May's State of Play has just been announced by Sony, and Guerilla Games is taking the spotlight. This Thursday, Horizon Forbidden West will have a dedicated 20-minute showcase that will feature at least 14 minutes of in-game footage.

"This reveal has been a true team effort and we’re very excited to show you what we have in store," wrote game director Mathijs de Jonge over on the PlayStation Blog. "Whether you’ve been with us and Aloy since Horizon Zero Dawn or are only just getting to know this incredible world, we want to share this huge milestone with you and cannot wait to see your favorite moments and reactions."

We'll get an extended look at Horizon Forbidden West on May 27 at 2 PM PST (5 PM EST). Sony's pre-show, including a "uniquely crafted countdown" timer, starts at 9 AM PST (12 PM EST).

Mathijs didn't provide us with anything to go on for this 20-minute gameplay reveal, so we'll be going into this State of Play blind. We know that Horizon Forbidden West will once again bring Aloy into danger, this time in the wild frontier appropriately called the Forbidden West. A mysterious plague is killing tribespeople and wildlife indiscriminately. It’s up to Aloy and her technological acumen to save the world once again.

Although Thursday's Forbidden West footage will be shot on the PS5, the game has been confirmed for a PS4 release. After being delayed from its initial launch with the PS5, Sony Interactive Entertainment CEO Jim Ryan confirmed last February that Horizon Forbidden West is still on track to release in the latter half of 2021.

It seems doubtful that we’ll get a release date on Thursday, but you never know. Fingers crossed.
