The much beloved second Herrscher of Reason, Welt Yang, has made a comeback in Honkai: Star Rail. If you're lucky and got him off of the beginner's banner as your first five-star, then you're probably wondering who he works best with. His ability to slow enemies and deal significant damage makes him a flexible teammate to have.

There are many teams you can build with him or around him, but this article focuses primarily on the characters he synergizes best within a support role. Most of these characters are obtainable without the gacha system, and a few need some extra pulls.

8 Asta

Asta (Data Bank) from Honkai: Star Rail

Asta is a harmony, fire-type support that can buff your team's speed for two turns. While the full potential of speed buffs is yet to be seen in the game, any main damage dealer that benefits greatly from speed, like Seele and Dan Heng, will find her a welcome addition to the team. Asta and Welt are ideal teammates for applying their respective buffs.

Welt can slow enemies for two turns, while Asta provides your team a speed buff for two turns. Overall, they're two supports that provide benefits to the team in different, yet complementary ways.

7 Tingyun

Tingyun (Data Bank) from Honkai: Star Rail

Tingyun, just like Asta, serves your team primarily through buffing your damage. There's no better way to enhance your team's abilities than by debuffing the enemy simultaneously, and that's exactly why Welt and Tingyun have positive synergy with each other. Timgyun's skill buffs your ally's attack by 25 percent, up to 15 percent of Tingyun's current attack.

For her own personal damage, her attack speed increases by 20 percent for one turn after using her skill. This makes her an even more ideal teammate with Welt, who slows enemies through his skill.

6 Gepard

Gepard (Data Bank) from Honkai: Star Rail

If you're worried about having strong, yet squishy allies, then you'll need a shielder in your team. If you've also gotten Gepard, you might as well throw him in your team so that everybody stays protected through his unbreakable Ice shield. If you need to play the long game against your enemies, Gepard and Welt go hand in hand.

While Gepard offers consistent protection, Welt can imprison enemies and slow their attacks. These two can compensate for your lack of damage output or can help sustain slow but steady damage from your main damage dealers safely.

5 Natasha

If you don't have a shielder in your team, Natasha is a free character you're able to attain as you progress through the story. As a Physical damage dealer on the path of Abundance, she heals her allies based on a certain percentage of her HP. She's definitely the best doctor you could ever ask for since her healing ability also increases when the ally she's healing is at 30 percent HP or lower.

Natasha can heal your otherwise vulnerable damage dealers, while Welt debuffs enemies for your damage-dealing party members to attack.

4 Trailblazer - Fire Type

Many Honkai: Star Rail players applaud Stelle and Caelus' damage-dealing abilities despite being the starter characters. Fire Type Trailblazer is a force to be reckoned with since they're tanky due to their self-heal, and they also can do good damage numbers depending on how you build them.

Trailblazer frees many teams from needing a shield or healer. Welt just adds value to the Trailblazer's team through the utility of his Talent, which delays your enemies' actions. This allows you to deal more damage and finish your enemies off earlier with the Trailblazer.

3 Serval

Serval (Data Bank) from Honkai: Star Rail

Serval and Welt are perfect against a hoard of enemies, since both excel at multiple-target damage. Serval is a Lightning damage dealer on the path of Erudition, so she specializes in targeting multiple enemies through both her Skill and Ultimate attacks.

Welt can help her out by dealing some single-target damage if needed, but he's more important in her team for helping her finish enemies off at a faster pace. Serval's attack is increased by 20 percent after defeating an enemy for two turns, and this is ideal if the enemies have the slow status on them — effectively making it easier for you to kill them while on an attack buff.

2 Dan Heng

Dan Heng (Data Bank) from Honkai: Star Rail

Dan Heng is a great damage dealer, and the best part is that you get him for free along with March 7th. He excels at single-target damage, and is effectively stronger against enemies who are affected by a slow status. His basic attack is increased by 40 percent on an enemy that is slowed.

Welt is particularly valuable for keeping enemies on a Slowed status. When Dan Heng crits, he also can reduce his target's speed by 12 percent, causing him to be stronger at the expense of his opponent.

1 Seele

Seele (Data Bank) from Honkai: Star Rail

Seele is a great Quantum-type damage dealer on the path of The Hunt. Her speed is increased for two turns through her skill, which is made even more optimal with Welt applying the slow status against enemies. When Seele defeats an enemy, she also gains an extra turn.

What that means for any monster who encounters Seele and Welt is that they're going to have to sit still and get beaten before they even have the chance to attack, with death being the only thing to liberate them from suffering.
