PlayStation today revealed the Collector's and Digital Deluxe Editions of Horizon Forbidden West, showing off a variety of in-game exclusives and towering collectible statues. However, buried deep in the FAQs is mention that there won't be a pathway for players to upgrade their PS4 version to PS5.

As PlayStation fans are still struggling to find a PS5 in stock, many Horizon Forbidden West players will need to spring for the affordable, standard edition of the game on PS4. However, if they ever purchase a PS5, it sounds like they'll also need to purchase Horizon Forbidden West again. In order to secure a PS5 version of the game along with their PS4 version, they'll need to spring for a more expensive version of the game:

"If you want to have access to both the PS4 and PS5 versions of Horizon Forbidden West, please purchase the Digital Deluxe, Collector's, or Regalla Editions," PlayStation said. "Dual entitlement does not apply to the Standard and Special Editions."

In other words, you'll need to drop at least $80 to secure a copy on both PS4 or PS5. Considering so many other games are allowing you free upgrades – or at least the option to pay $10 for a new-gen update – fans aren't too happy about the announcement. You'll still be able to play your PS4 copy on PS5 – thanks to backward compatibility – but you'll be missing out on all the enhancements made in the PS5 version.

Here's hoping something changes in the months leading up to launch. If not, be prepared to spend a good chunk of change on Horizon Forbidden West.
