Fire effect below, the Trotter will deal damage to all your characters every time it gets attacked. Certain damages like Follow-Up attacks, DoT, or Path Resonance don't trigger this ability.
  • Finally, the third type of Trotter will give all its allies a shield that negates all the damage dealt to an ally once. Even if your attack deals a million damage, this shield will completely negate it. AoE characters help out against this Trotter a lot.

Lost Trotter Encounters

With the Version 1.1 update, a new kind of Trotter was added to the game. Whenever you start a battle with any mob in the overworld apart from Calyxes, Stagnant Shadows, or Caverns of Chaos, there's a chance that a Lost Trotter will appear on the field. These enemies appear after the effect of your Technique takes place.

If you manage to defeat this Trotter before it escapes, you can get extra Credits and mob drops from that fight. This might not seem like much if you're fighting a few mobs, but it can make a significant difference if you're farming them every day.
